yesss i love this song. & i think i voted for it
― teledyldonix, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:59 (fourteen years ago)
moments like when i learn about the loituma thing are moments when i am suffused with love for our globalised world
It's a pretty funny story... I think the original meme was created by someone in Russia, and the song sample came from an obscure album that was released in the 1990s (the band itself is pretty obscure too, even in Finland). There was a news story in the local paper that Loituma were totally perplexed why all of sudden lots of people from different parts of the world were ordering the CD from their website, until they found out about the meme.

this is dope
― ciderpress, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:00 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, never heard of Tuccillo before, but I'm really digging this tune.
― Tuomas, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:02 (fourteen years ago)
Because of Matt DC, this track will forever be associated Croatian beach parties for me. Despite the fact, obviously, I've never been to there.
― MikoMcha, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:04 (fourteen years ago)
So great when a track you've championed places in these things. <3 Disco En Paradiso. I could listen to that chugging bassline all day.
― Matt DC, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:05 (fourteen years ago)
I wouldn't have known about this track if it weren't for the Ilx thread
― Dan S, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:09 (fourteen years ago)
i had semi-forgotten it until i heard it on the spotify playlist. didn't it appear elsewhere on ilx before it had its own thread?

YES!
i just finished reviewed the new talabot album, which is the first great album of 2012.
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:15 (fourteen years ago)
Talabot + Glasser = serious ILXbait. Don't think I've heard this one before though.
― Angrrau Birds (seandalai), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:15 (fourteen years ago)
I put the Tuccillo on Summer Jamz, then Deej started a thread about it.
Love Families as well, liking this stretch a lot. Tenner on Todd Terje to come next, for the hattrick.
― Matt DC, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:16 (fourteen years ago)
:D
Awesome list so far.
― MikoMcha, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:17 (fourteen years ago)
That song will light up all my dark days, so breezy. Endorphin-machine.
― future debts collector (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:18 (fourteen years ago)
Easy now - some great choices so far. Think I chose different GGD (Adult Goth or was it Chinese High?) and Joy Formidable (A Heavy Abacus) for my poll, but I'm enjoying what we got here. Checking out the things I never heard and maybe summarise later.

Talabot kinda reminiscent of Glass Jar tbh

WE ALWAYS FIND OUR WAY~~~~~
the ascending then descending synth riff at the two-minute mark <3
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:21 (fourteen years ago)
^yeah that's exactly what reminds me of GGD
― uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:22 (fourteen years ago)
I like "Families" a lot, but I think "Releaserpm" by Win Win and Lizzi Bougatsos hit the same chord with a better song. Nobody listened to my (albeit quiet) hype. :(
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:22 (fourteen years ago)
^bcz I kept think the word "sperm" was in the title
― uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:24 (fourteen years ago)
lol
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:25 (fourteen years ago)
i like "releaserpm" too but it's the hands-in-the-air dancefloor-friendliness of "families" that pushes it over the top for me
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:25 (fourteen years ago)
lex, is Families on the Talabot album?
― rob, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:27 (fourteen years ago)
no, but the album is SO AMAZING that you don't even miss it

this song is pretty good
― teledyldonix, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:34 (fourteen years ago)
ehh i like most of the other tracks on that record more
― ciderpress, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:36 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, I feel like that is pretty much the worst song on the album.
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:37 (fourteen years ago)
I love it. One of the few occasions when an overblown Alex Da Kid production seems entirely appropriate.
― Mohombi Khush Hua (ShariVari), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:38 (fourteen years ago)
don't get this at all
― Angrrau Birds (seandalai), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:38 (fourteen years ago)
yeah, this is my fav alex da kid-produced song, but i still like many of the others on the album better. if "ass on the floor" didn't place last year (@ 77) i wonder how well it would have done this year. much higher i would guess?
― teledyldonix, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:38 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, i'd have voted for Ass On The Floor ahead of this, given the option, tbh.
― Mohombi Khush Hua (ShariVari), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:39 (fourteen years ago)
It's a perfect way to end the LP (only it doesn't of course)
― Jeff W, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:39 (fourteen years ago)
erm Ass on the Floor was #77 last year - the best song. how does the worst song on the album come at #64 the following year?
― danzig, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:40 (fourteen years ago)
album had been out a month when the EoY rolled out last year
― uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:41 (fourteen years ago)
i absolutely love it "coming home" - it's pretty much the perfect close to the album, which provides the perfect context for its corniness. it kind of had to be that corny. i love diddy's verses! that "i hear _____, i hate/love that song" trick that starts each song is so effective - because he follows up each by telling us why he hates/loves it, and it's not some bs appeal to objectivity but exactly how it relates to his life
"i hear tears of a clown, i hate this song - i always feel like they're talking to me when it comes on""a house is not a home, i hate this song - is a house really a home when your loved ones are gone?""ain't no stopping us now, i LOVE that song - whenever it comes on it makes me feel strong"

i do like those lines
― teledyldonix, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:42 (fourteen years ago)
my only vote to place so far is ICP, but i definitely approve of the Tuccillo, which i for some reason forgot about around voting time. looking forward to hearing the 3BallMTY, as i really dig some of the guarachero stuff that i've heard. here's a short doc on the pointy boots, btw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEiMA3QtYWc
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Monday, 23 January 2012 18:43 (fourteen years ago)
the worst song on the album is "yesterday" ffs
i didn't vote for it (i forgot it was a single this year) and it's neither the best nor the most representative song on the album but it's SO crucial to how LTTP works, i can't imagine dismissing it - if you don't love "coming home" you perhaps don't quite get LTTP imo
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:43 (fourteen years ago)
The drums + piano are too punchy on this track.
― I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:43 (fourteen years ago)
damnit, meant to post that as just a link so as too not clog up the thread ;_;

wtf i like 'yesterday'...

rmde, tell me more lex about how I'm supposed to appreciate albums the CORRECT way
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:44 (fourteen years ago)
Every one of those songs >>>>>>> this one
xp - though I haven't listened to the LTTP album so lex's caveat applies
― Angrrau Birds (seandalai), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:44 (fourteen years ago)
like, it's a triumphant homecoming (figurative if not literal) after the high drama & emotion of what's preceded it, it HAS to be overblown and corny and anthemic and redemptive, it couldn't be any other way!
― tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:44 (fourteen years ago)
"Coming Home" scored fewer points, please note ("Ass" got 222 and more votes). The spread of votes seems to be much wider this year. None of the charting tracks so far would have made the top 77 last year!
Anyway, no way is it the worst song on the album. Sounded great on rotation on the radio this year too.
― Jeff W, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:45 (fourteen years ago)
they played "Coming Home" to DEATH on pop radio, I basically can't hear it without thinking about my wife giving me a ride to work and how much we'd both rather just stay home
