oh wow that 3ball mty track is amazing - last year i found some terrific mp3s by this producer dude called erick rincón called things like "loituma (3ball experimented)" and "manos arriba" but i guess i didn't follow up enough - it looks like the same guy is the producer of that song

i need more music like this in my life. where the hell were yall talking about it on ilm last year and why wasn't i told?

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:34 (fourteen years ago)

Barbara Panther = the sort of thing I'd really enjoy if someone stuck it on in the outloud room, but will never ever energise my enthusiasm enough for me to put it on of my own volition.

I'm not sure what to make of 3BALLMTY. Some of it is just crazily cheesy, but other bits I do like, and it's kind of... charming, I guess? Also, what is with the shoes?

emil.y, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:38 (fourteen years ago)

says the fader at http://www.thefader.com/2011/12/09/3ball-mty-ritmo-alterado-mp3/ -

3Ball MTY is teenaged tribal guarachero (indigenous Mexican and African sounds mixed with cumbia basslines) prodigy Erick Rincón and his two best-buddies, Sheeqo Beat and DJ Otto. Guarachero’s bananas fast but slow-feeling sound and its young wizards have grown up quickly, spreading from early 2000s parties in Mexico City to northern Mexico’s Monterrey and then upward still—Rincon says there are now better tribal events in the US than in Mexico, the biggest among them in Dallas. Yesterday, the group appeared on Univision’s popular chat/variety program El Gordo y La Flaca. They ate cotton candy and outfitted El Gordo in the tribal scene’s signature pointy cowboy boots, this pair something like curled skate skis made from leather and plastic. The visit comes on the heels of 3Ball MTY’s major label debut, Intentalo, released this Tuesday. Download the souped-up version of DJ Otto’s “Ritmo Alterado” that appears on the album below, and preview the entire album here.

got the album on on spotify, it's fun

call all destroyer, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:41 (fourteen years ago)

Young wizards eating cotton candy in skate skis = I'm liking this more and more.

emil.y, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:41 (fourteen years ago)

i'm d/lding the album right now

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:42 (fourteen years ago)

The synth hook on the 3BallMTY track is awesome, but the male vocalist sounds pretty generic (though of course I have no idea what he's saying), and the chorus sung by the woman feels like it belongs to a different, slower and less manic tune (nice chorus anyway).

Tuomas, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:43 (fourteen years ago)

invisible conga people was in my top 5. people who are hearing them for the first time should check out the rest of their discography (which is like four songs all equally good)

flopson, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:44 (fourteen years ago)

i love those shoes

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:45 (fourteen years ago)

LOL at "Loituma (3ball Experimented)"... The vocal actually comes from a tune by a Finnish folk band called Loituma, it became some kind of an Internet meme a few years ago when someone attached it to a gif of an anime girl spinning a leek. There were bunch of those "techno remixes" you get with every meme around too, but this is by far the best remix I've heard.

Tuomas, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:46 (fourteen years ago)

This is the original meme, I think:

Cosigning the 3BallMTY appreciation, this is great.

Matt DC, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:48 (fourteen years ago)

That's probably my favourite track that's been posted on this thread (xpost to Tuomas)

_Rudipherous_ has been talking about tribal guarachero for a little over a year. so, read his posts i guess?

flopson, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:51 (fourteen years ago)

And speaking of Finnish music, those pointy cowboy shoes look like they borrowed the idea from Leningrad Cowboys, who've been wearing similar ones for 20+ years.

Tuomas, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:52 (fourteen years ago)

I'm completely out of the loop (as in, the only song thus far I heard before today was the Pistol Annies), but I've now played the 3BallMTY three times. I guess I should listen to some of the Spanish language stations in town more often - I'm sure this style of music is all over the place.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:52 (fourteen years ago)

i would prob hate it if i could understand them but i can't so it's all good

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:57 (fourteen years ago)

Did not vote for this, but I thoroughly approve.

MikoMcha, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:58 (fourteen years ago)

it's the Matt DC on a boat theme tune!

Angrrau Birds (seandalai), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:58 (fourteen years ago)

yesss i love this song. & i think i voted for it

teledyldonix, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:59 (fourteen years ago)

moments like when i learn about the loituma thing are moments when i am suffused with love for our globalised world

It's a pretty funny story... I think the original meme was created by someone in Russia, and the song sample came from an obscure album that was released in the 1990s (the band itself is pretty obscure too, even in Finland). There was a news story in the local paper that Loituma were totally perplexed why all of sudden lots of people from different parts of the world were ordering the CD from their website, until they found out about the meme.

Tuomas, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:59 (fourteen years ago)

this is dope

ciderpress, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:00 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, never heard of Tuccillo before, but I'm really digging this tune.

Tuomas, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:02 (fourteen years ago)

Because of Matt DC, this track will forever be associated Croatian beach parties for me. Despite the fact, obviously, I've never been to there.

MikoMcha, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:04 (fourteen years ago)

So great when a track you've championed places in these things. <3 Disco En Paradiso. I could listen to that chugging bassline all day.

Matt DC, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:05 (fourteen years ago)

I wouldn't have known about this track if it weren't for the Ilx thread

Dan S, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:09 (fourteen years ago)

i had semi-forgotten it until i heard it on the spotify playlist. didn't it appear elsewhere on ilx before it had its own thread?

future debts collector (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:15 (fourteen years ago)

YES!

i just finished reviewed the new talabot album, which is the first great album of 2012.

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:15 (fourteen years ago)

Talabot + Glasser = serious ILXbait. Don't think I've heard this one before though.

Angrrau Birds (seandalai), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:15 (fourteen years ago)

I put the Tuccillo on Summer Jamz, then Deej started a thread about it.

Love Families as well, liking this stretch a lot. Tenner on Todd Terje to come next, for the hattrick.

Matt DC, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:16 (fourteen years ago)

:D

Awesome list so far.

MikoMcha, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:17 (fourteen years ago)

That song will light up all my dark days, so breezy. Endorphin-machine.

future debts collector (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:18 (fourteen years ago)

Easy now - some great choices so far. Think I chose different GGD (Adult Goth or was it Chinese High?) and Joy Formidable (A Heavy Abacus) for my poll, but I'm enjoying what we got here. Checking out the things I never heard and maybe summarise later.

I want your nose, your shoes and your unicycle (dog latin), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:19 (fourteen years ago)

Talabot kinda reminiscent of Glass Jar tbh

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

WE ALWAYS FIND OUR WAY~~~~~

the ascending then descending synth riff at the two-minute mark <3

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

^yeah that's exactly what reminds me of GGD

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 23 January 2012 18:22 (fourteen years ago)

I like "Families" a lot, but I think "Releaserpm" by Win Win and Lizzi Bougatsos hit the same chord with a better song. Nobody listened to my (albeit quiet) hype. :(

Johnny Fever, Monday, 23 January 2012 18:22 (fourteen years ago)

^bcz I kept think the word "sperm" was in the title
