call all destroyer, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:07 (fourteen years ago)

to that end i am going to press pause on the next song that came up on spotify when this one finished

call all destroyer, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:07 (fourteen years ago)

vocals are fine; i love how the song backs up into a killer hook. I def caught myself singing "The ghost town, the ghost town" (or whatever she is singing) after the first time I heard it

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:08 (fourteen years ago)

Her voice really reminds me of Ari Up from the Slits.

Derartu Cthulhu (NickB), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:08 (fourteen years ago)

Matthew Herbert did all the production on the album. She was just the voice on top (I don't know how much she had to do with the writing in the end).

Johnny Fever, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:08 (fourteen years ago)

also: sole ICP voter = Justin Chun

xp Ari Up comparison is interesting; I dont totally hear it, but Slits are def one of my favorite bands so

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:09 (fourteen years ago)

I was expecting to listen to about five minutes of that Mogwai track, but then I found I couldn't turn it off.

This Invisible Conga People song is making me feel like I ingested too much NyQuil. In a good way.

!Alicia!, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:10 (fourteen years ago)

this is a cool list so far

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:12 (fourteen years ago)

I'd never heard of Barbara Panther. It's alright. Was going to say that the production is pretty great, but then if Matthew Herbert did it, kind of makes sense.

MikoMcha, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:14 (fourteen years ago)

when did the voting for this happen? assuming the album voting happened too? i totally missed it somehow. wouldn't have voted on singles anyways but would have liked to vote on albums.

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:15 (fourteen years ago)

It all happened over the first two weeks or so of January.

Matt DC, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:15 (fourteen years ago)

Nominations began on the Sandbox before xmas, and then voting spanned the two previous weeks.

THE 2011 ILM SUPER-MEGA YEAR-END ALBUMS 'N' TRACKS POLL™ Voting Thread (Voting ends TONIGHT!)

Derartu Cthulhu (NickB), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:16 (fourteen years ago)

I voted for both ICP tracks hoping one would make it

Dan S, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:17 (fourteen years ago)

the voting thread has been at or near the top of new answers for the past fortnight.

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:17 (fourteen years ago)

For the people who missed out on voting: What should/could we have done to publicise it better? The voting thread got traffic every day so it was always on SNA.

Angrrau Birds (seandalai), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:17 (fourteen years ago)

shelled out money for stet to put a banner at the top of the site

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:18 (fourteen years ago)

You could have projected the thread title onto the side of the Empire State Building in really big type.

Matt DC, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:19 (fourteen years ago)

it's not like this is an unexpected time of year for this to happen

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:19 (fourteen years ago)

Can't remember if i voted for Moonlightpeople, did vote for the album though.

Same as Jonny Fever, I hadn't heard the album until Tuomas started repping for it on the nominations thread and fell for it instantly.

Kitchen Person, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:20 (fourteen years ago)

Maybe you could have got an endorsement from 50 Cent or something?

Angrrau Birds (seandalai), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:21 (fourteen years ago)

..if the world doesn't end

uncle acid and the absquatulators (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:22 (fourteen years ago)

could've put Lana Del Rey in the thread title somewhere

J0rdan S., Monday, 23 January 2012 17:22 (fourteen years ago)

3 BALL & MTY

J0rdan S., Monday, 23 January 2012 17:25 (fourteen years ago)

lol thats the first thing i thought of too

ciderpress, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:25 (fourteen years ago)

Genuinely never heard of that last one.

Matt DC, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:26 (fourteen years ago)

Matthew Herbert did all the production on the album. She was just the voice on top (I don't know how much she had to do with the writing in the end).

I think it's unfair to describe her as "just the voice on top". The album credits her as co-producer on all the tunes, and AFAIK most/all the material on it already existed in demo form before Herbert was attached to the project.

Tuomas, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:26 (fourteen years ago)

ha, i remember this shit -- this song is kinda dope but all the dudes are such clowns

J0rdan S., Monday, 23 January 2012 17:26 (fourteen years ago)

think this got a high score on the jukebox? not sure how else i would've caught it

J0rdan S., Monday, 23 January 2012 17:26 (fourteen years ago)

The album credits her as co-producer on all the tunes, and AFAIK most/all the material on it already existed in demo form before Herbert was attached to the project.

See? I'm a total latecomer. Don't own the physical album, so I've not looked at the credits and I never heard the pre-Herbert demos. Pardon me ignorance.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:27 (fourteen years ago)

Is this some sort of Mexican DJ boyband?

Angrrau Birds (seandalai), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:28 (fourteen years ago)

I'm enjoying this 3BALLMTY song quite a bit.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:28 (fourteen years ago)

Anyway, nice to see "Moonlightpeople" make it this time (I nominated it last year too, since it first came out on a 2010 digital EP), though IMO "Unchained" is the true best song on the BP album (and somehow I forgot to nominate that one). If you remain sceptical about Panther, at least check out that tune, it kicks like a mule.

(several x-posts)

Tuomas, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:30 (fourteen years ago)

Genuinely baffled by that last one.

The video is fun though.

MikoMcha, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:32 (fourteen years ago)

oh wow that 3ball mty track is amazing - last year i found some terrific mp3s by this producer dude called erick rincón called things like "loituma (3ball experimented)" and "manos arriba" but i guess i didn't follow up enough - it looks like the same guy is the producer of that song

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:32 (fourteen years ago)

this one! http://soundcloud.com/erick-rincon/loituma-3ball-experimented

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:33 (fourteen years ago)

i need more music like this in my life. where the hell were yall talking about it on ilm last year and why wasn't i told?

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:34 (fourteen years ago)

Barbara Panther = the sort of thing I'd really enjoy if someone stuck it on in the outloud room, but will never ever energise my enthusiasm enough for me to put it on of my own volition.

I'm not sure what to make of 3BALLMTY. Some of it is just crazily cheesy, but other bits I do like, and it's kind of... charming, I guess? Also, what is with the shoes?

emil.y, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:38 (fourteen years ago)

says the fader at http://www.thefader.com/2011/12/09/3ball-mty-ritmo-alterado-mp3/ -

3Ball MTY is teenaged tribal guarachero (indigenous Mexican and African sounds mixed with cumbia basslines) prodigy Erick Rincón and his two best-buddies, Sheeqo Beat and DJ Otto. Guarachero’s bananas fast but slow-feeling sound and its young wizards have grown up quickly, spreading from early 2000s parties in Mexico City to northern Mexico’s Monterrey and then upward still—Rincon says there are now better tribal events in the US than in Mexico, the biggest among them in Dallas. Yesterday, the group appeared on Univision’s popular chat/variety program El Gordo y La Flaca. They ate cotton candy and outfitted El Gordo in the tribal scene’s signature pointy cowboy boots, this pair something like curled skate skis made from leather and plastic. The visit comes on the heels of 3Ball MTY’s major label debut, Intentalo, released this Tuesday. Download the souped-up version of DJ Otto’s “Ritmo Alterado” that appears on the album below, and preview the entire album here.

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:40 (fourteen years ago)

got the album on on spotify, it's fun

call all destroyer, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:41 (fourteen years ago)

Young wizards eating cotton candy in skate skis = I'm liking this more and more.

emil.y, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:41 (fourteen years ago)

i'm d/lding the album right now

tinie tempurah (lex pretend), Monday, 23 January 2012 17:42 (fourteen years ago)

The synth hook on the 3BallMTY track is awesome, but the male vocalist sounds pretty generic (though of course I have no idea what he's saying), and the chorus sung by the woman feels like it belongs to a different, slower and less manic tune (nice chorus anyway).

Tuomas, Monday, 23 January 2012 17:43 (fourteen years ago)

invisible conga people was in my top 5. people who are hearing them for the first time should check out the rest of their discography (which is like four songs all equally good)
