Not sure why I never clued that "Organ Mix" would be the key to this problem.

Try DJ Hasan's 'Organ Sessions vol. 1' for recent stuff:

So, consensus is that this and stuff like it is Bassline (a la T2 & Jodie) and Organ Mixes are a subset of this?
― Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Saturday, 21 January 2012 22:39 (twelve years ago) link
Yeah, basically Bassline has a faultline running through it between the Organ stuff (very housey post "Push The Feeling On" / "Show Me Love" vibe) and the harder stuff which is uglier-sound and more syncopated and post-grime. And then 2-step revivalism which mediates between the two somewhat while also being different again.
One of the things I love about Royal-T's "Cool Down" is the way it seems to touch on all of these things simultaneously but with such an air of unassuming ease.

This is the first time I've ever heard this song and I immediately wanted to mix it into "Big Love (Dronez Dub)"

I heard this song on a mixtape Grimes curated and wanted to know where I can find more music that sounds like it. I had know idea it was an ILM cult favorite!

bummed to have been missing out for the past 3 months
Probably my proudest achievement as a music critic in 2012 has been to be the first person to my knowledge to have written anything anywhere in an actual publication about capital-O Organ.

idk what to really say to this thread tbh, it's bizarre. maybe kinda fun too but.... mostly bizarre.
its merits are valid and up for discussion by all means but it has to be stressed "organ" isnt really a codified doctrine like dubstep or whatever, it's a liminal, near-subconscious shade of the yorkshire sprachraum that bassline draws from, ebbs and flows in tandem with, coalesces itself from and then dissolves back into, since its inception. cf h20 and platnum's 'what's it gonna be' from 2008 for instance
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jd_4OrFH3EU
i guess if there's a story to tell now it's about how fully this has all evolved to become integrated with more general stuff like electro, jackin, 4x4, fidget where it carries an equal weight and influence; kind of a more commercial and populist version of what dj q's been doing with ukg, although then he also includes the likes of nick hannam, paul sirrell, hannah wants, billy kenny....

I think this is precisely what is interesting about this stuff, its status as a not-quite-genre.
― Tim F, Thursday, 3 May 2012 11:47 (twelve years ago) link
absolutely, and i know you know that but do they?
i mean not that they HAVE to, there's nothing wrong per se with people waving a random track from 2009 around, like whatever, but then when people start deploying it with a capital O and it becomes sarge saying miguel's 'all' is organ it's a bit uhm...

not sure why you feel the need to come at the discussion from this direction, r|t|c. i'm not claiming to be anything but a novice wr2 this uncodified doctrine, about which i'm only tangentially interested, though i'm sure it's helpful to be told that "it's a liminal, near-subconscious shade of the yorkshire sprachraum that bassline draws from, ebbs and flows in tandem with, coalesces itself from and then dissolves back into." poetry is surely a tide that elevates all boats. my interest here is based primarily on the fact that i love a specific song, though it turns that i also like a couple of the dj hasan tubes on the channel tim linked three months back. looking forward to the mixtapes, though i haven't heard them yet.

― johnny crunch, Thursday, 3 May 2012 14:19 (twelve years ago) link
eh contendo you can rest easy in your splendid isolation, i havent once denied anyone their right to enjoy this song. what i'm talking about pertains to the dissemination of organ as a "thing" leading off from this track, which is a discussion you've not involved yourself in and therefore my reply was not addressed to you or people in your position.
as for the poetry line, wind your fucking neck in.

this must surely be the best site on the whole internet. what a world! i adore the suggestion that each of these tracks can be precisely tagged "jakstep" or "warper" or "funky electro" as if there's ANY APPARENT DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER
i give it all a thumbs up so far though. tim dya fancy having a rummage and we'll have a little natter on it next week yeah

well, you led off with a bit of instructional advice to me, so the fact that i took the subsequent history less as having something to do with my posting itt wasn't a huge leap on my part. i did miss the more pointed sarge dis, though, so neck wound.

earlier i was wondering if i could find a better "one of those days" mp3 than my semi-shitty-quality one that i'd been playing. i then found this and impulse-purchased the entire seany mac oeuvre in 320 kbps (or at least what is available thru that site). of course "one of those days" is pretty unique in its gloriousness (compared to like, 99% of all music ever recorded) but the rest is actually quite listenable too -- "midnight love" is my fav non-"one of those days" one. (just fyi, the mp3 that they are selling as "damaged" is actually also "everything", but mislabeled.)
