Todd Terje: "Snooze 4 Love" (masterpiece alert)

hey got a question for digital DJs out there (guess this thread is as good as any) ... is Juno Download always way cheaper than Beatport?? "It's the Arps" is like $10 on Beatport for the full EP on 320 MP3s and only $4.50 on Juno. Just curious if that is typical.

I was surprised by that as well.

I'm usually a vinyl guy but have been dabbling in Traktor for the last year or so (and they give you a free gift certificate at Beatport to start you off so that's where I've been going for dance music MP3s)

the popularity of beatport has always baffled me, besides the traktor gift certificate are there does it have any other selling pts?

Inspector Norse on nonstop repeat for the past week, basically

it's better than Snooze 4 Love imo. the big buildup-release part is so euphoric.

Also think Inspector Norse is better than Snooze 4 Love, though my fav bit is right after the buildup release, at 4.07 where the filter closes

the first seconds of inspector norse always bring a smile to my face. can't remember the last time a song did that to me

Don't get me wrong, I love Inspector Norse and find it really jubilant, but it's not too far away from my personal twee border--a little too close to goofy. Whereas Snooze 4 Love is more restrained and austere, and feels like it has more depth.

I'm not sure I've got the hang of these tracks yet. They're quite fun, but I think I'd need to hear them in a dancefloor situation to truly appreciate them.

Yeah, I love Inspector Norse, especially that weird moment about 3:35 or where he goes to another chord, the filters kick in and it goes to a whole nother level, like the camera goes shift-tilt ... or that moment in the Capsule "World of Fantasy" video where they take off. It's a great track - but Snooze 4 Love has something kind of sublime that raises it above almost everything else I've heard in the past year.

xpost: I think you have to see it like an italo track (which it basically is). that the greatness lies in the fun-ness and "goofiness" of it.

Good point re: Italo, and I feel that--the bouncy octave-jumping synth bass in particular. I suppose my Italo preferences run more to the super-moody, "night"-themed, desperation-and-longing stuff more than the overtly goofy stuff... Still an awesome track (and the B-side of the 12" is nothing to sneeze at either).

seeing him tonight for the first time. he was just in our local wrecka stow too!

is it just me or does track 2 on arps, "myggsommer," sound like a martin denny/exotica track?

I think Norse is fun and easy to mix into. I can think of many tracks that's perfect to be mixed with it. Also one of those tracks that's perfect for changing the dynamic/direction of a set.

"Inspector Norse" tore the roof off of Trouw tonight at Nuno dos Santos/Patrice Bäumel's new clubnight. Fantastic to hear it on a great soundsystem surrounded by hundreds of excited dancers!

in norwegian it's pronounced "ter-yay"

Totally into the "Snooze 4 Love (Version)" on the Running Back digital dubplate 10" thing. Not feeling the Son Of Sam side as much, but the A side is pure bliss. Gonna wear the grooves out on this one.
