JoB (JoB), Saturday, 18 September 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Pisces, please tell me you didn't let Vinyl Exchange rip you off?

PS. Thanks for the joy, Annie.

lauren (laurenp), Saturday, 18 September 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

For Vice Magazine, I'm guessing. You going?

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Sunday, 19 September 2004 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

it's not vice as far as i'm aware. it's for the anniversary of the monthly night done by one of my best pals. i'll be there, celebrating the first day of my arrival. will you be around?

lauren (laurenp), Sunday, 19 September 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Possibly, though I'm worried the circumstances may not be ideal (an ILE thread in the making, perhaps).

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Monday, 20 September 2004 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

HI ANNIE WHAT IS IT MADE

apparently Annie's playing at Trash soon as well

teh pow! (blueski), Monday, 20 September 2004 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

straight into the uk chart with a bullet!

there's something sweeet about the fact that she has gone in higher than DIDO's new single.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/top40/

even girls aloud only went to 2!

piscesboy, Monday, 20 September 2004 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

but it's DIdo's third (or even fourth single from that album. Annie not being on Popworld is a pop world of wrongness.

teh pow! (blueski), Monday, 20 September 2004 10:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm afraid to report that I dreamt about Annie last night.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 20 September 2004 10:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Come on, baby, you're her greatest hit.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Monday, 20 September 2004 10:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I really hope Anniemal gets released this year. January is a graveyard month for CDs...

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 20 September 2004 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

happy days! my local smack dealer (record shop) had both CD singles and the 12" in stock for Chewing Gum...too bad i ordered the 7" and both CD's from Rough Trade a week ago...bought the 12" anyway so now i'll have the complete collection. not that i wanted them all but it's tough being an addict.

nothing tops the 7" for Greatest Hit though...and i got it for less than 2 US dollars!

biznotic, Saturday, 25 September 2004 03:34 (twenty-one years ago)

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Wait, what did I sign up for? I hit end and only looked at the last message.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooohh, I got that in my e-mail recently. Should be OK, though I do have a difficult time ahead. I'd love to do the Social too, which seems more plausible.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, checked album reviews: 3 stars in Q (when will those losers learn?) and 4 and a half in DJ (losing out to Riton for album of the month, lame!). I have finally caught up with you lot and the album will comfortably sit in my top 5 this year.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm listening to the album at the moment - it is a lot of fun, some great songs. (there is a torrent of it - don't know if it was mentioned upthread).

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 4 October 2004 10:28 (twenty-one years ago)

is anyone going to see her @ trash tonight?

pete b. (pete b.), Monday, 4 October 2004 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

this isn't going to be in woolworths is it.

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Monday, 4 October 2004 10:36 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, it's gonna be a busy one tho right?

Brigadier Rainham Steele, Mrs (blueski), Monday, 4 October 2004 10:39 (twenty-one years ago)

it could possibly scrape into the lower reaches of their album chart [new releases go in week of release] - worth checking.

their online store [that uses the same database as MVC, Audiostreet i.e same parent company] does stock it.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 4 October 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Great stuff anyway. "Chewing Gun" is kind of a flop in the UK. Too intelligent for the pop audiences, I guess (and, obviously, not "rock" enough for the indie audiences)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 4 October 2004 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

re: trash - i'm sure it'll be rammed. i really want to go but am exhausted after the weekend. maybe i'll just sit in and listen to the album instead < sad old man />

pete b. (pete b.), Monday, 4 October 2004 10:48 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks DJ Martian, i'll go check it out later i think. It's one of those town woolies. Maybe if enough of you buy it then it will be there next week.

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Monday, 4 October 2004 10:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't think 'Chewing Gum' is really a flop - #25 is a good position esp. given the seeming lack of coverage support from leading stores and tv/radio. granted it sounds like it should've been bigger, and i maintain if it had been Rachel Stevens new single then top 5 at least.

Brigadier Rainham Steele, Mrs (blueski), Monday, 4 October 2004 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe. At least it has become a reasonable hit here in Norway. Hopefully, "Heartbeat" (which I suppose will be the next single) will perform better in the UK.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 4 October 2004 10:53 (twenty-one years ago)

From Manchester's Piccadilly Records weekly new releases e-mail:

Annie first gained praise in the UK for her debut single on Norway's ultra cool Telle label, the Madonna sampling Erot composed "Greatest Hit" back in 1999 / 2000, but it's taken until 2004, with the release of "Chewing Gum", for her to really take off big style. Now Annie releases her debut album, "Anniemal" which includes many cheeky, chirpy pop songs, some with an 80s vibe, others more with hints of disco-not-disco. It includes the aforementioned singles and forthcoming "Heartbeat".

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 4 October 2004 10:57 (twenty-one years ago)

"disco-not-disco"
