Sounds more like soothing ambient than scary to me. I, being Scott Walker, will not be associated with such half-witted muzak. They could have at least punched some pig meat, you know, to show they mean it.

That kind of overpowering, claustrophobic drone always gets to me for some reason.

It seems to lean a lot on effects, like the wind blowing over an icy polar landscape. But I do like it, yes.

Anyway, I've been to Indio, if I lived there I would probably be making music that sounded like that.

I'm an ambient man, have been so for 10+ years. The opposite of "innovation and excitement" - which is what I guess you are getting at in your definition of ambient - does not make for (good) ambient, per sé. At least not in my book. Ambient can be unsettling, unnerving as anything else. Ambient itself shines all around the spectrum of what most people call "ambient". From great snoozer-ambient to unsettling, scary ambient.

Butterflies don't eat your clothes. At least I don't think they do. Although that would explain a lot…

Sorry man, cheap joke. I've just recently started getting into ambient, and I dig it a lot, but I guess I have trouble recognizing when ambient is cliché. I'm still at the stage with that genre where my critical insight basically comes down to "I like this" or "I don't like this."
