guys! yelawolf! new album! etc

so what's wrong with em's verse? i thought he kinda killed, what with all that stuttery dancing around the beat and stuff.

messiahwannabe, Saturday, 19 November 2011 04:18 (fourteen years ago)

eh, he's not bad on the verse exactly just so badly outclassed by GANGSTA BOO

do you want me to share what i know w/ you or not? (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 19 November 2011 04:21 (fourteen years ago)

its not cool to like em because he's lyrically lyrical instead of aw man cuz man we here to stay ay, welcome to ilx

upright shitizen's brigade (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 19 November 2011 05:06 (fourteen years ago)

no wonder I like all the shit ILX won't go to back for (like Slaine)

no jesus, no piece (Neanderthal), Saturday, 19 November 2011 12:30 (fourteen years ago)

i have a physical copy on order (lol buying music). disappointed that he didn't absolutely kill this release cuz this was probably my most anticipated drop of the year, but I guess it's better than nothing.

oh well, one month until Jeezy once again pushes back TM103!

aw man, cuz man, we here to stay...ay (Neanderthal), Saturday, 19 November 2011 12:31 (fourteen years ago)

there's good 'lyrical' and bad 'lyrical.' eminem in 2011 is the latter.

quit /stalking/ me 2.0 (some dude), Saturday, 19 November 2011 13:00 (fourteen years ago)

I kinda lost interest in Em once he downsized the humor quotient of his music after Marshall Mathers LP

Neanderthal, Saturday, 19 November 2011 13:11 (fourteen years ago)

so what's wrong with em's verse?

as far as i can tell he says diarrhea two times in a row

sk8 bush (diamonddave85), Saturday, 19 November 2011 19:37 (fourteen years ago)

Eminem also sounds completely aggressively aggrieved all the time, which is almost as annoying as clumsy whiney zings

Regional Thug (D-40), Saturday, 19 November 2011 20:30 (fourteen years ago)

i think everyone thinks it's by far his worst album, but ppl like me & lex seem to like it more than others.

as far as i can see, you, me, maura and whiney like it, mdc doesn't, deej didn't like yelawolf anyway and tim f is prejudging it before hearing.

Tbf lex tim's "prejudging it" could end up being in the records favor if it exceeds his expectations, no?

Regional Thug (D-40), Saturday, 19 November 2011 20:36 (fourteen years ago)

well if you've already decided yelawolf's career trajectory before his debut album has even been released i wouldn't like to say

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Saturday, 19 November 2011 20:40 (fourteen years ago)

oh please. Trunk Muzik was far and away my favourite album of last year so I still expect to like this. I just think it won't be surprising if, having gotten everything about his aesthetic right the first time and by himself, he now increasingly makes bad choices.

Also, holding this up as his "debut album" is basically pandering to major label positioning.

Tim F, Saturday, 19 November 2011 20:49 (fourteen years ago)

tim F otm

Neanderthal, Saturday, 19 November 2011 20:50 (fourteen years ago)

Also I would have sided with you (lex) and jordan in terms of expectations except that matt dc is basically always right.

Tim F, Saturday, 19 November 2011 20:51 (fourteen years ago)

_so what's wrong with em's verse?_

as far as i can tell he says diarrhea two times in a row
--sk8 bush (diamonddave85)

"it's not a rhyme book it's a diary of diarrhea "

upright shitizen's brigade (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 19 November 2011 21:14 (fourteen years ago)

i suppose a 'diarrhea of diarrhea' would make less sense

Neanderthal, Saturday, 19 November 2011 21:20 (fourteen years ago)

Em's verses have been so scatological the last 5 years that I can't believe he hasn't built an entire song around a sample of "when you're sliding into first, and you feel somethin burst..."

Neanderthal, Saturday, 19 November 2011 21:21 (fourteen years ago)

upright shitizen's brigade (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 19 November 2011 21:23 (fourteen years ago)

i like em's verse just fine -- it's not AWESOME or anything but he's still pretty good in fast rap dick mode -- i think everyone is calling it terrible bcuz dude's career atm is largely terrible, but they aren't the same thing

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:41 (fourteen years ago)

dude sounds so angry & humorless. its very off putting imo -- obviously its 'technically adroit' or whatever but thats about as meaningless as oj the juiceman's adlibs are to the quality of his music.

Regional Thug (D-40), Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:47 (fourteen years ago)

his OTT faux-soap opera seriousness was why I checked out around The Eminem Show and Encore (although the former did have the badass "Soldier" on it).

Neanderthal, Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:48 (fourteen years ago)

it's one verse! like i said, it's not awesome or anything but it's listenable. ppl were really overreacting earlier.

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:49 (fourteen years ago)

tbf i haven't heard said verse.

Neanderthal, Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:50 (fourteen years ago)

his "anger" on something like this or on "roman's revenge" is so obv a joke, also

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:50 (fourteen years ago)

how is it a 'joke' what does that mean? he just sounds angry. is it supposed to be ironic?

Regional Thug (D-40), Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:52 (fourteen years ago)

i believe so, yes

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:53 (fourteen years ago)

like it's a very OTT "anger"

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:53 (fourteen years ago)

it's like rain....

Neanderthal, Sunday, 20 November 2011 00:53 (fourteen years ago)

i dunno. i guess im just not getting the 'joke'

Like dude, Em's in total Relapse mode here and on "Ronan's Revenge," like this kind of self-conscious "oh-remember-when-I-was-rap's-enfant-terrible" vibe much in the vein of like Jay-Z's "ignorant shit." If you think Em's really mad, then you're probably Tipper Gore or something

upright shitizen's brigade (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 20 November 2011 01:43 (fourteen years ago)

yeah

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 01:45 (fourteen years ago)

i remember ronan's revenge, those were dark days on 77

some dude, Sunday, 20 November 2011 01:47 (fourteen years ago)

I love this stuff. I loved Relapse too.

People can justify they're derision anyway they want, but It's basically the same fake-anger shockrap + assonance as Odd Future without the Terry Richardson photos/trendy chillwave shoutots/WTFBBQ SO YOUNG TEENAGRES IAN CRUTIS

upright shitizen's brigade (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 20 November 2011 01:49 (fourteen years ago)

i think because em is rapping super fast and gesticulating really wildly that ppl think it has to be GREAT or something but it's just a passable, pretty average verse, which happens all the time on rap albums, just in eminem's style

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 01:54 (fourteen years ago)

idk i don't think it works as a 'joke' at all. it sounds just angry, not funny. he seems tone-deaf in his humor

Regional Thug (D-40), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:02 (fourteen years ago)

i don't think em is the one being tone deaf in humor right now

upright shitizen's brigade (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:15 (fourteen years ago)

i guess eminem yelling angrily would code as hilarious to you

Regional Thug (D-40), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:20 (fourteen years ago)

lol that one was kinda teed up xp

yo zuccotti (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 20 November 2011 02:20 (fourteen years ago)

why are you all still talking about eminem and his one afterthought verse on this album?

I kind of feel like the cure for the 2012 Nicki/Yela/Waka idea of half an awesome rap record and half record label people clearly flailing for pop crossover hits is like release a WHOLE awesome rap record that people will champion as a piece of art/5-mic classic (it's certainly not hurting Killer Mike/Big Boi/Kanye/Danny Brown) and then release tons of sell-out pop jams as MP3s until one sticks

calm me maybe (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 9 June 2012 17:48 (thirteen years ago)
