travis porter is great, "proud 2 be a problem" is a landmark mixtape
― sisilafami, Monday, 14 November 2011 02:10 (fourteen years ago)
dude Alley Boy mixtape was like
rap rap rap DJ DRAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! rap rap
― shiroibasketshoes & tuxedos (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 14 November 2011 02:11 (fourteen years ago)
differenter 3 is half a landmark mixtape, half pretty decent pop rap
― J0rdan S., Monday, 14 November 2011 02:11 (fourteen years ago)
i don't really care for alley boy
― J0rdan S., Monday, 14 November 2011 02:12 (fourteen years ago)
Curren$y is like the most unrewarding listen of anything in 2011, and I have no idea how people can listen to like 20 mixtapes of that guy
― shiroibasketshoes & tuxedos (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 14 November 2011 02:12 (fourteen years ago)
loving this 'landmark' meme
― some dude, Monday, 14 November 2011 02:13 (fourteen years ago)
me too tbh
― shiroibasketshoes & tuxedos (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 14 November 2011 02:13 (fourteen years ago)
i agree w/ that last part, but there's some very good curren$y stuff out there
― J0rdan S., Monday, 14 November 2011 02:13 (fourteen years ago)
whiney thank you for being the first person to ever say something about curren$y that i remotely agree with
― some dude, Monday, 14 November 2011 02:14 (fourteen years ago)
you are welcome, some dude
― shiroibasketshoes & tuxedos (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 14 November 2011 02:14 (fourteen years ago)
curren$y & wayne over the "elevators" beat is one of my fav random rap tracks of the year
― J0rdan S., Monday, 14 November 2011 02:16 (fourteen years ago)
don't know how alley boy is rewarding...
― sisilafami, Monday, 14 November 2011 02:16 (fourteen years ago)
also half that curren$y/alchemist mixtape is great
i used to bang some curren$y when i would drive to work in the morning -- good morning rap music
― J0rdan S., Monday, 14 November 2011 02:17 (fourteen years ago)
to me he's in the same zone as Consequence of like "writes better than most rappers but has an uncanny way of being so much more boring than most of them"
― some dude, Monday, 14 November 2011 02:18 (fourteen years ago)
and Black Thought
― shiroibasketshoes & tuxedos (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 14 November 2011 02:19 (fourteen years ago)
well, it is a prediction, but otoh im almost always right abt those things so
'needs more love'
― 808 Police State (Lamp), Monday, 14 November 2011 03:10 (fourteen years ago)
Curren$y has a much more artful way of putting words together than consequence imo.

Yes my self-aware pride about keeping up w the rap blogosphere was totally hilarious and not in any way knowing
― When snap was real ... Thumbs up if you agree (D-40), Monday, 14 November 2011 03:16 (fourteen years ago)
Xp
i think pretty much the whole curren$y/alch tape is one of the best of the year
alley boy is p boring altho 'rob me a...' is becoming a minor classic i think, in the sense that is fairly memorable as far as stick-up tracks go
― When snap was real ... Thumbs up if you agree (D-40), Monday, 14 November 2011 03:24 (fourteen years ago)
that said, its on the gibbs lp too so why have both
i wouldnt call the travis porter a landmark, ho ho, but i think if you combined its best moments with the best on 'music money magnums' you might have a great record
when i said don trip / starlito are occasionally not v. 'musical' i meant more that their style can momentarily take me out of the world created by their music by being kind of tone deaf -- not in the sense of being in the same key, but in the sense of fitting the overall mood of the track. w/ jordan's example, meek mill always makes his flow fit the style of the beat he's on --
--that said i think that for people who really like trip & starlito that might be part of the appeal the same way its non-interest in hooks is part of the appeal -- so basically, it makes sense that whiney likes this record, based on what he was saying upthread
― When snap was real ... Thumbs up if you agree (D-40), Monday, 14 November 2011 03:27 (fourteen years ago)
if jordan will permit me to allow a few landmark records per year, i think that tity boi's 'trap a veli 2' was 2 chainz' landmark record & he's moved closer to pop but fallen further from 'interesting' since
― When snap was real ... Thumbs up if you agree (D-40), Monday, 14 November 2011 03:29 (fourteen years ago)
i think that 2 chainz is a landmark rapper but i'm not sure if he has a landmark release -- the storyline of him moving into the default king of atl seems like a landmark moment to me, precisely bcuz he has no landmak release that warranted it
― J0rdan S., Monday, 14 November 2011 03:32 (fourteen years ago)
well, trap-a-veli 2 is the one i think is the best all-around record & it sort of set the archetype that he followed on 'codeine cowboy' (with 'feelin you' being the 'up in smoke,' etc.) and its also the one i heard a lot of people talk about after the fact
an sms commenter argued that his best record was the tape before that though for capturing a more unique vibe, i listened to it ages ago so i want to hear again but from what he was saying it also seems like a reasonable narrative

That Alch Curren$y tape is cool but its kind of flat, Alchs beats dont peel my ears back enough, drums dont snap at all.
― kK'll let you know, so pay attention bro (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Monday, 14 November 2011 03:47 (fourteen years ago)
oh btw if whiney is curious i def prefer don trip & starlito to main attrakionz / green ova by like 10x so
― When snap was real ... Thumbs up if you agree (D-40), Monday, 14 November 2011 05:17 (fourteen years ago)
i would agree w/ this
― J0rdan S., Monday, 14 November 2011 05:17 (fourteen years ago)
that should be a no brainer for any goon
― shiroibasketshoes & tuxedos (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 14 November 2011 05:28 (fourteen years ago)
thats should be on the goon entry exam
lol
― J0rdan S., Monday, 14 November 2011 05:29 (fourteen years ago)
young dolph is better than starlito & co. purely on the strength of being 10 times as hilarious

also basically all of your opinions are wrong (i have no idea who scotty is)

his opinion abt scotty is otm although im not convinced that working with burn 1 has ever nec. meant a rapper wont be boring
― When snap was real ... Thumbs up if you agree (D-40), Monday, 14 November 2011 06:03 (fourteen years ago)
or to make things clearer, scotty is not the 1st boring talent hes worked w/
that young dolph song w/ gucci from earlier this year is good

had this same thought
in non-internet-rap news, the Alley Boy mixtape is mastered so poorly that it's practically unlistenable
― shiroibasketshoes & tuxedos (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, November 13, 2011 8:09 PM (Yesterday) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink
this was a curious post. alley boy, not internet rap; travis porter, internet rap?
― When snap was real ... Thumbs up if you agree (D-40), Monday, 14 November 2011 06:06 (fourteen years ago)
you guys jump on me for making statements abt how popular an artist is w/ writers when its empirically true, but whiney can dictate whether something is INTERNET RAP with impunity, seems fair
― When snap was real ... Thumbs up if you agree (D-40), Monday, 14 November 2011 06:34 (fourteen years ago)
don't be mad
but yeah that was a stupid statement that made no sense
i'm p sure alley boy is completely an internet phenomenon, tho just a diff subset of the rap internet than asap rocky and main attrakionz. i don't think alley boy is getting any burn on atlanta radio.
― J0rdan S., Monday, 14 November 2011 06:40 (fourteen years ago)
nah im pretty sure that's not the case. i mean, i dont know about what atlanta radio is like, but kelefa covered the new atlanta underground like 2-3 years ago; that stuff has local support
but i mean, im sure that a lot of that local support ...finds him on the internet. like everyone does these days.
everyone is on the internet now you can't differentiate. there are some that are only w/in a critical discourse but thats not true of alley boy or travis porter afai can tell
― When snap was real ... Thumbs up if you agree (D-40), Monday, 14 November 2011 06:44 (fourteen years ago)
if by 'internet' he means, like, people on dissensus or hipinion are discussing them, then yes alley boy is also an internet artist, popular amongst europeans & former readers of 'out the trunk' alike
