Curren$y is like the most unrewarding listen of anything in 2011, and I have no idea how people can listen to like 20 mixtapes of that guy

i used to bang some curren$y when i would drive to work in the morning -- good morning rap music

to me he's in the same zone as Consequence of like "writes better than most rappers but has an uncanny way of being so much more boring than most of them"

i think pretty much the whole curren$y/alch tape is one of the best of the year

alley boy is p boring altho 'rob me a...' is becoming a minor classic i think, in the sense that is fairly memorable as far as stick-up tracks go

that said, its on the gibbs lp too so why have both

i wouldnt call the travis porter a landmark, ho ho, but i think if you combined its best moments with the best on 'music money magnums' you might have a great record

when i said don trip / starlito are occasionally not v. 'musical' i meant more that their style can momentarily take me out of the world created by their music by being kind of tone deaf -- not in the sense of being in the same key, but in the sense of fitting the overall mood of the track. w/ jordan's example, meek mill always makes his flow fit the style of the beat he's on --

--that said i think that for people who really like trip & starlito that might be part of the appeal the same way its non-interest in hooks is part of the appeal -- so basically, it makes sense that whiney likes this record, based on what he was saying upthread

if jordan will permit me to allow a few landmark records per year, i think that tity boi's 'trap a veli 2' was 2 chainz' landmark record & he's moved closer to pop but fallen further from 'interesting' since

i think that 2 chainz is a landmark rapper but i'm not sure if he has a landmark release -- the storyline of him moving into the default king of atl seems like a landmark moment to me, precisely bcuz he has no landmak release that warranted it

well, trap-a-veli 2 is the one i think is the best all-around record & it sort of set the archetype that he followed on 'codeine cowboy' (with 'feelin you' being the 'up in smoke,' etc.) and its also the one i heard a lot of people talk about after the fact

an sms commenter argued that his best record was the tape before that though for capturing a more unique vibe, i listened to it ages ago so i want to hear again but from what he was saying it also seems like a reasonable narrative

That Alch Curren$y tape is cool but its kind of flat, Alchs beats dont peel my ears back enough, drums dont snap at all.

this was a curious post. alley boy, not internet rap; travis porter, internet rap?

you guys jump on me for making statements abt how popular an artist is w/ writers when its empirically true, but whiney can dictate whether something is INTERNET RAP with impunity, seems fair

nah im pretty sure that's not the case. i mean, i dont know about what atlanta radio is like, but kelefa covered the new atlanta underground like 2-3 years ago; that stuff has local support

but i mean, im sure that a lot of that local support ...finds him on the internet. like everyone does these days.

everyone is on the internet now you can't differentiate. there are some that are only w/in a critical discourse but thats not true of alley boy or travis porter afai can tell

if by 'internet' he means, like, people on dissensus or hipinion are discussing them, then yes alley boy is also an internet artist, popular amongst europeans & former readers of 'out the trunk' alike
