i dont think that you and she share similar senses of humor tbh

― max, Saturday, November 12, 2011 8:07 AM (1 hour ago) Bookmark

i think she shares her sense of humor with suck.com circa 1998

some dude, Saturday, 12 November 2011 14:42 (fourteen years ago)

i think a lot of the internet does!

max, Saturday, 12 November 2011 14:43 (fourteen years ago)

not an excuse

fauxmarc, Saturday, 12 November 2011 14:46 (fourteen years ago)

some dude who are some internet writers you think are funny

ASPIE Rocky (dayo), Saturday, 12 November 2011 14:47 (fourteen years ago)

those letters are first class

ogmor, Saturday, 12 November 2011 14:52 (fourteen years ago)

sorry i didn't realize one had to have favorite internet humorists to criticize an internet humorist -- i will bow out and apologize for my hubris

some dude, Saturday, 12 November 2011 14:55 (fourteen years ago)

lol dude I just want to know what you find funny is all

ASPIE Rocky (dayo), Saturday, 12 November 2011 15:00 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i dunno -- obv i read a lot of online writing but a lot of the stuff i find funny is not primarily about being comedic or is by people i know irl and find funny in that context, so hard question to answer.

some dude, Saturday, 12 November 2011 15:05 (fourteen years ago)

yeh I can't really think of ppl I 'go-to' for funny material except the SA twitterati

ASPIE Rocky (dayo), Saturday, 12 November 2011 15:21 (fourteen years ago)

marina hyde is pretty much my standard for humour

this woman...i can't even

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Saturday, 12 November 2011 16:42 (fourteen years ago)

lol, nuff said.

max, Saturday, 12 November 2011 16:57 (fourteen years ago)

so max is "a lot of the internet" doing something inherently a defense of it? because tbh i feel like anyone who hasn't moved on from that very might magazine-style beating you over the head with its cleverness writing kinda deserves to be clowned

some dude, Saturday, 12 November 2011 17:11 (fourteen years ago)

the other possibility is that the tastemakers on the internet are also people who grew up on the internet so

ASPIE Rocky (dayo), Saturday, 12 November 2011 17:12 (fourteen years ago)

i'm not sure what that means or what it's in reference to

some dude, Saturday, 12 November 2011 17:13 (fourteen years ago)

i dont really know! it doesnt really bother me, i still laugh at it. im not sure that comedy needs to "move on" every 10 years? and im not sure that might magazine is quite the right reference, either. but i never really read suck or might, i was still in middle school when that stuff was big.

max, Saturday, 12 November 2011 17:17 (fourteen years ago)

like i dont really see "letters to the editors of womens magazines" getting published on suck. im not sure it would fit...

that being said "default blog voice" is still suck.com-y (and early gawker-y, choire sicha and elizabeth spiers and those folks), and a lot of people complain about how similar it sounds. (arguably edith in her regular day-to-day blogging is doing a fairly new and interesting "blog voice"). i dont know, like i said, its not something that bothers me.

max, Saturday, 12 November 2011 17:20 (fourteen years ago)

yeah obviously there doesn't need to be like a huge sea change, the shifting trends in writing styles are definitely more subtle and complex than that, i'm oversimplifying a bit. but the background i'm coming at this from is being at pitchfork fairly early on and being kind of weary of the cutesy witty tone that was very pervasive there back then, and trying for something not necessarily serious or humorless but just a bit less precious and eager to please. so to be still surrounded by that shit 10 years later is exhausting for me.

some dude, Saturday, 12 November 2011 17:26 (fourteen years ago)

I dunno either its just something I wrote on the internet

ASPIE Rocky (dayo), Saturday, 12 November 2011 17:27 (fourteen years ago)

yeah see when i laugh at EZ its not cause of that... arch or precious tone. i mean i think thats there--and i know that it annoys whiney to no end, and can see why it irritates people--but to me its secondary to the absurdity of the tone, which is what i like! shes really good at going in directions you dont expect, i think. (or that i dont expect.)

but yeah i think shes a specific taste, and lord knows shes got plenty of megafans so she doesnt need me to defend her.

max, Saturday, 12 November 2011 17:31 (fourteen years ago)

y'know i may not share zimmerman's comic sensibility but i at least get what she's doing and what she's communicating. but like half of dayo's posts are headscratchers for me.

some dude, Saturday, 12 November 2011 17:32 (fourteen years ago)

I'm glad we can both agree on something

ASPIE Rocky (dayo), Saturday, 12 November 2011 17:35 (fourteen years ago)

i found that nyt article to be funny and cool, and easy to relate to as a cranky old man in a young dude's bod. ilm will always act like dismayed schoolteachers over any mainstream article that dares to not treat whatever flavor of the month piece of shit 'musician' with a viral youtube video with fawning reverence, when in reality that crap needs to be taken down a peg. peace

i would give kreayshawn a flying steinerline from the top rope through a table thats on fire and covered in piranhas

the actual thrust of the article is fine with me, really, even if it feels like 4 months late and kind of vaguely defined. mostly it was just the tapdancing top hat-wearing cutesy-poo prose that got on my nerves, i don't really care what anybody thinks about kreayshawn, she's barely worth even 'picking a side' over.

her verse on this 2 chainz tape is terrible btw.

lol 'taken down a peg' every single article in existence is trying to take her down a peg

Creedance House Mafia (D-40), Tuesday, 15 November 2011 03:04 (fourteen years ago)

at least al has the decency just to be blase

& yeah the 2 chainz verse sucks

Creedance House Mafia (D-40), Tuesday, 15 November 2011 03:05 (fourteen years ago)

er, her verse

Creedance House Mafia (D-40), Tuesday, 15 November 2011 03:05 (fourteen years ago)

just blasé

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 15 November 2011 03:06 (fourteen years ago)

my issue w/ the piece as far as 'oooh i feel old' is that there are tons of artists who would be better examples out there, i.e. skrillex or something, where it actually feels like the music adheres to something like a generation gap. 'gucci gucci' sounds like it would have been a hit song any time in the past 15 years

Creedance House Mafia (D-40), Tuesday, 15 November 2011 03:06 (fourteen years ago)

i dunno it sounds pretty post-lil jon quasi-southern to me from a production standpoint. and the overall attitude/content of the lyrics feels vaguely contemporary, not something people were saying a bunch in 1998 or whatever.

jon /bemy/ friend 2.0 (some dude), Tuesday, 15 November 2011 03:09 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i mean it sounds modern i guess but nothing abt it screams generational divide to me

Creedance House Mafia (D-40), Tuesday, 15 November 2011 03:12 (fourteen years ago)

i mean her whole steez is more like 2003 hipster than anything else anyway

Creedance House Mafia (D-40), Tuesday, 15 November 2011 03:12 (fourteen years ago)

i wouldnt know, ive never heard a note of her doubtlessly excruciating "music" - i dont see how it matters, things that make you feel old are often kinda arbitrary and unexpected anyway

The sham nation of Israel should be destroyed. (Princess TamTam), Tuesday, 15 November 2011 03:15 (fourteen years ago)

lol @ tam tam. The eye rolling isn't over it being about this particular artist, just that the same article could have been written about any young popular musician in any year!

mh, Tuesday, 15 November 2011 03:19 (fourteen years ago)

it should be written every year, for every artist

The sham nation of Israel should be destroyed. (Princess TamTam), Tuesday, 15 November 2011 03:26 (fourteen years ago)

I found this article considerably more excruciating than the one song of hers I've liked

Creedance House Mafia (D-40), Tuesday, 15 November 2011 03:30 (fourteen years ago)

aw i kinda like her verse on the 2 chainz tape. i mean, i cant remember anything about her rapping but i like the way her voice is mixed onto the track

/\/K/\/\, Tuesday, 15 November 2011 03:44 (fourteen years ago)

thats not intended as backhanded btw

ah, how quaint (Matt P), Tuesday, 15 November 2011 17:12 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i mean it sounds modern i guess but nothing abt it screams generational divide to me

I thought that was part of the point, actually; she's ultimately inoffensive and not THAT different, but different enough to cause a hilariously overwrought "wait am I old and no longer 'with it'" identity crisis. TBH it's pretty much how I felt about Gucci Mane the first time I heard him, which is probably why I thought it was so funny.

sex-poodle Al Gore (DJP), Tuesday, 15 November 2011 17:22 (fourteen years ago)

if you are having that crisis at all you can rest assured you are no where near old.

ain't nothing nice (bnw), Tuesday, 15 November 2011 17:36 (fourteen years ago)

lol that's the other part of it that I find funny, tbh
