look the thing is the number of copies drake sells is irrelevant here. it's a red herring. if that was the case you'd just be listening to the top billboard albums and there are a ton of those you'll never bother with. it's because you want to be part of the ~critical conversation~ so you follow what other critics are talking to. fucking herd mentality!

as i've said though commercial popularity is a red herring here. if it's not i trust you've all listened to the coldplay, kelly clarkson, adele and tom waits albums? (hang on, tom waits has a top 10 album in your country wtf?)

i wasn't crazy abt the tom waits single but heard the whole album at a friend's house and i really ended up liking it, kinda cool almost 50s sounding recording, kinda odd but it works

i haven't listened to kelly clarkson because the genres i care about dont include her. this is pretty elementary, lex!

i for one listened had an opinion on drake bcuz he was popular, listened to his first album once because he was popular and powerful and i thought as a critic i should have an opinion on it, i listened to this album and want to talk about it a lot because i think it's great, and i could care less about what it's going to sell. i don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to converse with your critics and friends and thus deciding to listen to an album that lots of ppl are talking about.

& yes i really don't think meshell and drake need to be pitted together on ilm of all places, sheesh

if any artist leaves me NO motivation to listen to their album just to 'keep up' it's Drake -- he'll have like 20 songs in heavy rotation over the next year, a quarter of which will be from this album. i really don't feel like i'm missing out on anything.
