Super Roots 3 is the one that sounds like Bad Brains to me, a 30 minute hardcore punk song, and I would agree is the turning point in their discography from playing fragmented splice-punk into playing more groove oriented stuff. But this isn't groove, it's hardcore, and really not *that* interesting. SR 1&2 are similar to what they were doing on Choc Synth and Pop Tatari. I think SR2 was actually only ever available with the Japanese issue of Choc Synth, though I downloaded it from somewhere, so you can find it.

from dleone's pitchfork review today:1988's Onanie Bomb Meets the Sex Pistols ("onanie" being Japanese slang for "female masturbation")
"Onanie Bomb" is the rough English translation of Genbaku Onanies, the very first hardcore band from Japan. "Onanie" is a transliteration of the latin "onanism" which pertains to either sex last time i checked! :-D
By saying "Genbaku Onanies meets the Sex Pistols" they were trying to clue in potential listeners to what the band's influences were.

What does "kansai" mean?
Also: Nankai Hawkwind - RFI? (Eye, Nishida of Danse Macabre and Edi from Genbaku Onanies)
Apparently there was a whole series of noise bands whose names were puns on sports team + other band! and some compillation of said bands called Aiyoku Jinmin Juni Kyudan.
The liner notes go on about PRO WRESTLING pun noise bands!
Also, the notes talk about the idea of playing classic punk songs really slow. Hmmm...
Thanks for THE INFO!

NANKAI HAWKWINDNankai Hawkwind (Japan 7",Watanabe Records/Underground (Japan)--001--7" single) 1987
No line-up details, but a line-up I was given for their listing in the Guitar Barrio anti discography was: CHERRY--Vocals; EYE**--Vocals; EDDIE--Bass; ISONO--Drums; KITAJIMA--Guitar; MURANAOHITO--Guitar; SUGISAKU--Keyboards.
[Tracks/times?]
A Japanese art/noise supergroup. Their name was a play on the baseball team the Nankai Hawks (now known as the Daiei Hawks) and the English prog band Hawkwind. This single included some strands of the members' hair. [Print status?]

yeah, i am always mispelling japanese words (in romanji) so i am forgiving when i read liner notes or lyrics.
kansai = japanese region where osaka/kyoto are (ie, where boredoms are from).
