you guys make this record sound really dull (like a drake record) and yet you keep talking about it. so is it... not dull as balls? idgi

GOIT BUZZ TOYS (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 03:43 (fourteen years ago)

listen for yourself

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 03:44 (fourteen years ago)

if you dont like drake, then you wont like this, simple as.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 03:45 (fourteen years ago)

Doubt it will convert anyone.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 03:45 (fourteen years ago)

that's not true!

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 November 2011 03:51 (fourteen years ago)

i mean it's really engrossing from a production standpoint imo, like even ppl like deej & rev seem to be saying "i get it" even if they're not totally digging the album

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 November 2011 03:52 (fourteen years ago)

most all of the second half of this album has been kind of competent and boring

cannibal adderley (The Reverend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 03:52 (fourteen years ago)

You think this is that different from what he's done previously? xp

yeah, kinda wish i'd been told this. people were making it sound like even a non-fan would enjoy it.

i think it's MUCH more accomplished than TML, yes

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 November 2011 03:54 (fourteen years ago)

Accomplished yeah, but its still the same ingredients, just tastes a little better.

Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 03:56 (fourteen years ago)

i mean it's a drake album, sure. it sounds like a drake album. i think you could say that for like, every rapper ever. i mean was anyone ever like "wow this doesn't sound like an [x rapper] record at all!" i'm not sure. it's just like a better drake record than i ever thought drake was capable of making.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 November 2011 03:56 (fourteen years ago)

this thread seriously is Bizarro-ILX

Neanderthal, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 04:11 (fourteen years ago)

(except for Al)

Neanderthal, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 04:11 (fourteen years ago)

why do you say that

flopson, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 04:49 (fourteen years ago)

(isn't it obvious)--the rampant Drake praise.

it's all well qualified tho......

Neanderthal, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 04:50 (fourteen years ago)

i haven't heard a weeknd track this dumb and repetitive before

― cannibal adderley (The Reverend), Monday, 7 November 2011 21:54 (1 hour ago) Bookmark

i would actually prefer a weeknd ft. drake song to a lot of stuff on this album, & in general feel relief whenever someone else is on, but this is otm

flopson, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 04:53 (fourteen years ago)

pretty mad at how that beat got wasted like that tbh

cannibal adderley (The Reverend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 04:54 (fourteen years ago)

it makes me sad to see everyone expending their energy and time and enthusiasm on this guy when YOU DON'T EVEN LIKE HIM THAT MUCH

talking of moody and introspective soul music with great production, meshell ndegéocello just released an album. i think her thread has about 5 new posts since it dropped ;_;

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 07:10 (fourteen years ago)

i'm v excited about her album but the only way to listen to it right now is streaming off a website which is a dealbreaker for me

cannibal adderley (The Reverend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 07:21 (fourteen years ago)

"I started fucking in ink"

GROSS

ASPIE Rocky (dayo), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 12:24 (fourteen years ago)

sigh, i am listening to this.

the first track is dreadful. so incredibly boring and his voice just leands like leaden slabs of sleaze on your ears. and the dim sum line >:(

distant tinkling piano and not much else => much-vaunted "great production" still to come then?

haha "man all of your flows bore me: paint drying" really? #albumsthatreviewthemselves

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 12:31 (fourteen years ago)

and a tax whinge to cap it off smh

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 12:32 (fourteen years ago)

"shot for me". a complete nothing of a song. at least you don't notice the insufferably condescending lyrics until he starts rapping. how did this dude get a nice guy rep again? he's such a cunt.

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 12:34 (fourteen years ago)

he says "sorry" 80 times a song is why

i actually want to count how many times he's apologized in his records and write about that but that would involve a lot of listening i just don't want to do

some dude, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 12:36 (fourteen years ago)

glad that lex is bringing an un-jaundiced eye to the table

ASPIE Rocky (dayo), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 12:36 (fourteen years ago)

"headlines". i already know i hate this. god he's voice is so inert and nasal! how can anyone stand it! and trap drums + smoove strings ≠ production to blow your mind, smh at comparing this to LTTP or LvM

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 12:37 (fourteen years ago)

they're not really trap drums, they're tinny tick tock drums

some dude, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 12:38 (fourteen years ago)

"crew love". is there even a song in this anywhere? or are him and weeknd dude just going to moan aimlessly and feel sorry for themselves for the whole thing? oh over halfway through and we get a rap about college that pretty much says nothing about anything apart from "i thought the college dropout was a good album". i did too drake!

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 12:42 (fourteen years ago)

haha it's funny that RIHANNA of all people actually sounds ALIVE AND EMOTIONAL when she pops up in the middle of this

i thought this beat was overrated to start with and drake isn't helping matters. his "sensitivity" consists pretty much entirely of telling girls how empty their lives are right?

that little breakdown will make n00bs go nuts but it really is kind of pathetic in comparison to, y'know, actually exciting breakdowns that aren't COMPLETELY CATATONIC.

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 12:46 (fourteen years ago)

"marvin's room". gonna skip this. can we make jojo redo this whole album please?

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 12:46 (fourteen years ago)

still disappointed the whole album wasn't songs w/ the same titles as meryl streep movies

some dude, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 12:48 (fourteen years ago)

"underground kings". is this is meant to be the banger? um...lol.

why does he keep repeating shit? it makes him sound like he keeps forgetting the words. and another total fail of a chorus there. quoting birdman and referencing UGK (kmt at his nerve) just highlights the total lack of energy.

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 12:50 (fourteen years ago)

"we'll be fine". DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE TAKE AALIYAH'S NAME IN VAIN AGAIN

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 12:51 (fourteen years ago)

She said, “you’re such a dog”, I said, “you’re such a bone.”

.............

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 12:52 (fourteen years ago)

seriously though where is this amazing production? it's all the same dreary synths that i guess are meant to signify ~emotional bleakness~ and it's all completely monochrome - LTTP and LvM comparisons way way offbase, the thing with those albums is that while they had gorgeous textures you could vibe out to all over them they also had a sense of motion, constant tangents and surprises and inventiveness running through them. this has...drums that are a bit too loud.

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 12:56 (fourteen years ago)

the fact that it's a drake album means i won't ever love it as much as those (obv)

but you can't get away from the fact that it's a drake album! his voice and persona are so foregrounded and there isn't a whole lot else. "lord knows" is the first beat i'm feeling, that actually raises itself up from a prone position of self-pity - i mean it's not an amazing beat but a decent rapper could really make something of it y'know. that is not drake, who appears to think we should feel sorry for him because he hates himself for being interested in strippers.

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 13:01 (fourteen years ago)

"cameras".

this sounds like ass. drums are too loud and his voice is uncomfortably high in the mix, it feels like he's right in your ear and it is GROSS. as are the lyrics. seriously this dude is justifying fucking around by saying the the other girl only looks good on camera and he's meant to be a paradigm shift in hip-hop attitudes? such bullshit.

GOD STOP SAYING "ARE YOU ME ARE YOU ME" OVER AND FUCKING OVER AGAIN LIKE IT'S A HOOK YOU INADEQUATE PIECE OF SHIT

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 13:06 (fourteen years ago)

"doing it wrong". this is the first track that sounds vaguely okay - still completely nothingy but his higher register is easier to take (more anonymous ie doesn't sound like him) and the chorus hints at a pretty melody. please come back when it's finished!

haha harmonica at the end, i like that actually.

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 13:10 (fourteen years ago)

"the real her". another song predicated on being proud of a girl for something that's nothing to do with him. he's the kind of boy that gets told "you're not my father" every time he gets dumped.

"if something isn't right then who will i complain to" god he even admits that all he does is moan.

the drums sound shit again. there's so little going on in the arrangement but no one's turned the drums down concomitantly - they need to be as soft as the spacey synths, but as it is they're sharp and jarring.

for all that most of his songs are centred around either A Girl who he places on a pedestal or His Own Navel, he's remarkably bad at characterisation - i don't feel like there's been a single interesting detail about anyone he's described. it's just totally empty of personality.

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 13:17 (fourteen years ago)

"look what you've done" could be a decent narrative if he wasn't droning it like a call centre worker reading from a script

I'M SO BORED

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 13:21 (fourteen years ago)

like does he put any effort into his vocals? at all?

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 13:22 (fourteen years ago)

"hell ya fuckin right" is probably the best so far, i like the beat and wayne is largely okay on it, even if the chorus is another complete damp squib. love that epic synth noise though.

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 13:26 (fourteen years ago)

THANK GOD ONLY ONE MORE TO GO.

"practice".

oh ugh this is his skeaziest yet. "all those other men were practice for me" like he's a dirty old man talking to a sex trafficking victim in a filthy brothel. DNW

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 13:28 (fourteen years ago)

in short: this is the worst album i have heard this year and drake needs to die.

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 13:28 (fourteen years ago)

i'm not gettin at you lex but, cf the watch the throne thing, are you listening to this out of curiosity or to exorcise some bile or what?

Abattoir Educator / Slaughterman (schlump), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 13:53 (fourteen years ago)

that's an either/or?

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 14:01 (fourteen years ago)

you can't react with bile if you listen out of curiosity?

all i see is angels in my eyes (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 14:02 (fourteen years ago)

actually though i listened to it For Work.
