I just bought the songs individually from iTunes (in this case, cheaper than Amazon). It's really great.

If it's a Kurt Vile thread bumping-I'll check it out
― nostormo, Friday, 23 March 2012 17:09 (fourteen years ago)
Smoke Ring For My Halo is such a gorgeous freaking record. I heard it in a store the other day, Googled some lyrics, and was surprised as to what it was. I had checked out some clips long ago and never followed up, but this was really, really immediately striking to me, and I picked it up the next chance I got. And I'm so not in this headspace right now; that vast majority of what I've been listening to the past six months is metal. The vibe he conjures is so immediate and evocative; I love everything about it.
― Clarke B., Thursday, 4 October 2012 23:15 (thirteen years ago)
any plans for a new record?
― nostormo, Thursday, 4 October 2012 23:16 (thirteen years ago)
i'd heard there should be one before the end of the year, but have heard nothing more
― Trad., Arrrgh (stevie), Friday, 5 October 2012 07:18 (thirteen years ago)
You can stream the first single, which is over 9 minutes on his website http://kurtvile.com/. New DOUBLE Album out in April. This song is so awesome and slackerish. The beginning sounds a lot like Pavement, but then turns into something so much more amazing.

never too early to anticipate a new Kurt Vile record - Wakin On A Pretty Daze? (2013)
― nostormo, Tuesday, 19 February 2013 22:58 (thirteen years ago)
Think there might be a thread for it already!
― Z S, Tuesday, 19 February 2013 23:41 (thirteen years ago)
ooops, sorry folks.
― scubasteve, Wednesday, 20 February 2013 00:19 (thirteen years ago)
he never sounded so angry, aggressive and dirty as he did on Childish Prodigy.(vocals and production)
i hope he'll make another "dark" record like this, only with much less fillers.

New song with Courtnet burnett is excellent

New single Loading Zones is really good
― calstars, Friday, 17 August 2018 00:50 (seven years ago)
Another new song. Sadly, it's boring. (Loading Zones is boring too imo)
Hope he didn't lose it completely..
― nostormo, Monday, 10 September 2018 18:09 (seven years ago)
But isn't that his shtick? To always make the same boring song? Which usually is great btw.
― Ich bin kein Berliner (alex in mainhattan), Monday, 10 September 2018 18:36 (seven years ago)
The melodies are weaker. He becam too monotonic and lost the melancolic atmosphere.
― nostormo, Monday, 10 September 2018 18:39 (seven years ago)
"bassackwards" is amazing imo
― J0rdan S., Monday, 10 September 2018 18:40 (seven years ago)
i don't remember which new one i heard recently but i too was disappointed
― dyl, Monday, 10 September 2018 19:43 (seven years ago)
The slightly warped sound of Bassackwards is great. That song flows majestically towards the delta. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOFWHty4XFQ
― Ich bin kein Berliner (alex in mainhattan), Tuesday, 11 September 2018 20:19 (seven years ago)
oh i really like that (and yeah "loading zones" is the one i didn't much care for)
― dyl, Wednesday, 12 September 2018 05:23 (seven years ago)
yeah it's gorgeously produced too
ok so i am looking forward to the album then lol
― dyl, Wednesday, 12 September 2018 05:28 (seven years ago)
those lyrics, ugh. when he started in second verse, same as the first, I had to bail
― rip van wanko, Wednesday, 12 September 2018 15:21 (seven years ago)
Yup. The first verse wasn’t even all that. writers using the word “bay” is usually a bad sign I think Loading Zones is much better
― calstars, Wednesday, 12 September 2018 15:46 (seven years ago)
I enjoyed the song right up to the point where I thought, “That was a pretty good song,” then looked at the time and realized there were four plus minutes left.
― Andrew "Hit Dice" Clay (PBKR), Wednesday, 12 September 2018 15:57 (seven years ago)
Pitchfork uploaded his live performence of the new album on youtube.I like the arrangements but the melodies are meh imo
― nostormo, Tuesday, 2 October 2018 16:06 (seven years ago)
i guess maybe i am starting to wonder exactly how many Kurt Vile songs i need in my life

New album today
― calstars, Friday, 12 October 2018 12:34 (seven years ago)
had felt like poster above when it comes to singles so far, but this album is great, especially after the first few tracks. love the mild production variety!
― sean gramophone, Friday, 12 October 2018 13:48 (seven years ago)
the sum of the album is better than the individual tracks, yes. But my god, 80 minutes is a lot.

yeah def...i like him still but i miss the weirdness that creeped around the edges back in the square shells etc era
― The Desus & Mero Chain (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 12 October 2018 17:04 (seven years ago)
80 minutes is a lot.
this, too. or maybe instead of what i posted before. or maybe both.

― calstars, Sunday, 14 October 2018 04:13 (seven years ago)
Well shit I guess it is her on the title
― calstars, Sunday, 14 October 2018 04:18 (seven years ago)
he wrote one near-perfect song in Wakin On A Pretty Day but everything else has felt like rehashes of it or just doesn't come close
― ufo, Sunday, 14 October 2018 05:15 (seven years ago)
"runner ups" is his near-perfect song. he has several! but it's true that many of them seem to have ended up with rehashes at some point down the line -- tho they can still be pleasant
still need to listen to the new one
― dyl, Sunday, 14 October 2018 17:37 (seven years ago)
smoke rings is still his best album. his approach on that one was a bit more motorik, not as much of the rambling Neil Young-isms that define his most recent work, a lot of tight finger-picking in interesting tunings. baby's arms and runner-ups are my favorite tracks of his.
― voodoo chili, Sunday, 14 October 2018 20:44 (seven years ago)
To me it sounds like he’s trying too hard on Smoke Ring. It sounds so busy all the time. Stuff since then has been more relaxed, dare I saw meditative
― calstars, Sunday, 14 October 2018 21:28 (seven years ago)
I liked the new one as I listened to it but now I don't feel super compelled to go back to it. Wouldn't turn it off if it came on, but don't think I'd actively seek it out either.
― sctttnnnt (pgwp), Sunday, 14 October 2018 23:18 (seven years ago)
that pretty much sums up Kurt Vile in general
