Yeah that was cool and unexpected.

the Andre verse is killer too

This will come as no surprise, but I really fucking like this.

And this is miles better than Thank Me Later. I'm really impressed by how Drake's really developed his own sound and nailed this one very specific aesthetic, thanks of course to 40, too. Those two are like Guru and Premo /ridiculouscomparison
― "I know its hard to hear but I'm a Realest." (rennavate), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:06 (fourteen years ago)
it always seemed to me like regardless of whatever else you say about him, drake pretty much staked out his own particular aesthetic since way back on so far gone?
― some dude, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:24 (fourteen years ago)
yeah if anything i would say i love this album not bcuz he nails his specific aesthetic (which was just kinda predictable post 808s boilerplate) but bcuz it really uses that aesthetic to go places that he never really hinted at going
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:27 (fourteen years ago)
Right right, but he keeps diving deeper and deeper into it, fleshing it out in a lot of ways, I mean.
― "I know its hard to hear but I'm a Realest." (rennavate), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:27 (fourteen years ago)
i guess -- i would say its an outward growth not an inward growth
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:29 (fourteen years ago)
prolly doesn't matter either way tho
Outward how? I don't think we're disagreeing in terms of ideas, here.

Also, great Jon B sample on "Cameras."
― "I know its hard to hear but I'm a Realest." (rennavate), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:34 (fourteen years ago)
The Minaj collab is okay; I prefer his bit on J. Cole's "In the Morning."
― lumber up, limbaugh down (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:36 (fourteen years ago)
3 songs in only like the first joint, but I already knew "Headlines" sux
― cannibal adderley (The Reverend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:38 (fourteen years ago)
"headlines" sucks so, so bad, it bears repeating
― some dude, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:39 (fourteen years ago)
"Headlines" > "Over," solely by virtue of having few clunkers and a really great beat.
― "I know its hard to hear but I'm a Realest." (rennavate), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:40 (fourteen years ago)
a great beat, really?
― some dude, Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:41 (fourteen years ago)
the production on this weeknd track is cool, but the hook is really, really stupid.

yeah the "headlines" beat is rudimentary as fuck
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:42 (fourteen years ago)
whoops i didn't mean to paste alfred's post there
was drizzy even on "crew love"?
― cannibal adderley (The Reverend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:42 (fourteen years ago)
yeah the shitty thing about those weeknd tracks is they sound like straight weeknd tracks
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:43 (fourteen years ago)
Rudimentary, yeah, but I'm a sucker for synths and 808s like that.
― "I know its hard to hear but I'm a Realest." (rennavate), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:43 (fourteen years ago)
my copy has got a little blip at around 3:50 on the first track
― ASPIE Rocky (dayo), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:44 (fourteen years ago)
The rip going around now is pretty lousy, that's why, dayo.

nope
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:47 (fourteen years ago)
the problem with "crew love" isn't that it's basically a weeknd track so much as it's just 3 mins of "THEY LOVIN THE CREEEWWW THEY LOVIN THE CREEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWW" rly tho?
lol xp
― cannibal adderley (The Reverend), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:47 (fourteen years ago)

How I Got Over is the ninth studio album by American hip hop band The Roots, released June 22, 2010 on Def Jam Recordings. Production for the album was primarily handled by band members Black Thought, Questlove, Dice Raw, and Rick Friedrich during 2008 to 2009. It contains a subtle, somber sound that incorporates musical elements of soul, jazz, indie rock, and gospel music, and features lyrics concerning themes of existentialism, perseverance, and modern society.

I could do without "Crew Love." That's the only one that feels like a Weeknd ft. Drake track to me.
― "I know its hard to hear but I'm a Realest." (rennavate), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:51 (fourteen years ago)
I'm okay with treating this as just a pop album, like as if I were listening to a rihanna album or something idk
― ASPIE Rocky (dayo), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:51 (fourteen years ago)
well it is a pop album, so that's okay
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:52 (fourteen years ago)

― ASPIE Rocky (dayo), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:54 (fourteen years ago)

there's still def an element of that (and it's not like that part of him was not pop! i mean, "marvin's room" & "i'm on one" are huge hits) but he left a lot of those tracks ("trust issues", "club paradise") off the album. and the album would actually be better w/ those songs on it
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 November 2011 02:56 (fourteen years ago)
yeah 'thursday' is straight ass
