STEP RIGHT UP FOR THE ORTHOGONAL THROWDOWN!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 February 2003 22:13 (twenty-three years ago)

HEPL

I am so confused, how will I know the difference between an evil poseur and a person who just doesn't care? Do I set them on fire?

felicity (felicity), Monday, 3 February 2003 22:18 (twenty-three years ago)

When in doubt -- set them on fire.

HONOR THE FIRE

Thank you, your honor. The defense rests :)

felicity (felicity), Monday, 3 February 2003 22:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Taking sides: Killing Joke or Big Black?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 3 February 2003 22:31 (twenty-three years ago)

there is such an irony when people are protecting the Ramones from "poseurs."
First off...none of them were actually Ramones by blood.
Second...I don't think the (admittedly ironic) fetishization of Nazi memorabilia came naturally to Jeffrey Hyman. Neither did leather jackets (dude rocked flares back in the day).

I was gonna reference Alex and his goon squad coming to town *beep! beep!* But Ned stole my fire.

In Shania's new video she pulls a Canadian flag, a Canadiens Hockey Jersey, a bunch of other assorted crap I'm forgetting, and an AC/DC shirt out of what appears to be some sort of "hip" hope chest. I have no idea what's going on anymore, but I'm horrified to say the least.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 01:33 (twenty-three years ago)

At the American Music Awards:

Like Cher at the Oscars circa 1987. But, you know, without taste.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 01:45 (twenty-three years ago)

god. you people keep forgetting that she's Mrs. Mutt Lange. It explains EVERYTHING (including her assnasty warddrobe). And Mutt produced AC/DC...so duhhh!!!!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 02:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Who could forget? Sheesh - you say that as if "Mutt style" makes any sense to begin with.

Kim (Kim), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 03:07 (twenty-three years ago)

It explains EVERYTHING

How dull that is, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 03:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Dude, I totally want that bandages and taffeta outfit, what is that? That's fantastical.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 05:30 (twenty-three years ago)

That looks like John Galliano for Dior.

This is such an old story. It goes back at least as far as the time Al Jolson wore that "Stravinsky" T-shirt on the cover of Photoplay.

Amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 07:11 (twenty-three years ago)

"Taking sides: Killing Joke or Big Black?"

There would be no Big Black without Killing Joke. Albini owes his fucking career to them.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 13:29 (twenty-three years ago)

(I was thinking more "HONOR THE FIRE!" vs "SET ME ON FIRE!", to be honest.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 18:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I remember in like 1991, the punks at my high school would wear New Kids shirts. So like, maybe this is payback. Maybe the squares are finally fighting back. Maybe, like the Atomic 7 song suggests, she's wearing the shirt IRONICALLY???

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 18:45 (twenty-three years ago)

…already….

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 18:51 (twenty-three years ago)

HAHA Dave, that could be the name of a track on Shania's new album!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 18:54 (twenty-three years ago)

At first I thought this thread had gone on a bit too long. And that was in November.. Then it got to be funny that it was so long .. By the time I posted that last bit, it was so old that it just wasn't funny anymore.

But, will wonders never cease, it's already starting to be funny to me again.

dave225 (Dave225), Tuesday, 4 February 2003 18:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Let's revive this awful thread, as Fred Durst was sporting a Minor Threat T-shirt at the press conference for the Metallica tour yesterday. So, Alex in NYC and Anthony Miccio, FITE!

One more pic, since in this one it looks like Lars' neck just snapped.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 6 February 2003 20:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I do like the way his tongue is all lolling out of his head (even more so than before). I think what is more amusing is how Fred Durst is mutating into Tommy Lee.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 February 2003 20:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Bald metal stars of the world UNITE!

This reminds me of seeing one of the members of Metallica (Jamez, I think) sporting an SNFU t-shirt on the back of one of their earlier releases. At the time I thought it was really cool that the band would give that kind of exposure to a small Canadian band that really could use that kind of exposure. On the other hand, I wonder what the end result was for SNFU: did they actually get any noticeable attention from that photo? And if they did, was it helpful? (in other words, did they get new fans that actually appreciated what they were doing, or was it just a bunch of metal meatheads that didn't really have any real affinity with SNFU in the first place?)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 6 February 2003 21:03 (twenty-three years ago)

(oh and yeah by the way I'm shocked that this thread is still going)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 6 February 2003 21:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Anyone know who Fred's stylist is? Wait. You mean he doesn't pick out those hats himself???

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 6 February 2003 21:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Strike "doesn't" from that last sentence. Argh.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 6 February 2003 21:06 (twenty-three years ago)

But then the grammar police will get you, Yanc3y!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 6 February 2003 21:07 (twenty-three years ago)

You got a place I can hide?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 6 February 2003 21:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Despite the fact that Fred Durst almost singularly personifies the very attributes Minor Threat once sought to erase from the hardcore scene, I feel reasonably certain that he's at least familiar with their music, and probably spent at least a little bit of time listening to it (even if the message contained therein eluded him),......unlike Shania and the Ramones. Basically, I can believe that, despite him being a thankless, meatnecked mook, Fred Durst is a Minor Threat fan.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 6 February 2003 21:29 (twenty-three years ago)

THREE CHEERS FOR THE PHRASE "thankless, meatnecked mook"!

Evil! Evil! Impolite and evil!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 14:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Her house was built by AC/DC and Def Leppard, so I don't find it extremely unbelievable that she'd heard some gtr music sometime in her existence

dave q, Wednesday, 5 March 2003 14:53 (twenty-three years ago)

*pours acid over eyes*

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 14:56 (twenty-three years ago)

This thread always makes me smile. It's so primitive.

I still like the gasoline commercial, I mean, "In My Car (I'll Be the Driver)."

felicity (felicity), Saturday, 8 March 2003 17:27 (twenty-three years ago)

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Sunday, 16 March 2003 22:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Shania Twain t-shirt: $25
Ramones t-shirt: $20
Ability of Shania in a Ramones t-shirt to generate controversy and bloat ILX's db: priceless

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Sunday, 16 March 2003 23:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I actually have the said same shirt that caused all this controversy.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 16 March 2003 23:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Is it ripped the same way? More to the point, Ally, do you have a photo of you in it with mountains in the background?

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Monday, 17 March 2003 00:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I wish I had a photo like that. I need to find some mountains, like pronto. I don't think they have those in Manhattan. :( :(

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 17 March 2003 02:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I actually have the said same shirt that caused all this controversy.
Picked it out of Shania's trash can. It served its purpose and She'll never wear it again.
