♆ (gr8080), Monday, 26 March 2012 05:41 (fourteen years ago)

Last time he was here, Ellen predicted what Justin Bieber's new song, "Boyfriend," would sound like. Now that it's about to be released, Justin wanted to play her a clip and show her just how right she was!

♆ (gr8080), Monday, 26 March 2012 05:42 (fourteen years ago)

LOL!

J0rdan S., Monday, 26 March 2012 05:43 (fourteen years ago)

piscesx, Monday, 26 March 2012 09:17 (fourteen years ago)

It is so similar to N'sync's "Girlfriend" but in all the right ways.

boxedjoy, Monday, 26 March 2012 09:36 (fourteen years ago)

hope this is a hit

flopson, Monday, 26 March 2012 16:21 (fourteen years ago)

J0rdan S., Monday, 26 March 2012 16:44 (fourteen years ago)

lol the verses remind me of the whisper song

♆ (gr8080), Monday, 26 March 2012 17:23 (fourteen years ago)

lol it totally does sound like the whisper song!

i find that i feel a weird relief that biebs has finally made a decent song (maybe even a great one) - you knew it was gonna happen sooner or later and now here it is.

lex pretend, Monday, 26 March 2012 17:51 (fourteen years ago)

lex pretend, Monday, 26 March 2012 18:04 (fourteen years ago)

This song is not as good as "Somebody to Love."

hot and brothered (Eric H.), Monday, 26 March 2012 18:16 (fourteen years ago)

I've been loving Bieber for years now. Way to catch up.

hot and brothered (Eric H.), Monday, 26 March 2012 18:18 (fourteen years ago)

it is actually 2012's first great pop song, isn't it

i was thinking this... but it's probably the second great pop song after "call me maybe"

Well, no, I still like him with a low voice. But the thrill is gone.

hot and brothered (Eric H.), Monday, 26 March 2012 18:20 (fourteen years ago)

this is produced really well, they layer his vocals nicely in places

J0rdan S., Monday, 26 March 2012 18:20 (fourteen years ago)

he's put out some good stuff before but i thought it would be at least another album cycle before he made his 'justified' move

J0rdan S., Monday, 26 March 2012 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

It's weird to say, but I like his performance on this way better than I actually like the song.

OK, feds take me away.

hot and brothered (Eric H.), Monday, 26 March 2012 18:28 (fourteen years ago)

by far the most interesting thing i've seen from this commodity:

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 03:10 (fourteen years ago)

Noam Chomski ‏ @NoamChomski Bieber is not going to tell young girls about feminism or Beauvoir's books, he is going to tell them about having fun and consuming.

Runaway Love is a great song.

billstevejim, Wednesday, 28 March 2012 04:27 (fourteen years ago)

i only really like the remix w/ raekwon & kanye but i agree the remix is a great song

if you feeling frogbs, leap (The Reverend), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 04:31 (fourteen years ago)

I love the sound of "Boyfriend" -- it really does feel like a return to production styles of ca. 2002-04 -- but I wish there was more of a tune here.

Cuba Pudding, Jr. (jaymc), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 04:39 (fourteen years ago)

more of a tune? it's one of the most immediately catchy things i've heard this year

lex pretend, Wednesday, 28 March 2012 08:30 (fourteen years ago)

i'm putting on an r&b night tonight and i'm gonna play this and not tell anyone what it is

lex pretend, Wednesday, 28 March 2012 09:59 (fourteen years ago)

parts of this new bieber sound are remarkably similar to jesse mccartney

pearsonic, Wednesday, 28 March 2012 12:20 (fourteen years ago)

he's put out some good stuff before but i thought it would be at least another album cycle before he made his 'justified' move

My thoughts exactly. Otoh I can see that they had to do *something*, "My World"'s production/angle/songwriting was tethered to his pre-pubescent voice. I just wish I could say I liked this more than, uh, anything off "Justified".

mom in the woods (Ówen P.), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 13:15 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, if we're extending the Justified comparison, I just wish it was closer to "Like I Love You" than to a back-half track like "Right for Me."

Cuba Pudding, Jr. (jaymc), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 13:49 (fourteen years ago)

is 'the justified move' the most overrated thing ever? it's possible.

this is fine but i'm not that enthusiastic about it.

teledyldonix, Wednesday, 28 March 2012 15:17 (fourteen years ago)

are those bird calls? whoooooo....

Estimate the percent chance that a whale has ever been to the moon? (frogbs), Wednesday, 28 March 2012 15:19 (fourteen years ago)

kind of feels like Bieber's entire career since the moment he got signed is about riding out The Other Justin's arc and making the Justified move feel like a grim inevitability

some dude, Wednesday, 28 March 2012 15:26 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, if we're extending the Justified comparison, I just wish it was closer to "Like I Love You" than to a back-half track like "Right for Me."
Why's everyone always dissin Right For Me?

billstevejim, Wednesday, 28 March 2012 18:30 (fourteen years ago)

Has anyone since Timberlake been in a position to utilize "the Justified move"? As if this is something that's happened more than once?

billstevejim, Wednesday, 28 March 2012 18:32 (fourteen years ago)

it kinda depends on whether you think the key context of that album is the move from pop to R&B, from group member to solo star, from teenpop star to universal/'adult' pop icon, or whether it applies equally to female acts etc. lots of artists before or since have had rough parallels in some of those categories, Bieber's just probably the most at once (although he was never in a group).
