isnt that the one that's just a stuttered biggie beat

the bigger problem on that track is the endless downtuned vocal chorus

the bo deal will probably get slept on mostly but this track is pretty amazing. ranks up with his classic 'bananas'

The boyboy young jess (D-40), Wednesday, 2 November 2011 07:54 (fourteen years ago)

its a gender battle track where the dude is the one trying to get the girl pregnant, kind of a flip of the cliche

The boyboy young jess (D-40), Wednesday, 2 November 2011 08:05 (fourteen years ago)

is there a rap song this year with more youtube hits than 'racks' (almost 12 million !!)

tpp, Wednesday, 2 November 2011 09:39 (fourteen years ago)

"Yonkers" and "Gucci Gucci" both have more than twice that i'm afraid

Number None, Wednesday, 2 November 2011 09:41 (fourteen years ago)

lil wayne featuring eminem 64 million

ok i give up

tpp, Wednesday, 2 November 2011 09:41 (fourteen years ago)

using the patented youtube views metric ASAP is certainly lagging way behind this year's other blog faves

based off 3 listens per tape 2Chainz > ASAP > Freddie Gibbs. I prefer the Travis Porter 'Music Money Magnums' to any of them (don't think that's the most recent Travis Porter tho)

screwed hooks have been all over rap since still tippin deej. u sound a bit like "i don't like how this new rapper uses pieces of other records on the hook, what's up with that?"

zvookster, Wednesday, 2 November 2011 16:32 (fourteen years ago)

Checked out "Tony Story" off the Meek Mill thanks to JOrdan's review. Awesome

Number None, Wednesday, 2 November 2011 16:41 (fourteen years ago)

You should really have that meek mill imo. It's like 70% the best mixtape this year

And yeah bro I know what a screwed hook is. It just sounds cheap here and more gives feels like a reverse bee gees effect than an actual s&c hook.

The boyboy young jess (D-40), Wednesday, 2 November 2011 16:55 (fourteen years ago)

The gibbs is way better than the asap imo

I'm really conflicted abt 2 chainz although it sounds p much as I expected

The boyboy young jess (D-40), Wednesday, 2 November 2011 16:57 (fourteen years ago)

yeah the meek mill is excellent. I like the production on freddie gibbs better than asap for sure, it's just he has too many kinda smooth cuts for me, which isn't really my thing, so i prefer the asap cos of the style rather than the quality.

pandemic, Wednesday, 2 November 2011 17:33 (fourteen years ago)

meek mill just has that something about his voice that connects - j0rdan discussed this in his review, it's something that plenty aim for but when someone has it, it's just POW. don't even mind the generic lex luger beats really. what i find interesting is the way he crosses WAKA-style energy with complex narrative without sacrificing either.

is it just me or does he bring the best out of rawse, too? maybe it's just something about how their voices contrast that makes me more amenable to rick ross's elephantine galumphing as a foil to meek's nervous energy.

lex pretend, Wednesday, 2 November 2011 17:41 (fourteen years ago)

i feel like codeine cowboy & trap-a-velli 2 > the new one

sisilafami, Wednesday, 2 November 2011 17:46 (fourteen years ago)

zvooks, good catch but i think i was trying to say i thought he was wack
maybe too subtle

btw, i predictably like the roots/krit collabo a lot

this is partly right, but the thing about ASAP is that he isn't -- i think even too ppl that really like his music -- an amazing rapper qua rapper. and i think if you're an amazing rapper, you can get away with relying heavily on c&s hooks, but with ASAP (and tons of other rappers) it might be a sign that he just doesn't have that many ideas for hooks right now, and that wouldn't be good

yeah there's something to this. the interplay b/w their two styles really works.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 November 2011 18:37 (fourteen years ago)

Those are literally not s and c hooks, though. It's a dude talking slowed down, but not our a scratched hook, more like what mf grimm does in "scars and memories"

The boyboy young jess (D-40), Wednesday, 2 November 2011 18:48 (fourteen years ago)

Like, the normal s&c hook is a sample

The boyboy young jess (D-40), Wednesday, 2 November 2011 18:49 (fourteen years ago)

right... well they're screwing his voice instead of a sample, and not chopping it. it's not that big of a distinction. the end results would be pretty similar.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 November 2011 19:00 (fourteen years ago)

stuff like "my chick bad" and "black mags" are just the rappers pitched down, but yeah they're used like samples whereas this is just dude rapping pitched down, i know what deej means.

zvookster, Wednesday, 2 November 2011 19:20 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i dont think it works for them xp

The boyboy young jess (D-40), Wednesday, 2 November 2011 19:21 (fourteen years ago)

well typically when someone says s&c hook i'm thinking of, like, the hook to still tippin, where its a sample slowed down for a hook

The boyboy young jess (D-40), Wednesday, 2 November 2011 19:22 (fourteen years ago)

anyway, pedant overload. jordan was totally otm about the french montana hook on this new pusha t

The boyboy young jess (D-40), Wednesday, 2 November 2011 19:22 (fourteen years ago)

it wasn't pedantry: it turned out u had more specific criticisms than "pitched down hooks suck"

zvookster, Wednesday, 2 November 2011 19:47 (fourteen years ago)

forks: it's the "hilarious" pun on wack, beloved of hundreds, that's embarrassing! typos and misspellings aren't embarrassing.

zvookster, Wednesday, 2 November 2011 19:51 (fourteen years ago)

thats not all i said in the first place, though

The boyboy young jess (D-40), Wednesday, 2 November 2011 19:51 (fourteen years ago)

ok dude

zvookster, Wednesday, 2 November 2011 19:52 (fourteen years ago)

anyway why is no one talking about the bo deal track i posted that shit is ridiculous

The boyboy young jess (D-40), Wednesday, 2 November 2011 19:58 (fourteen years ago)

the gucci & v-nasty track is pretty crazy yall

The boyboy young jess (D-40), Wednesday, 2 November 2011 20:21 (fourteen years ago)

doing a song with V-Nasty is one of the most Gucci Mane-esque things Gucci Mane has ever done

The boyboy young jess (D-40), Wednesday, 2 November 2011 20:27 (fourteen years ago)

i've listened to two Future mixtapes a lot but can't see myself really listening to this 2 Chainz one

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Wednesday, 2 November 2011 21:23 (fourteen years ago)

i'm really, really pissed that v-nasty didn't call riff raff

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 November 2011 21:23 (fourteen years ago)

btw deej i was thinking last night that future is prob a challenge to your claim that 2 chaaaiiinz is the biggest rapper in atl right now

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 November 2011 21:24 (fourteen years ago)

riff raff bon jovi doesnt collab

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Wednesday, 2 November 2011 21:27 (fourteen years ago)

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Wednesday, 2 November 2011 21:27 (fourteen years ago)

future is a non-entity

The boyboy young jess (D-40), Wednesday, 2 November 2011 21:46 (fourteen years ago)

who checks for that dude's bars? no one

The boyboy young jess (D-40), Wednesday, 2 November 2011 21:46 (fourteen years ago)

what kind of weird thing to say is that

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 November 2011 21:50 (fourteen years ago)

ppl check for his... songs

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 November 2011 21:50 (fourteen years ago)

2 chainz definitely has a career/career prospects beyond a couple singles in a way future doesn't

prettyliketynandelong (some dude), Wednesday, 2 November 2011 21:52 (fourteen years ago)

that's probably true but we're talking about the biggest rapper in atlanta right now

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 2 November 2011 21:53 (fourteen years ago)

biggest RAPPER.
