no one said he's unknown. i mean, read the thread title.

The Reverend, Friday, 28 October 2011 21:01 (fourteen years ago)

It's not like he's that unknown

ah, how quaint (Matt P), Friday, 28 October 2011 21:09 (fourteen years ago)

Apparently he's catching on with a very youthful crowd!

Moodles, Friday, 28 October 2011 21:31 (fourteen years ago)

h8 that 9-year-old

On a related note, where were the sweet electro-rave dance parties when we were that young?

How old is this writer?

deadmau5 is really mad at madonna for naming her new album MDNA

https://www.facebook.com/deadmau5

seriously, i giveth not a fucking single FUCK for slating on madonna for reaching an entirely NEW level of idiocy ... i can appriciate her meteoric career, and all good deeds done, but WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT? That's your big contribution to EDM? Thats your big message to ultra attendies? hipsterspeak for looking for drugs? fuck off you fucking IDIOT. fuck.

yeah, i really kinda leeeeeeeeroy jenkins'd that shit huh... MDNA / Molly / MDMA / whatever .. something about a track? still seems the same to me, coz its still, in my opinion, unecciscary promotion of the shit that really held EDM down for years.

Now, weve taken EDM so far in the past decade, so goddamned far. It really hurts me to see rampant ADVOCATION of extreme bullshit lifestyles to a genre that spans pretty much any age gap these days. Of course, ill always have my opinions about this or that… and yeah, its my personal choice not to do drugs, but im not on a fucking crusade to stamp out other peoples personal choices by no means. fuck being a crusader. Im not pro, or anti drug… but… ill easily let you know that im pro-responsibility.

max, Monday, 26 March 2012 12:41 (fourteen years ago)

Why is everyone calling it EDM all I a sudden?

it is quite a challop to claim that ecstasy has been an obstacle to the popularity of electronic dance music

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 26 March 2012 16:26 (fourteen years ago)

i could say a lot of shitty things about Madonna, but one thing she's never done is walk around with a big mouse head on her head.

Jamie_ATP, Monday, 26 March 2012 16:32 (fourteen years ago)

it used to be that DJs got mad at madonna for stealing voguing

max, Monday, 26 March 2012 16:35 (fourteen years ago)

'Eezer Good! Eezer Good!' vs 'Im not pro, or anti drug… but… ill easily let you know that im pro-responsibility.'

no wonder it's taking so long for the US to embrace dance music.

Scary Move 4 (dog latin), Monday, 26 March 2012 16:36 (fourteen years ago)

fwiw, fuck club drugs

Hungry4Games (crüt), Monday, 26 March 2012 16:42 (fourteen years ago)

max, Monday, 26 March 2012 16:45 (fourteen years ago)

sorry that was my irrational distaste for dance clubs speaking, I'm sure the drugs are fine

• He's still angry at Madonna for her appearance at the Ultra Music Festival in March, where she asked the audience, "How many people in this crowd have seen Molly?” – a barely coded reference to Ecstasy. "You want to be 'hip' and 'cool' and 'funky grandma'?," says Zimmerman. "Fine. It's not my place to say you're irrelevant. If you're gonna come into my world, at least do it with a little more dignity. I understand she has millions more fans, and is way more successful than I'll ever be. But it's like talking about slavery at a fucking blues concert. It's inappropriate."

Black_vegeta (Hungry4Ass), Monday, 25 June 2012 14:15 (thirteen years ago)

Again he's somehow mistaking something being 'inappropriate' with it being 'one of, if not the main thing that made the genre happen'

Jamie_ATP, Monday, 25 June 2012 14:35 (thirteen years ago)

I think Madonna looks plenty dignified these days. She's a dancer, she has a dancer's figure. I've had dance teachers and known dancers over 50 and that is how they present themselves. It's disappointing to see alleged "dance" music people ignorant about dance culture and history.

Victim-blaming Techno Shithead (tootie and the blowfish), Monday, 25 June 2012 14:39 (thirteen years ago)

dude is kind of aggro, he should try some mdma

speaking of inappropriate?

fauxmarc, Monday, 25 June 2012 14:42 (thirteen years ago)

"If you're gonna come into my world, at least do it with a little more dignity"

surely madonna was fucking with 909s and house music while he was was a hairless little mau5 pup.

'slavery at a fucking blues concert' is a bit much no?

owenf, Monday, 25 June 2012 14:43 (thirteen years ago)

That said, ecstasy is pretty overrated as a drug. Why you need it to dance, I don't know. But lots of dance people have tried it so they understand what it does.

Still a joke about ecstasy is harmless. I don't think Madonna uses large quantities of drugs.

Victim-blaming Techno Shithead (tootie and the blowfish), Monday, 25 June 2012 14:46 (thirteen years ago)

yeah madonna was working with dance music pioneers before he was born. the whole 'welcome to my world grandma' is the worst part of that quote by far.

thought this revive was going to be about the "we all press play" thing:

http://createdigitalmusic.com/2012/06/deadmau5-honest-about-his-own-press-play-sets-misses-out-on-scene/

40oz of tears (Jordan), Monday, 25 June 2012 15:16 (thirteen years ago)

"we all press play" -> "I don't actually find out what any of my peers or more established musicians have been doing"

mh, Monday, 25 June 2012 15:35 (thirteen years ago)

agreed, but he does make some valid points, like a whole mess of electronic musicians do some variation of ableton + beat repeat for their live show, the real work is done in the studio, and most people in the audience have no idea what's happening up on stage. of course there are a shitload of exceptions.

40oz of tears (Jordan), Monday, 25 June 2012 15:44 (thirteen years ago)

not really a novel thing to say in 2012, that has kind of been the case for over a decade now and some artists do different things, some have more complex live setups, and others just make really bad dancing and knob turning motions in the hopes of looking like they're really engaged

mh, Monday, 25 June 2012 15:47 (thirteen years ago)

he really says EDM a lot

owenf, Monday, 25 June 2012 16:18 (thirteen years ago)

I just realized I hardly ever read about electronic musicians, I'm just not interested, unless they are talking about influences or something. But this quote from Wikipedia is amusing.

"It puts me to fucking sleep, to be quite honest; I don't really see the technical merit in playing two songs at the same speed together and it bores me to fucking tears and hopefully, with all due respect to the DJ type that will fucking go the way of the dinosaur, I'd like them to dis-a-fucking-ppear! It's so middle man, they're like fucking lawyers!

Victim-blaming Techno Shithead (tootie and the blowfish), Monday, 25 June 2012 16:33 (thirteen years ago)

"beatmatching” isnt even a fucking skill as far as im concered anyway

i think this is all i ever need to know about him

fauxmarc, Monday, 25 June 2012 16:40 (thirteen years ago)

there's a hard sliver of conservatism running through all these "controversial" pronouncements that paired with his out-there image feels really familiar somehow

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 25 June 2012 16:54 (thirteen years ago)

Morrissey ?

viborg, Monday, 25 June 2012 17:02 (thirteen years ago)

But seriously, who cares what this cunt thinks? He seems to have quite a few defenders but I haven't heard any production of his that even rises close to the level of a decent Digweed production ("For What You Dream Of"?)

Crackle Box, Thursday, 28 June 2012 11:47 (thirteen years ago)

the guy called gerald thing is kinda disturbing. what's with the line about "the only button you want to push is a nuke for the Palestinians"? is that some sort of anti-semitic attack?

dmr, Thursday, 28 June 2012 17:23 (thirteen years ago)

yeah .. there's been some reaction to that particular wording on facecrook as well.

mark e, Thursday, 28 June 2012 17:24 (thirteen years ago)

is there any particular evidence that deadmauf is a likudnik or something

pvmic bellvm (goole), Thursday, 28 June 2012 17:29 (thirteen years ago)

after spending 5 minutes googling 'deadmau5 zionist' and 'deadmau5 israel' i have say no

Black_vegeta (Hungry4Ass), Thursday, 28 June 2012 17:48 (thirteen years ago)

uh, wtf Gerald

btw Gerald's live show was definitely him doing stuff live, but it was also kind of like "how to make funky beats with Reason" and he seemed a little like your dad trying to tell you how to party. now he seems more like the weird uncle with funny ideas about jews?

mh, Thursday, 28 June 2012 18:06 (thirteen years ago)

well, just this one jew. maybe he knows something we dont

Black_vegeta (Hungry4Ass), Thursday, 28 June 2012 18:11 (thirteen years ago)

The one time I saw A Guy Called Gerald live was last year at Glastonbury and we were all high fiving each other for having wandered past just in time for Voodoo Ray and then like 20mins later he was still playing Voodoo Ray. For all I know he could have been playing it for the previous 20mins as well.

It was kinda cool though.
