don't say you didn't find something endearingly teedra-like about that

What apart from "Clothes Off" and "Sexy Sexy" is really good? I have zero hard drive space at the moment.
― Tim F, Tuesday, 25 October 2011 12:17 (fourteen years ago)
in my recent funky torpor i was inexplicably drawn to listen to that rebekka france mix again (and again) this morning actually
^^ where can i listen to this? (i saw it on the tracklist for that pioneer/fuzzy logik/etc show, but can't recall it, tbh)
― rusty_allen, Tuesday, 25 October 2011 13:28 (fourteen years ago)
nevermind, it's on the andy j & s-tee 1xtra mix. yeah, it's great.
― rusty_allen, Tuesday, 25 October 2011 13:39 (fourteen years ago)
^^ nothing really stands out, imo. 3 of the tracks are dubstep-y with ravey synths ('closer' is akin to 'katy on a mission', for example). and the last 2 tracks are somewhat forgettable piano driven ballads.

Rather in two minds about MC Versatile on this one:

I'm having difficulty believing MC Versatile could be anything other than a joy to listen to on anything.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 10:22 (fourteen years ago)
Sometimes to amuse myself I just read him tweeting about Eastenders and imagine it in his high pitched whoop.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 10:23 (fourteen years ago)
If you don't focus on what he's saying he's still a joy to listen to here.

Great free Andy J and S-T tune for free download:

― Tim F, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 11:18 (fourteen years ago)
i forget, did the old funkystepz remix of that ever crop up for download? much the better.
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 12:58 (fourteen years ago)
I think it could be bought as an individual track due to being on the Supa Dupa comp?
― Tim F, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 15:33 (fourteen years ago)
"forgettable"? for one thing "trophy girl" doesn't actually have any piano in it, it's more in the promise/devotion vein (and it's great, too). the whole ep is worthwhile imo

Beneath showcase mix: http://blackdownsoundboy.blogspot.com/2011/10/beneath.html
Don't think this will be for everyone, esp those that aren't into Youngsta and 04/5 dubstep but to me presents an interesting complimentary strand to other parts of uk funky.
― Martinclark, Tuesday, 1 November 2011 19:39 (fourteen years ago)
Thought it was worth a thread bump for this one, should be up the streets of a few people here. Mellow Bee ft Jada Pearl and Fatz - Under The Covers:http://soundcloud.com/mellowbeeuk/mellow-bee-under-the-coversNew Fuzzy Logic and Myshy tunes is even better, might upload a radio clip of it in a bit if I can be bothered.

^That Beneath mix is well worth a listen btw.

The Marcus Nasty 4 November 2011 set is great, based I've heard in 6 months maybe. Still some overdriven post-Redlight bam bam bam stuff but the good tunes are great and Shantie & Rankin's energy is top notch.
Also like the kind of boppy stiff-jointed femme electro-house vibe that seems to be doing the rounds, like the new Fuzzy/Myshy tune but also that fantastic DJ Pantha "Satisfaction Guaranteed" number.

'landscapes' is also quite appealling in that 'love dub' sort of way, but 'it's seriou's' is just incredible...

Lol I finally got myself geared up to register for the sandbox and now we're back here. What I was planning to say over the other side - I agree with Tim and others that although there were good tunes scattered here and there, Funky overall did take a bit of a nosedive in 2011, and therefore I'm not sure I have great hopes for it in 2012.One positive story from last year I though worth mentioning though - Jae Elle. Possibly the strongest vocalist in the scene over 2011, certainly the most consistent I'd say.First there was Feel Good, Feel Right, which was discussed here quite a bit (this might have started sneaking on to radio in late 2010 actually, I get muddled with things).More recently Beautiful, her tune with Eastwood, has been doing the round a lot, and it's ace:http://soundcloud.com/djeastwood/beautiful-radio-rip(Hope this one doesn't take too much of an age to come out). And towards the slightly housier end of things there's been her tunes with DJ Whitecoat, first How Does It Feel:http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/how-does-it-feel/id442728861and now Riddim (Stay Over):http://www.junodownload.com/products/riddim-stay-over/1874738-02/which has been a real grower for me.
― Mr Andy M, Thursday, 5 January 2012 20:08 (fourteen years ago)
Think at first I was more impressed by her talent for picking good beats to sing on than I was particularly excited about her actual singing, but her voice has kind of wormed its way under my skin. I'm hopeless at describing vocal styles, but I guess I'd say that to me her way of singing sounds very controlled, distanced even - a lot less warm-blooded than the norm for the scene - but in a way that really works well.
― Mr Andy M, Thursday, 5 January 2012 20:12 (fourteen years ago)
so can anybody identify this tune?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_TeeojliiY
― rrrivero, Monday, 16 January 2012 02:13 (fourteen years ago)
Fans of the BBC TV soap Eastenders will no doubt have noticed the atrocious youth identification character 'Fatboy' has dropped not one but two old-school UK funky references in as many episodes - one being Heads Shoulders Knees & Toes and other being Donaeo's Bounce, which surely only three people in the entire country picked up on.

New one from Champion featuring Princess Nyah! Terror Danjah / D.O.K. Remix as well!
― Mercer Finn, Tuesday, 31 January 2012 21:06 (fourteen years ago)
Haha I didn't even know the vocalist on "Crazy" was Princess Nyah.
I find the narrative of the song really distracting every time I hear it? The details are so odd:
- she hooks up with him because he guesses she's 25 years old? I had assumed Nyah was younger than that.
- if she didn't know he was seeing someone else, why did she tell him to keep it on the low?
- were they actually seeing each other through the six months that rolled by?
- is she actually obsessed with him or pissed off about being yelled at by his girlfriend?

Hard House Banton gives away free tune called Capoira:http://www.factmag.com/2012/01/29/hardhouse-banton-capoira-el-general/Extremely enjoyable cheesy latin vibes on this one.
― Mr Andy M, Friday, 3 February 2012 16:29 (fourteen years ago)
Why haven’t you released anything yet?
Mad One: We stay away from the leakage department.
Murdz: That’s why there’s such a mystery. People say they hear our tracks but they don’t see us or know how they can hear our stuff.
Do you like that? The fact people know little about you but know your music?
Mad One: To be honest, before I get myself in a situation where I’m just handing my tunes to anyone and it’s getting leaked all over the place, I’d rather know who’s got my stuff. We’re just protecting ourselves. Look at House Girls Part One, it’s done well, and I’m grateful ‘cos that got us on the map, but it’s been leaked.

surprised no one's posted this rudimental single, it's gorgeous
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9iZh5lV13M&ob=av3e
"deep in the valley" from last year got overlooked too, absolute banger
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkwCYNaUIK0
― lex pretend, Friday, 16 March 2012 16:41 (fourteen years ago)
I'm sure there's talk about "Deep In The Valley" somewhere upthread, "banger" is right.
"Spoons" is very lovely though, yes, hadn't heard it before now.
Rudimental seemed to be threatening to switch to dubstep for a moment there, it wasn't a very good look for them. I hope this means they've come to their senses.
The fact that funky these days often seems to sound either like EBTG's Temperamental or Darqwan circa 2002 is kinda indicative. It's like, the faultline that ran along the genre for its entire golden era finally split apart.
― Tim F, Friday, 16 March 2012 20:13 (fourteen years ago)
Lex I think you would really like this Gorgon City EP:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSP-aCkwEcc&feature=relmfu
All three tracks are insane and utterly different from one another.
― Tim F, Friday, 16 March 2012 20:25 (fourteen years ago)
(the Kidnap Kid EP also on Black Butter is amazing also, but I probably wouldn't describe it as uk funky - more of a post Joy Orbison shuffly house kind of thing I guess)
― Tim F, Friday, 16 March 2012 20:31 (fourteen years ago)
^Thanks for the heads-up on Spoons and the Gorgon City EP folks. Rubi Dan & Navigator over The Crypt sound great.
― Mr Andy M, Friday, 16 March 2012 21:39 (fourteen years ago)
Fairly confident that it won't be everyone's cup of tea, but Spray That by DJ Tazer is a bit of a personal fave at the momement - 3rd track on the Avalanche EP, here:http://www.junodownload.com/products/avalanche-ep/1912951-02/

Coz yeah "Royal Rumble" and "Warrior" are respectively the hardest and hugest tunes ever.

One of the saddest things for me is being Facebook friends with Scotty D, whose work was so hard to follow in his crucial 2008 - 2009 period, and now he posts a DJ mix every couple of days it seems and releases EPs and the like and it's all deep house or tech-house tunes that are fine enough but could come from anyone.
― Tim F, Tuesday, 20 March 2012 22:04 (fourteen years ago)
This from the guy who did "Liberty" and "Dream"! And (I suspect) heaps of other tunes that I only ever heard in the mix, doomed to be forgotten by everyone except me.
