I was disapointed Petchy kinda fell off and went all regular house, when he spins the funky bits he still has a good vibe going though. Plus his MCs are the best when it comes to riding funky for me. No idea why he just kinda dropped off like that.

The Funkystepz mix from Boiler Room yp thread prob... he sounded a lot tighter in the mix.

I'm feeling that last track too, can't place it right now though.

Hehe there's a few shaky moments in the Funkystepz mix for sure.
I kind of agree that the MCs are the main strength of the Petchy set and that tune-wise it only really comes alive for the last few.

Heaps! They've really addressed this issue over the past 18 months or so with a series of EP releases. Plus most of their remixes are officially released.

Royal Rumble EP out next month! Finally I will have "Warrior" (and the title track) in full.

I think they're kinda over that 2009-ish rolling snares sound, they think it's dated or something.

A shame, as it's their finest vocal tune!!

i like the fact that they're releasing things but their mixes are astonishing.. the guest mix @ fireworks is my favorite by them, so high energy

Yeah I think increasingly their sound is boiling down to <ridiculously colourful and convoluted hopskotch patterns around a 4X4 groove> such that itheir tunes sound best piled together in two minute stretches one after the other, rather than in discrete 5 minute settings.

I really enjoy Funkystepz, I think they're some of the best producers aroiund today, not just in UK Funky, but in any genre. It's almost ridiculous how many good tunes they have,and they continue to put out a steady stream of great mixes, EPs, remixes, and refixes. I also wanted to mention Scufizzer. Scrufizzer was one of the original members of Funkystepz, they've done a couple of collabrations with him, and plan and doing more. Some of you have probably heard Fizzy Flow, produced by Renay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bgYwvLthyM . I heard this on DJ Target's show, I could only find this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLgIvobZlKA. These tracks are heavy and grimey, but still have that bubbly. effervescent Funkystepz sound, and Scrufizzer is talented enough to not be overwhelmed by their beats.

Almost forgot. Their remix of Drake's "Motto" is up for download on their soundcloud, it's quite good! Does anyone know where I can hear "Lovers". I've heard it hyped up a lot on this thread, but I got into Funky after Funkystepz had their Rinse.FM show, so I've never gotten to hear this fabled track. If anyone has any of their old radio sets with "Lovers" that they could post, I'd be very grateful!

Much thanks for that Tracer! "Lovers" is a big tune, very nice, but I can see Funkystepz's point about it not fitting in with their newer aesthetic. Maxsin mentioned on Target's show that they make something like 10 new tracks per WEEK! I can't imagine all the gems of theirs that will never get a proper release.

Those 1xtra mixes are big! Hopefully Funkystepz put up the final DJ Target guest mix on their soundcloud. It's an instrumental mix, and like the others, it's really good. It has a couple of new instrumental tracks as well. With all the new instrumentals they've premiered in these mixes, like XTC, Radar, Mondo Bizarro etc., they have easily enough material to put out a killer EP every 2-3 months throughout 2012. They get plenty of love here and on dissensus, but I wonder when they will start to get some attention from the mainstream?

I have just discovered "Circles" (I know, very very belatedly) and it is making me very happy, not just a perfect house track but a brilliant pop song.

"warrior" is such a banger but i always prefer their remixes to their instrumental tunes (same goes for ill blu too)

I think this is their strongest EP yet.

Even though "Jigga" is a bit "I see what you did there" it's hard not to love their sheer gumption - who else would even attempt it?
