i honestly like riff raff way more than gucci mane

i just think he's more amusing than any gucci stuff i ever heard, i think i listened to one of the "classic" gucci tapes a few times

sure his humor was part of it but he was a lot more multi-dimensional than riff raff

like, who the fuck is riff raff? there's no story here, no background, its just joeks

never mind that his rap style is pretty much jacked from other artists, u cant deny gucci was a genuine original

not saying you cant prefer to listen to riff raff, there's obv reasons why i can see someone preferring to listen to him, but if we're talking about quality gucci was easily the bigger artist

the thing i've started to love about riff raff is how a lot of the time (even in his recorded songs) he straight up doesn't even try and make sense, he just puts rhyming and/or saying something cool above everything... like "eating coogi salad / grape stains on the baggage" or whatever, or in the freestyle when he says something like "i got silk ghosts... bob hope" or "'saces on my care bearski". his whole existence is so knowingly ridiculous that it allows him to create these absurd images and scenarios (shaking dice with larry bird in barcelona) that heighten his natural abilities as a writer.

btw i love that he's living in vegas. he should never leave there.

man literally just yesterday i was wondering when ol ship was gonna stumble upon our dear thread

i'd been staring at the thread title with a confused dog expression for a few months

i'm sort of stuck on how serious he is vs. being kind of an oddball comedy schtick

like hanging out w.andy milonakis kinda makes me wonder, plus that "skit" where he's in "brazil"

his music is serious to some degree... that's why it's listenable, and clearly he's talented, as least as a writer. but yeah there's a lot of lil b meme generator in there, not sure how much tho. that's kinda the fun tho.

yeah i sort of enjoy the goofiness either way on a comedy level and a "real" level to a degree.

i like that he *really* freestyles, which hardly anyone does anymore.

like i said, even if it's like some kinda weird lonely island but more serious bit, i honestly enjoy it more than gucci mane, who basically does nothing for me personally.

well gucci, for instance, was always kind of goofy and playful (which ppl mistook for ignorance & stupidity) but it mostly augmented the appeal of him as a street rapper... he appealed to jeezy & t.i. fans, but he clearly was his own character. riff raff to me kind of flips the scales... he's clearly working off the template of guys like gucci or even chamillionaire, but where they were "street and lyrical but also playful and funny" riff is "playful and funny and kinda street and lyrical"

i don't see much lonely island or milonakis on him at all. he def tries to meme it up but i don't think there's a ton of irony there.

his verse on that kid sister song is so, so dope

oh i think theres tons of irony there but more like the way lil b is funny than the way lonely island is funny
