Harmonia reunited in 2007 and performed live for the first time since 1976, opening the Worldtronics Festival at the at Haus der Weltkulturen in Berlin, Germany on November 27, 2007.[1][2]

Harmonia will make their first live appearance in the UK on 18th April 2008. They will play on the opening night of the Ether Festival in the Queen Elizabeth Hall at Southbank Centre, London

Harmonia. Oh man. This is getting more and more tempting.

Saw tickets were on sale for the LA MBV show. Ticketmaster is charging $48.00 (+ undisclosed "convenience" charge). Kevin Shields needs a new pair of shoes.

Bill in Chicago, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 20:07 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, it's tempting. I'd really be interested to find out who the other 9 bands are - that could really make it or break it for me. But of course I may not have time for that.

Reatards Unite, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 20:33 (eighteen years ago)

Oh no, I would expect tickets to sell out in a day or two, max.

stephen, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 20:52 (eighteen years ago)

and re: Harmonia, this is basically their second live performance since 1976 ??

stephen, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 20:53 (eighteen years ago)

ah wait, third.

stephen, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 20:53 (eighteen years ago)

Fuck when does NYC go on sale! I need to set approx. 8 billion reminders.

About what I would expect. Mmf. Still thinking about this.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 21:03 (eighteen years ago)

Chicago is only $38. The problem is that the venue is the Aragon which is an awful place. Poor acoustics, no sight lines. Whatever. Fuck it. I'm there.

So all fees included, we're talking $65.00 or so? Also, I haven't been to the SMCC since the mid 90's, but I keep hearing bad things about the sound there.

Lolpez, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 22:16 (eighteen years ago)

eek thats pricey. i suppose its worth it? i hope they can still rock as good as ive heard they did!

silkworm exploding, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 22:23 (eighteen years ago)

Tickets are not on sale for SMCC yet. I thought I wasn't excited, but I am now.

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 22:25 (eighteen years ago)

I'm still (surprisingly?) meh. I don't know. Something about this whole thing feels off.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 22:57 (eighteen years ago)

hooray for two roseland dates.

Creeztophair, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 23:09 (eighteen years ago)

xpost,

I think it's just the obvious thing of Kevin Shields playing a guitar. I can't imagine a more compelling reason to go out unless it involves Robots in a Pyramid.

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 23:16 (eighteen years ago)

That should be the inevitable Snakes on a Plane sequel title!

Built to Spill perfecting things at Joshua Tree, with Camper Van

gabbneb, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 00:21 (eighteen years ago)

Ned, you oughta at least go to one date. Just so you don't regret it afterwards, if everyone says it was out of this world. C'mon!

stephen, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 03:28 (eighteen years ago)

Ned, get me a ticket for the second L.A. show. If this ends up happening, I'm coming down for that show. I'll paypal you the $$$ this week.

Mackro Mackro, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 03:32 (eighteen years ago)

Chicago roadtrip sounds nice.

Tape Store, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 03:43 (eighteen years ago)

Also, I haven't been to the SMCC since the mid 90's, but I keep hearing bad things about the sound there.

The Civic is a big old concrete box with SHIT SHIT SHIT sound. Honestly, I thought they stopped booking shows there long ago - like maybe the early 90s or so. Either way, last show I saw there was Joe Strummer touring for Earthquake Weather.

Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 04:27 (eighteen years ago)

Honestly, they could combine both shows into the Nokia theater and still sell out.

Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 04:28 (eighteen years ago)

Something about this whole thing feels off.

I just wish I knew what we were all getting ourselves into before pulling the trigger on tickets. Apart from Kevin's "we aren't playing Coachella because we wouldn't be ready yet" comment there's been zero. Hell, I'd settle for a single blurry cameraphone clip of a rehearsal.

Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 04:40 (eighteen years ago)

how could this POSSIBLY suck?

akm, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 04:54 (eighteen years ago)

Pride goeth.

Mackro and I were talking on the phone just now and yeah, I'll buy tickets and all, but Elvis T. is articulating my thoughts more clearly here.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 05:12 (eighteen years ago)

"it's better to regret something you HAVE done than to regret something you HAVEN'T done, and by the way..."

Mackro Mackro, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 05:36 (eighteen years ago)

My Butthole Valentine

And you KNOW that would be brilliant.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 05:54 (eighteen years ago)

Psychic...Pedalless...Another Band's Sac

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 05:55 (eighteen years ago)

OK ya if Gibby and Kevin did a jam I would cross continents and pay many dimes to see that. xpost

Trayce, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 05:55 (eighteen years ago)

how could this POSSIBLY suck?

I don't expect it to suck at all - hell, the only thing that's capable of matching the spindizzy going into these shows is Kevin's attention to detail and that's really the only reason why I'm going. What's nagging me though, especially after the ATP announcement (fuck, why don't they go ahead and just put Butthole Surfers and Pavement on the bill) is the predictability of it all. In other words:

"You Made Me Realize" crowd reaction 1992: "HOLYFUCKINGSHITITSSOLOUDICANTMOVETHINKGAARRAAGGHH"
"You Made Me Realize" crowd reaction 2008: "Dude it's the part where it gets loud and crazy! I'm going to blog about all this via my iPhone. OK, I'm going to go get a beer"

If I want to hear "Loveless," I can pull out the album anytime. What I really want to see live is the crazy intensity that made their shows so infamous back in the day. I'd be much more excited about things if they loaded up on military-grade infrasonics and began the set by announcing "This is a song we stopped working on in 1994" and broke into a half-hour of demolition jungle.

Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 06:08 (eighteen years ago)

I don't want museum exhibits!

Elvis Telecom, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 06:12 (eighteen years ago)

^ THIS

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 06:14 (eighteen years ago)

This is why I didn't bother seeing the Pixies when they toured last year, though it would appear I was remiss in doing so. So I dunno.

Trayce, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 06:18 (eighteen years ago)

yeah you didn't miss much

braveclub, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 09:22 (eighteen years ago)

Well, put it this way: I went and saw the Velvet Underground, and I'm glad I did. It was great at the time, but listen back to the tape and it's underwhelming.

Oh, and by the way, they'll be playing the 7" version of "You made me realise"...

Mark G, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 09:27 (eighteen years ago)

Now that OM has been announced I'm pretty much ready to buy tickets. Another band I've really wanted to see for a bit.

Anyone know if I would be able to sell my tickets if I absolutely needed to? I'll be in school in September and I'm sure I can take a weekend off but just in the event that I couldn't make it. I know they're being pretty strict on scalping and everything which is understandable.

Reatards Unite, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 12:43 (eighteen years ago)

Roseland 9/22 show goes on sale Friday at 10. Ticketing website actually provides an Outlook calendar entry you can download which is all kinds of twisted.

hehehe

I'm definitely (making an attempt at) buying a ticket, but that exactly the thing. They could do that back then and that must have been great, and we're all expecting the same thing now. Whatever they do will be great, but I hope they aren't all stiff. And I hope at Roseland they can blow our brains out with their guitars.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 14:58 (eighteen years ago)

I'm listening to the Glider EP right now. It sounds really good.

tylerw, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 15:15 (eighteen years ago)

hah, $52 for Roseland, I'll keep my '92 show memories, I guess.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 15:33 (eighteen years ago)

lucky

silkworm exploding, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

I understand the skepticism, but the new Portishead album has completely renewed my faith in formerly great bands that vanish for a decade and return better than ever.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 16:02 (eighteen years ago)

So, they're remastering the albums too now! I have mixed feelings about there being no extra material... On one hand I can still feel proud to have all of the out of print EPs and make my friends jealous, but on the other hand, having those remastered and put on as bonuses would be nice too...

So, assuming i get a ticket to the L.A. show #2:

Given the huge history of failed promises on MBV's part for the last 17 years, I'm going in assuming this MBV reunion will be like the Black Flag reunion, if this happens.

On the other hand, I'll be visiting momz that 4-day weekend. I'll be seeing a whole bunch of friends at the show I haven't seen in ages coming from all over Southern California. And I don't need a ride from a friend for this. I can bus over there and cab back, thanks to this being in Santa Monica. Shrug.

Elvis OTM all over the place, although as a minor counterpoint, I think it will be cool to see the MBV relic in a 2008 audience, even if it's predictable. People will still have reactions they don't expect to the You Made Me Realise blowout -- *if* they do that song -- *if* they manage to actually execute this tour -- *if* etc. Best case scenario is MBV pulling out stuff they never did before, tho.

I'm more concerned about other details, like no comfirmation of Colm being in this, and the fragility of it all, going back to the failed promises thing.

Mackro Mackro, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

Yes I just saw Big Dipper after their 15+ year hiatus and they were so tight and absolutely rocked. So its possible!

silkworm exploding, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

It's official - I'm going to ATP NY. Anyone have any idea how many "batches" of tickets they're going to release?

Reatards Unite, Wednesday, 7 May 2008 17:59 (eighteen years ago)

I look forward to the debate on whether the masters are too loud or not. Seems about 50/50 that they will make them sound worse, judging by how these things usually go.
