STORMS

Sundar, Friday, 8 June 2007 22:40 (nineteen years ago)

another example of a nicks song that could go on forever

creme1, Friday, 8 June 2007 23:32 (nineteen years ago)

i chose Never Make Me Cry

chaki, Saturday, 9 June 2007 00:36 (nineteen years ago)

saaaaaaaaara

i majorly dig the outtake version on the reissue too with all the blather about being a cleaning lady

electricsound, Saturday, 9 June 2007 01:02 (nineteen years ago)

It's "That's All For Everyone," by light years.

Yup.

Naive Teen Idol, Saturday, 9 June 2007 02:19 (nineteen years ago)

Over and Over followed by Honey Hi. Over and Over has a plaintive and nostalgic feel, yet is lyrically straight-forward in a way that sets you up for the madness and disfunction to come. And what can I say, I'm a sucker for McVie.

On Camper's version, I'd go with Storms followed by Tusk. I think that CVB actually played Storms with more soul and tension than Nicks could muster, especially benefitting from the addition of the violin. Their Tusk went into jarring depths of estrangement that Buckingham could only hint at.

From both albums, I like Walk a Thin Line equally.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Saturday, 9 June 2007 05:45 (nineteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Saturday, 9 June 2007 23:01 (nineteen years ago)

Thank you, ILX System. Don't forget to vote for "That's All For Everyone" like I told you.

Rock Hardy, Saturday, 9 June 2007 23:10 (nineteen years ago)

NEVER FORGET. VOTE NOW.

Bimble, Saturday, 9 June 2007 23:14 (nineteen years ago)

I think it was Douglas Wolk on the Tusk thread who remarked on the guts it took to open a double album with a meandering ballad. And to think that it's followed by "The Ledge"!

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 9 June 2007 23:24 (nineteen years ago)

i like "over and over" - it's sad and the guitar is wonderfull but the song itself seems to end too soon, while the instruments just playing forever.(with some "over and over" at the back)too bad, cause it could be perfect, for me at least

Zeno, Saturday, 9 June 2007 23:39 (nineteen years ago)

Fleetwood's drumming on "Over and Over" -- in the last minute or so -- is absolutely brilliant.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 9 June 2007 23:44 (nineteen years ago)

the results here will be intersting, i have no clue what will be the best track, and it looks like the votes will more or less be divided equally between most of the songs

Zeno, Saturday, 9 June 2007 23:53 (nineteen years ago)

And to think that it's followed by "The Ledge"!

Yeah, the effect is something like "la, la, la, la...wait, dude...what?" The Ledge would benefit from a jew's harp or a washboard. I always picture Lindsey in overalls and a straw hat singing this song.

I also like to imagine it getting played at some frat party back in '79, and when the Ledge comes on they get all pissed, take the record off the turntable, throw it out the window, and listen to "Off the Wall" instead. Everybody gets laid and "Tusk" becomes a "lost classic."

kingkongvsgodzilla, Sunday, 10 June 2007 00:06 (nineteen years ago)

"That's All For Everyone," which I choose for the melody and best vocal overdubbing imaginable. But it barely wins over "Save Me a Place," "Over and Over," and "What Makes You Think You're the One."

ILM in Tusk obsession shockah!

Jiminy Krokus, Sunday, 10 June 2007 00:25 (nineteen years ago)

No love for "Storms" so I'm voting that, even though, as illustrated here, this is an impossible poll and Tusk is a masterpiece.

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Sunday, 10 June 2007 20:40 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, and I voted "Storms" because of the way Stevie sings "and I did not deal with you, I know..." - goosebumps every time!

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Sunday, 10 June 2007 20:41 (nineteen years ago)

'over and over' lovers MUST check out the beautiful version on 1980's Fleetwood Mac Live

stevie, Sunday, 10 June 2007 20:55 (nineteen years ago)

Ah hell, you guys have got me rooting for Over & Over now! I'll have to listen to that live version, thanks.

Bimble, Sunday, 10 June 2007 21:11 (nineteen years ago)

I think this is the first poll where I'll agree with whatever wins.

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 10 June 2007 21:51 (nineteen years ago)

I know! When folks were mentioning Storms, it was real hard to keep quiet. That song kindof haunts me for weeks after playing it.

Bimble, Sunday, 10 June 2007 21:58 (nineteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Sunday, 10 June 2007 23:01 (nineteen years ago)

And Sarah is #1, as it should be.

I was embarrassed after casting my vote for not voting that.

Still, Over & Over is the be all end all, isn't? What the hell is wrong with these Buckingham freaks who ruin this poll until "Storms" makes an appearance.

Bimble, Sunday, 10 June 2007 23:23 (nineteen years ago)

Bimble, Sunday, 10 June 2007 23:30 (nineteen years ago)

"What Makes You Think You're The One" and "Never Forget" should be higher.

Tim F, Sunday, 10 June 2007 23:41 (nineteen years ago)

"I Know I'm Not Wrong" is my 10th or 11th favorite song on the album.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Sunday, 10 June 2007 23:48 (nineteen years ago)

Bless you, Alfred.

Bimble, Sunday, 10 June 2007 23:52 (nineteen years ago)

"thats enough for me" is a great song, he should got much higher than 0 votes - those fast country guitars...

plus - "not that funny" and "what makes you think:" should be much higher too.
there are some songs there that i tend to skip all the time, and i really don't know them that well (angel, honey i , never gorget)

Zeno, Sunday, 10 June 2007 23:57 (nineteen years ago)

I'm surprised by the "Sara" fandom. I created a thread a couple of years ago and got good-to-meh responses.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 11 June 2007 00:00 (eighteen years ago)

It's "sea of love," Bimble, not city.

Rock Hardy, Monday, 11 June 2007 00:46 (eighteen years ago)

I'm only surprised by how high "Tusk" ended up - if there's a skippable song on the album, that's the one

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Monday, 11 June 2007 00:52 (eighteen years ago)

THREE? THREE?!

Sundar, Monday, 11 June 2007 01:23 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think I'm enough of an adult - or a contemporary, for that matter - to understand what people find so special about Sara.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 11 June 2007 01:42 (eighteen years ago)

It's got nothing to do with being adult or contemporary -- it's spectral, subversive, obscure.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 11 June 2007 01:49 (eighteen years ago)

See, I can't hear the subversion. And I admit this opinion is probably entirely a failing on my behalf, seeing as the consensus seems to favor it overwhelming, but I prefer every Nicks song on the album to Sara.

I think that one of my main complaints is that, for whatever reason, the piano riff sounds to me like the theme song for some sitcom that I can't quite put my finger on.

I'll have to put this one on repeat.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 11 June 2007 03:03 (eighteen years ago)

I can't believe I was the only vote for "Honey Hi."

ian, Monday, 11 June 2007 03:27 (eighteen years ago)

Likewise with "Over and Over."

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 11 June 2007 03:36 (eighteen years ago)

ONE vote for Over & Over??? Say it isn't so! That is WRONG

Bimble, Monday, 11 June 2007 03:38 (eighteen years ago)

Christine didn't get a fair shake in general, in my opinion.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 11 June 2007 03:39 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, when I show up at your houses with my Christine picket signs, you won't be happy.

Bimble, Monday, 11 June 2007 03:40 (eighteen years ago)

This may help, king kong.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 11 June 2007 11:59 (eighteen years ago)

Please don't picket me, I voted for "Brown Eyes."

The Deacon, Monday, 11 June 2007 13:55 (eighteen years ago)

t/s: brown eyes v. emerald eyes

elmo argonaut, Monday, 11 June 2007 14:04 (eighteen years ago)

"Tusk"!!! WTF.

Steve Shasta, Monday, 11 June 2007 19:38 (eighteen years ago)

I'm surprised so many people are taken aback by how well "Tusk" did. I have pretty close to zero tolerance for any Fleetwood Mac outside of "Tusk" which I've loved since I was a kid.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 11 June 2007 22:58 (eighteen years ago)

"Tusk" is a special song, and I think it holds up well today.

Bimble, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 01:31 (eighteen years ago)

"Walk a Thin Line" (Buckingham) – 3:48 4

^wtf

only 4??

sleep, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

I can't understand love for Christine McVie's songs, shit is boring.

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 15:55 (eighteen years ago)

Christine McVie is like the endpoint minimal techno of Fleetwood Mac: you come around to her after you're exhausted/burnt out on everything else and she suddenly sounds like the best thing ever.

Tim F, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 15:59 (eighteen years ago)

Fleetwood Nac, there you go. Brillaint.

Bimble, Sunday, 15 July 2007 15:52 (eighteen years ago)

Look, this live 1980 thing as almost as good as heroin, I imagine. Don't deprive yourself.

Bimble, Sunday, 15 July 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

That's very good, but you're not telling me anything else about it!

I know, right?, Sunday, 15 July 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

And I care, I really do!

YOU CAN GO YOUR OWN WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU CAN CALL IT ANOTHER LONELY DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111

Bimble, Sunday, 15 July 2007 16:01 (eighteen years ago)

Dude, there's only like 4 other bands as good as Fleetwood Mac in the whole world. Serious.

Bimble, Sunday, 15 July 2007 16:02 (eighteen years ago)

I KNOW FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEEEEEEEEEASE TELL ME WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!

Back on topic, how did "That's all for everyone" place second? It's easily the worst track.

robertwolf8080, Sunday, 15 July 2007 18:00 (eighteen years ago)

Uhh, missed this one. My vote for "Walk A Thin line" went missing too :(

THANKYOU! Its Lindsey's worst at least.

same planet, different worlds

Dominique, Sunday, 15 July 2007 18:22 (eighteen years ago)

*meanwhile on the same planet: man goes n'orders 'hmself a christine mcvie solo album*

t**t, Sunday, 15 July 2007 18:27 (eighteen years ago)

Sara??? seriously? I like at least 8 songs on Tusk for than that one (basically all of Lindsey's). I'm sad that "That's Enough for Me" got the goose egg. And "Save Me a Place" with 1 vote? What is this world coming to?

will, Sunday, 15 July 2007 18:42 (eighteen years ago)

Think About Me, am I the only one squarely annoyed by this song? A lot of it may have to do with the production on it, I don't think Buckingham really got this one. At all.

This song is fabulous, one of those great Christine-Lindsey collabs that melds his talent for subversion with her melodic smarts and sexual heat. I just love how the guitar sounds, especially after the second chorus. John does his trademark rock-steady thumping until he plays a few extra notes as the guitar plays major chords. As for the chorus, it's one of those Bernard Sumner-esque moments of lucidity that looks stupid on paper ("I don't hold you down/Maybe that's why you're around") but accrues more meaning when you don't separate it from the arrangement.

It took me a while to warm to this song (it was the third single too), but now it's probably Christine's best punchy rocker.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Sunday, 15 July 2007 19:33 (eighteen years ago)

I think what is great about that couplet is the fact that both singers sound like they only realise the second line after they've sung the first. It's fabulous.

That said "What Makes You Think You're The One" is the song most cruelly robbed by this poll.
