They/He =Rubbish. BUT...the thought that the once mighty Hurrah! inspired something so lame as Sarah Recds is disturbing. Say it ain't so.

I usually tend to go for songs as opposed to bands nowadays I must admit I don't do this in general, but the range of songs on the compilation I mentioned is such that it is difficult to imagine anyone liking all of them, though I can of course imagine someone liking none of them heh heh. I thinking I spotted the compilation album in a bargain bin some five or so years ago and it was one of those albums which I played once and forgot about, then "rediscovered" and found that it had a strange appeal. I had heard "Big Sky New Light" (which actually came out in 92, tho I still think of MS&D as an eighties band) once on Annie Nightingale and really liked the guitar on it and I probably bought the tape on the strength of that. My favourite song after that is "There Comes a Time", Martin sings well on it, the drum which starts part way through has a rather miltiary feel to it and works effectively. Of the other songs, some seem very country and "Salutation Road" reminds me of all kindsa stuff, including Alan Price and Van Morrison.

So it would appear that MS does indeed do what he likes....

I love the lyrics of "Little Red Bottle"..."a drunk is a man who is stronger by far than any teetotal would have you believe"

both classic and dud. he's a lovely man, very funny and has a lovely voice. often, he writes lovely songs, but equally often, he turns out a bag o shite.

personally, i prefer the stuff he did with the daintees to the later projects, which tend to get a bit self-indulgent. boat to bolivia is probably my favourite, and also happens to be the most country-n- western sounding stuff. i hope that's only a coincidence.

Hi

I am managing Martin now so was really interested in all your comments.

You are right - MS does his own thing and he took a conscious decision to move away from the industry and take the B and C roads instead.

For your info Martin has a website - www.martin-stephenson.co.uk and a very friendly egroup martin-stephenson-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

Martin's new album will be released in June - entitled Collective Force it features a whole host of duifferent styles and TOP musicians.

Feel free to contact me for further details.

Thanks
