GIS "Phil Spector eats money" returns some... unpleasant results

this is kind of a separate-but-related question - how does one format embedded pics so they're all of a uniform size? cuz I will be needing to do a lot of GISing for the results, presumably.

At tinypic.com you have the option to resize pictures. But that means you first have to download them, and then upload them to TinyPic. I don't think the forum software lets you resize pictures in the HTML code.

ArchCarrier, Thursday, 29 September 2011 08:04 (fourteen years ago)

How about restricting your GIS to 'exactly' a specific size?

Mark G, Thursday, 29 September 2011 08:22 (fourteen years ago)

Set up a new photobucket account/album, save all your pictures to there and then edit them? At least you know they're all going to show up properly then.

master musicians of jamiroquai (NickB), Thursday, 29 September 2011 08:25 (fourteen years ago)

Uhhhhhhhhhhhh, Can? This is ILM isn't it?

Juice Should Be Sterliized (Tom D.), Thursday, 29 September 2011 08:51 (fourteen years ago)

I mean, what's gone wrong here?

Juice Should Be Sterliized (Tom D.), Thursday, 29 September 2011 08:52 (fourteen years ago)

Everyone would send in the exact same ballot.

Mark G, Thursday, 29 September 2011 08:57 (fourteen years ago)

I really doubt that very much

Juice Should Be Sterliized (Tom D.), Thursday, 29 September 2011 08:58 (fourteen years ago)

Steely Dan?

gospodin simmel, Thursday, 29 September 2011 09:36 (fourteen years ago)

i think there'll almost HAVE to be a nominations thread just to hash out stuff like producers vs. engineers, artists who only produced themselves, people who are chiefly remixers, producers who've worked extensively as a team or individually, etc.

― dogps (some dude), Wednesday, August 10, 2011 9:30 PM (1 month ago) Bookmark

shakey i'd like to reiterate that you are in for so many headaches if you don't clarify this stuff really carefully and maybe let people debate certain inclusions or exclusions a little bit before voting even starts.

wes2gully (some dude), Thursday, 29 September 2011 11:11 (fourteen years ago)

Right, because I'm still not sure if we're voting for producers, or songs produced by certain producers, or all songs ever produced in the history of recorded music...

ArchCarrier, Thursday, 29 September 2011 11:52 (fourteen years ago)

We're voting for the producers themselves -- like, my shortlist of noms would include Teo Macero, Lee Perry, Jim Dickinson -- off the top of my head...

Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Thursday, 29 September 2011 13:00 (fourteen years ago)

We're voting for the producers themselves

^^^this. the "team" thing is tricky but I don't really know why anyone would want to vote specifically for Hank Shocklee instead of the Bomb Squad, for example. or Jimmy Jam instead of Terry Lewis. I can't think of any well-regarded production teams that didn't stick together for the most part.

unorthodox economic revenge (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 29 September 2011 15:33 (fourteen years ago)

eno/lanois/lillywhite maybe, but yeah, teams aren't that big a concern, compared to engineers and remixers and self-producing artists (who aren't always billed as producers but obviously are)

wes2gully (some dude), Thursday, 29 September 2011 15:35 (fourteen years ago)

engineers and remixers and self-producing artists (who aren't always billed as producers but obviously are)

these will all count (excluding Albini, for example - which is mentioned upthread somewhere - seems sort of silly the more I thought about it)

unorthodox economic revenge (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 29 September 2011 15:50 (fourteen years ago)

so wait any engineer only ever billed as an engineer can be voted for EXCEPT Albini? that seems kind of spiteful.

wes2gully (some dude), Thursday, 29 September 2011 16:06 (fourteen years ago)

(excluding Albini ... seems sort of silly the more I thought about it)

master musicians of jamiroquai (NickB), Thursday, 29 September 2011 16:08 (fourteen years ago)

No. Excluding Albini on a technicality is what seemed silly.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 29 September 2011 16:09 (fourteen years ago)

oh ok the way that sentence was phrased confused me

wes2gully (some dude), Thursday, 29 September 2011 16:10 (fourteen years ago)

apart from Albini - who has been characteristically dickish about his working "title" - I can't really think of any well-known engineers who have not, at one time or another, been credited as producers. I mean who do you have in mind here? Geoff Emerick? one of Eno's studio techs?

unorthodox economic revenge (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 29 September 2011 16:11 (fourteen years ago)

Glad you had a change of heart on that one. Rudy Van Gelder 4 lyfe!

Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Thursday, 29 September 2011 16:15 (fourteen years ago)

should we really count self producing-artists?

gospodin simmel, Thursday, 29 September 2011 16:20 (fourteen years ago)

yeah see Van Gelder should totally qualify - that he's credited as a "recording engineer" rather than a "producer" is a bit of a distinction without a difference.

re: self-producing artists - why not?

unorthodox economic revenge (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 29 September 2011 16:21 (fourteen years ago)

maybe I should just start this fucking thread already

unorthodox economic revenge (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 29 September 2011 16:22 (fourteen years ago)

Clinton counts right?

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Thursday, 29 September 2011 16:42 (fourteen years ago)

No way, he's DQ'd for claiming he didn't inhale.

Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Thursday, 29 September 2011 16:46 (fourteen years ago)

been on a Kate Bush bender lately, lookin forward to that one

unorthodox economic revenge (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 3 October 2011 21:49 (fourteen years ago)

I just sent in my Stevie Wonder ballot and I'm skipping the producers poll.
I have the complete Pulp discography lined up in Foobar, so bring on the discussion thread!

ArchCarrier, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 13:35 (fourteen years ago)

Hah! Pulp discussion thread to come soon! But not today.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:16 (fourteen years ago)

Should the "All Seeing I" album be included in the Pulp ballot?

Mark G, Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:19 (fourteen years ago)

Hmmm. I suppose I shall open it up to side/solo projects, if only to get that magnificent 'Ciao!' to place.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 4 October 2011 15:59 (fourteen years ago)

That's good, there's 3 or 4 songs on Jarvis's debut solo album which will definitely make my list.

The multi-talented F.R. David (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 4 October 2011 16:04 (fourteen years ago)

triffic.

Mark G, Wednesday, 5 October 2011 06:53 (fourteen years ago)

Good to hear! I know Angela will definitely make mine.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 5 October 2011 12:32 (fourteen years ago)

would there be enough ILM love for The Misfits to rally around a ballot poll?

⚓ (gr8080), Wednesday, 5 October 2011 18:46 (fourteen years ago)

Bump for people who keep an eye out for this thread for updates -- the Producers poll is ongoing -- I Wanna Be a POLLducer: The Voting thread for Producers, Recording Engineers, and Studio Wizards -- so go vote!

Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Saturday, 8 October 2011 22:16 (fourteen years ago)

I was toying with R Kelly today. I know little about him, but my impression is he could be fun. Seems silly to commit a year in advance though.

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 8 October 2011 22:22 (fourteen years ago)

Better than committing 18-24 months in advance if a bunch of other people jump in.

Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Saturday, 8 October 2011 22:40 (fourteen years ago)

r. kelly poll would be great

shiroimarkershoes (some dude), Saturday, 8 October 2011 22:44 (fourteen years ago)

Would be a travesty if "I Believe I Could Fly" didn't take the top spot, though. ilxor continuity demands it.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 8 October 2011 22:49 (fourteen years ago)

the space jam ost won the 90s poll purely on the strength of the monstars' anthem though

shiroimarkershoes (some dude), Saturday, 8 October 2011 22:54 (fourteen years ago)

could i vote 'video where he pees in an underage girls mouth' for worst track? also where do you stand trapped in a closet, vote as 1 or 12 individual tracks? aw hell its cool we have a while to think about these things

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Sunday, 9 October 2011 06:33 (fourteen years ago)

That video was credited to someone else aiui.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 9 October 2011 06:53 (fourteen years ago)

Annnnnnd we have a winner for Stevie!

ArchCarrier, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 18:37 (fourteen years ago)

> could i vote 'video where he pees in an underage girls mouth' for worst track?

geez like this would be normal and fine if the girl was older?

Everything else is secondary (Lee626), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 21:53 (fourteen years ago)

are you questioning whether it would be normal or whether i'd be cool with it if she was?

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 22:00 (fourteen years ago)

Oh what the hell, sign me up for R Kelly. Somebody follow up with Destiny's Child + solo tracks and we can have an R&B frenzy that month.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 22:01 (fourteen years ago)

Jay-Z wasn't mentioned in this thread? He might be the only rap act (along with Wu) to fit all the criteria

classic status, large catalog, a lot of "unknown" gems (deep cuts?), unpredictable results, a strong following on ilm

I believe this was discussed during a Timbaland tracks poll

gospodin simmel, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 22:51 (fourteen years ago)

i'm glad you phrased it this way, instead of the Beyonce/DC poll idea that'd been thrown around previously -- definitely need to have Kelly Rowland solo in the mix as well

i'd been on the fence about volunteering to do a Jay-Z poll (or doing a different hip hop poll first) but hey, it'd be fun to do it back to back with Kells, best of both worlds-style. sign me up!
