I mean the chances of either of those increasing in value from that price is effectively zero so you can only assume that someone was actually that desperate to own those CDRs

or they're shill bids for the basic purpose of getting people to post incredulous messages on the internet

the wrong terry to fuckwit (DJ Mencap), Sunday, 25 September 2011 19:07 (fourteen years ago)

good stuff, thanks

nostormo, Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:00 (fourteen years ago)

brilliant stuff.

"Kinda weird when you WANT to give your money to a band / label, and they sorta make it impossible."

this is what makes me avoid getting too into cool metal/hardcore. I have some broke ass friends in thrall to labels who do this.

owenf, Sunday, 25 September 2011 22:51 (fourteen years ago)

Listening for the third time. Why does this record have to rule so hard? I was hoping I'd draw the conclusion that it was one-note and sorta not worth keeping on the want list in light of the collector scum bullshit, but dammit, "Ritual Knife" came on and I was all "fuck."

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Monday, 26 September 2011 18:28 (fourteen years ago)

somebody actually bought them? That's fucked up

Exactly. The people purchasing these things are the real problem, imho, because it only encourages labels (and bands) to pull this shit again in the future.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 26 September 2011 19:03 (fourteen years ago)

Why does this record have to rule so hard?

OTM.

I have no idea why but I love it.

Young Swell (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 26 September 2011 19:12 (fourteen years ago)

afaik its getting a 3rd cdr press

Young Swell (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 26 September 2011 19:14 (fourteen years ago)

and id hope the vinyl will get a repress. surely rip-off above will want to make some money

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Monday, 26 September 2011 19:15 (fourteen years ago)

Ok. Why the fuck is this album so fucking hot?

Young Swell (Le Bateau Ivre), Saturday, 1 October 2011 16:41 (fourteen years ago)

rules

owenf, Thursday, 6 October 2011 09:07 (fourteen years ago)

Is this still un-purchase-able?

She Got the Shakes, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 14:24 (fourteen years ago)

aye but im pretty sure a 3rd press of cdr is on the way but no doubt that will sell out in an hour.

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 14:59 (fourteen years ago)

Ugh. Really annoyed with this forced obscurist shit. Want to support these guys.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 15:02 (fourteen years ago)

why? they obviously don't need ppl's charity, this is p much literally the clearest case of illegal downloading being 'acceptable' I've ever seen

the green manalishi (with the big boobies) (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 15:37 (fourteen years ago)

What do you mean by "charity"? Why is it wrong for me to want to legitimately pay for an album that I really enjoy and play the hell out of? Even if these guys do tour to my area, having a newborn at home means I won't be going to the show anytime soon, so this is a good way to throw some support at them. Yes, I've acquired the album for now, but I'd love to pay for a "real" physical version.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 15:40 (fourteen years ago)

it's obviously not 'wrong' but they clearly don't give a shit whether you have a reasonable chance to buy one of their albums or not, so I'd just be inclined to say fuck 'em and burn off a CDR

the green manalishi (with the big boobies) (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 16:05 (fourteen years ago)

This is the least satanic horror bloodsludge metal thing ever said, but the downloads I've heard weren't encoded at a very good bitrate.
Also, what jon said.

wrestlingisreal420 (crüt), Wednesday, 12 October 2011 07:52 (fourteen years ago)

i have it on good authority that the vinyl pressing is really bad and "sounds like shit"

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 22:45 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah I've seen a bunch of complaints about it. Apparently no sleeve either, just a piece of card. As someone above said, sounds like their might be a 3rd CD(r?) pressing, which is good news for those that spent a 3 figure sum on eBay for one of the previous 2.

All this is beginning to take away from the fact it's a great record...sorry, CDr.

Wandering Boy Poet, Thursday, 13 October 2011 12:46 (fourteen years ago)

Damn, I hate their/there mixups, grrrr.

Wandering Boy Poet, Thursday, 13 October 2011 12:46 (fourteen years ago)

This is a really fun record, thanks for the tip.

Ryan, Thursday, 13 October 2011 20:35 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, i've really been enjoying this

what's the Ghost record from last year that the OP mentions?

merked, Thursday, 13 October 2011 20:45 (fourteen years ago)

Opus Eponymous, a really awesome record.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Thursday, 13 October 2011 20:48 (fourteen years ago)

incredible artwork..

will give it a spin, cheers

merked, Thursday, 13 October 2011 20:51 (fourteen years ago)

I liked the Ghost album well enough, what I heard of it, but their live performances are where it's at, mang.

Couple videos here. My daughter loved them. "Look at those great costumes, daddy!"

That's a sick joke, right?

Matt M., Friday, 14 October 2011 00:24 (fourteen years ago)

so how is their "Vol 1" record compared to this?

nostormo, Friday, 14 October 2011 00:27 (fourteen years ago)

Re. Ghost...that Ghost album did nothing whatsoever for me, whereas I love the Uncle Acid CDr. Been a lot of references from one to the other, but beware.

Wandering Boy Poet, Friday, 14 October 2011 12:52 (fourteen years ago)

Huh. That link didn't post in my last up there. Let's try this again.

Matt M., Friday, 14 October 2011 15:14 (fourteen years ago)

It's not bad but I don't see how this is any different from about 9000 other rock albums released since 9-10 years ago.

billstevejim, Saturday, 22 October 2011 00:29 (fourteen years ago)

Svart will reissue the CD starting Nov 16, free shipping. http://www.svartrecords.com/shoppe/725-uncle-acid-and-the-deadbeats-blood-lust-cd.html

Fastnbulbous, Thursday, 3 November 2011 04:51 (fourteen years ago)

billstevejim, if you can name just 10 of those 9000 albums that sound as good as this, I'll be really happy.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Thursday, 3 November 2011 04:59 (fourteen years ago)

^^^ Yeah, me too.

As for the reissue, that didn't take very long, did it? I wonder if those suckers who paid ungodly sums are having a bit of the ol' buyer's remorse?

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Thursday, 3 November 2011 14:11 (fourteen years ago)

Nice! Thanks for the tip - just ordered one.

Re. Ghost...that Ghost album did nothing whatsoever for me, whereas I love the Uncle Acid CDr. Been a lot of references from one to the other, but beware.

My initial reaction is the opposite (love the Ghost, kind of meh on the Uncle Acid), but I agree that liking one doesn't necessarily carry over to the other.

o. nate, Saturday, 5 November 2011 17:57 (fourteen years ago)

didnt say it was. i just meant that non-metal fans who enjoyed the ghost as their one-off might like this album

Thanks for the tip on this. This is wonderful. And I love it in spite of the way it subconsciously makes me think I'm listening to some weird John Lennon album I've never heard before.

Conan The Asshander (Doran), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 00:23 (fourteen years ago)

It would be really awful if you were able to put together a playlist of some of this stuff :) It was my bread and butter for a while there (Trouble, Obsessed, St. Vitus) but sort of fallen away from - would love a primer, if such a thing were possible.

I have a couple playlists I made a few years back:

21st Century Doom

Best of '10s

Other options for bubbling under cult fave rock/metal release from 2013: SubRosa, Avatarium, Fuzz, Windhand, Anciients, Blood Ceremony, Purson, Chris Forsyth, Jex Thoth, Goatess. I also very much liked Spirits of the Dead and Wolf People, but their type of nocturnal psych prog doesn't seem to have wide appeal.

new song. new album.

less metal more psych+glam rock. yessss.

nostormo, Friday, 14 September 2018 15:36 (seven years ago)

New album's good. More rock and less doom suits this band very nicely.

A. Begrand, Friday, 14 September 2018 18:48 (seven years ago)

another tune from the new album.i like it:

I think this new one is my favorite by them. Fantastic cover art too!

crüt, Friday, 9 November 2018 20:16 (seven years ago)

I think it's their best since Blood Lust & Vol 1 for sure.

billstevejim, Saturday, 10 November 2018 05:36 (seven years ago)

I heard the band line up changed massively.
THought i was hearing a lotof glam in the sound early on so more of that would be welcome. Or is that a return to the earlier sound after them having become more metally, think I've not heard a couple.

Stevolende, Saturday, 10 November 2018 07:44 (seven years ago)

it's pretty solid

j., Tuesday, 20 November 2018 04:46 (seven years ago)

I've been getting more mileage out of this one than...maybe any of their other albums, actually

wayne trotsky (Simon H.), Tuesday, 20 November 2018 15:22 (seven years ago)

It took a while, but side two has grown on me in an enormous way. What a terrific album.

The live show for the new one is outstanding, touring the US next month which is your only chance to see it now the European dates are gone. Don't miss it if it's anywhere close.

45 minutes of grindhouse and giallo trailers interspersed with drive-thru ads then a playthrough of the album. Band bolstered by a synth and a sax player.

Overtoun House windows (aldo), Sunday, 2 February 2025 19:20 (one year ago)

Thanks! Been curious to hear how it came across live, I've got tickets for next week.

Do they soundtrack the trailers too?

Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 3 February 2025 15:50 (one year ago)

No, they're just in their drive-in quality glory. There's 2 inserted adverts for the show you're about to see, using a variety of press quotes including the dreadful one from Classic Rock.

Overtoun House windows (aldo), Monday, 3 February 2025 16:28 (one year ago)

Featured a trailer for Case of the Scorpion's Tail that I hadn't seen before, which was completely homaged by one of the film sequences during the show.

Overtoun House windows (aldo), Monday, 3 February 2025 16:30 (one year ago)

Cool, thanks, was just curious about the overall structure of the show. Looking forward to it!

Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 3 February 2025 16:31 (one year ago)

Due to three overlapping and out of my control events last night, I had to miss this and I am absolutely furious.

better than ezra collective soul asylum (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 13 February 2025 14:37 (one year ago)

I saw the Montréal show a few days ago, and it blew me away. Shattered expectations, a clinic in multimedia conceptual progressive rock. The expanded band was outstanding, brought a ton of power and nuance to the album's tracks. I hadn't seen Uncle Acid in 12 years, and wow have they become a terrific live band. Great merch, too, I love how translated librettos are available.

DO NOT miss this tour!

A. Begrand, Thursday, 13 February 2025 18:54 (one year ago)

Salt in the wound dude, salt in the wound! I'm glad it was good though!

better than ezra collective soul asylum (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 13 February 2025 18:59 (one year ago)

I missed it in Chicago too - there's a well-recorded January 27th performance from Muziekgebouw, Kleine Zaal, Eindhoven, Netherlands on d1mead0zen now - probably the same set list and sounds great.
