"headlines" doesn't have clunkers like a lot of his songs but it has a total absence of anything remotely good, which most of his songs at least have a little hint of

otm, totally unmemorable in any way

Ford Cumlord (The Reverend), Wednesday, 28 September 2011 21:59 (fourteen years ago)

i think this is just a well written verse (except for the napkin part obv)

[Verse 1:]
I might be too strung out on compliments
Overdosed on confidence
Started not to give a fuck and stopped fearing the consequence
Drinking every night because we drink to my accomplishments
Faded way too long I'm floating in and out of consciousness
And they sayin' I'm back, I'd agree with that
I just take my time with all this shit, I still believe in that
I had someone tell me I fell off, ohh I needed that
And they wanna see me pick back up, well where'd I leave it at
I know I exaggerated things, now I got it like that
Tuck my napkin in my shirt, cause I'm just mobbin' like that
You know good and well that you don't want a problem like that
You gone make someone around me catch a body like that
No don't do it, please don't do it, cause one of us goes in
And we all go through it
Drizzy got the money, so Drizzy gone pay it
Those my brothers, I ain't even gotta say it
That's just something they know

liked nickis verse though :) (dunno about the lyrics)

niels, Friday, 14 October 2011 09:01 (fourteen years ago)

no i actually like it a lot, it just feels a bit stitched together towards the end

J0rdan S., Friday, 14 October 2011 09:01 (fourteen years ago)

i'm feeling the rhythm sure but i guess i'm looking for something catchy in drake (my mistake?) and this hook doesn't really stick (probably because it's monotonous but maybe that's actually just how drake rolls come to think of it).

niels, Friday, 14 October 2011 09:26 (fourteen years ago)

rubbish

"i'm so i'm so i'm so" is not a fucking chorus

Can I just volunteer that life becomes much easier and more enjoyable when you realize it isn't really worth the time to hate Drake? He's not Chris Brown; there's no moral imperative to despise his music.

I've come to regard him as the Family Guy at this point: He's going to irk me sometimes, he's going to amuse me at others, but since he's everywhere, all the time, I might as well just get used to him.

Evan R, Friday, 27 July 2012 15:08 (thirteen years ago)

if I wanted an easy life I would have sacrificed two years to i-banking when I was in my 20s

keeping things contextual (DJP), Friday, 27 July 2012 15:08 (thirteen years ago)

if he wasn't everywhere all the time why would i need to hate him?

he has amused me NEVER, ftr

lex pretend, Friday, 27 July 2012 15:11 (thirteen years ago)

I do not hate Aubrey graham, I just wish he had never become a rapper

electric point-electric counterpoint (m bison), Friday, 27 July 2012 15:12 (thirteen years ago)

oh sure, i may ask "WHY MUST DRAKE EXIST" but tbh i wouldn't really mind if he existed as, like, an admin assistant in an accountancy firm or something

lex pretend, Friday, 27 July 2012 15:15 (thirteen years ago)

he could take John Legend's old job at Boston Consulting Group

keeping things contextual (DJP), Friday, 27 July 2012 15:16 (thirteen years ago)

Only listened to Take Care once, and I can best compare it to being stoned in some rich friend's house late at night. He's pouring his heart out and even when you want to disagree with something you can't be bothered to speak be this couch is amazing.

da croupier, Friday, 27 July 2012 18:40 (thirteen years ago)

speak because, rather

da croupier, Friday, 27 July 2012 18:41 (thirteen years ago)

that is dead on

Evan R, Friday, 27 July 2012 18:58 (thirteen years ago)

I haven't been this personally invested in thoroughly despising an artist's output regardless of actual quality since... well I was going to say I was a teenager but then I remember R. Kelly

― keeping things contextual (DJP), Friday, July 27, 2012 11:02 AM (5 hours ago)

r kelly?

(i don't get the personal animosity for drake either tbh, his music sucks for the most part but like evan said he's not chris brown or something)

Al S. Burr! (k3vin k.), Friday, 27 July 2012 20:30 (thirteen years ago)

comparing him to people who have big strikes against them as people is apples and oranges, drake's music is all i need to loathe him. i mean ja rule wasn't half as ubiquitous on rap radio as him for half as long and remember how people whined about him being overexposed, i don't know why the world is still putting up with this worthless idiot.

Nutri Grane (some dude), Saturday, 28 July 2012 05:00 (thirteen years ago)

ja rule wasn't half as ubiquitous on rap radio as him for half

wait what? dude was totally ubiquitous for like 5 years

The Reverend, Saturday, 28 July 2012 05:50 (thirteen years ago)

there were 5 years between "Holla Holla" and "Wonderful" but he was only really ubiquitous in the 2 years between "Put It On Me" and "Mesmerize." Ja had 13 top ten R&B hits, Drake has 24 so far.

Nutri Grane (some dude), Saturday, 28 July 2012 11:42 (thirteen years ago)

11 of those Ja hits were in the space of 2 years, i should add.

Nutri Grane (some dude), Saturday, 28 July 2012 11:53 (thirteen years ago)

tbf that was a period when pop radio felt much more ubiquitous imo

New song. Guessing it's the single since it has 2 Chainz and Big Sean verses? I like it, though 2 Chainz is dead weight on this and probably has no business on a beat like this.

Evan R, Friday, 2 August 2013 14:42 (twelve years ago)

i like this a lot. sean's good on it... tity's prob got the least good verse. beat is cool. good for key wane.

Drake declares 'disgust' at Rolling Stone bumping him for Philip Seymour Hoffman

This morning, he took to Twitter to express his “disgust” that Rolling Stone had knocked him off the cover for Philip Seymour Hoffman. “I’m disgusted with that,” he wrote in two Tweets that he has since removed (you can see them on New York Daily News’ site). “Disgusted?” Really? Maybe “disappointed” would have been a more understandable and less regrettable word choice.

Drake tweeted: “I never commented on Yeezus for my interview portion of Rolling Stone. They also took my cover from me last minute and ran the issue.”

Then followed with this Tweet: “I’m disgusted with that. RIP to Philip Seymour Hoffman. All respect due. But the press is evil.”

Next came the usual declaration…and one that will be recanted next time he needs the press for something. “I’m done doing interviews for magazines. I just want to give my music to the people. That’s the only way me message gets across accurately.” He’s kept up that Tweet.

Drake's a moron.

Alex in NYC, Thursday, 13 February 2014 22:17 (twelve years ago)

is it possible that his disgust was at them for quoting his less than nice comments about some of Yeezus when he thought it was off the record?

Evan R, Thursday, 3 December 2015 05:22 (ten years ago)

Sorry I just unabashedly love it. I don't think I've heard any other album, rap or otherwise, so thoroughally explore the cruel reality that, no matter how much you might delude yourself, you can't bookmark a relationship and return to it when it the timing is more convenient. You either ride it out or give it up for good. Such a simple, Kundera-esque premise, and he does so much with it. Four years later it still guts me.

Evan R, Thursday, 3 December 2015 05:32 (ten years ago)

yeah easily one of my fav records of the decade, i think NWTS is a big step down from this
