Hope there's a hidden-track "Wild Thing" at the end.

I was just reminded on Twitter of something I should have immediately remembered when the news of this thing first broke, namely that this is not the first time Lou's teamed up with a world famous heavy metal quartet and all (in this case, though, it was lyrics only):

...and who could forget the time he blew the world up with Soul Asylum?

man I wonder how many bands Lou has played Sweet Jane with

also wtf with his coinpurse there

The Soul Asylum one is quite good at first, but by the end it seems like it's gone on for six hours

Geirge Hongriot (NickB), Thursday, 15 September 2011 22:48 (fourteen years ago)

Aw, dammit! Why couldn't we have done a Soul Asylum/Lou comp?

guys lets stop wasting time talking about these other bands/artists who were obviously not the best band Lou Reed could possibly find on the planet.

This has come into the world pure.

 (gr8080), Friday, 16 September 2011 01:36 (fourteen years ago)

I dunno, kinda think you're stopping a least a dozen more comedy ILX compilations in their tracks with that kind of talk.

What about, LOU REED KRAYOLA?

I have a feeling these dudes could totally scrap whatever it is they've been working on for the past weeks/months, record an hour of material tonight, and have that quickly turned out material be better than what they were planning to release.

just read the Mojo article last night, and interesting you say that, because from the article is sounds like that's not far off from what it was...metallica dudes seemed kinda shocked by lou, they would essentially read lyrics and listen to his demos and stuff, makes something up on the spot, play it through in what they thought was just a first run...then Lou would be like "Ok sounds great, move on to the next one"...Hetfield made some comment like "lou said it was done, if this were a metallica session we'd still be working on drum sounds for another few hours"

the 500 gats of bartholomew thuggins (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 16 September 2011 15:26 (fourteen years ago)

the whole article is a really strange read...i hope someone else reads it because last night i swear it seemed to me that, in one part, lou was kinda strongly intimating that he still did cocaine, but i'm not sure

Clearly he was on something to think this collaboration was a good idea.

if i was going to add any additional element to the already thunderous equation of metallica + lou reed, i would add cocaine

and my soul said you can't go there (schlump), Friday, 16 September 2011 15:36 (fourteen years ago)

maybe we can verify this by consulting the album's track running times

 (gr8080), Friday, 16 September 2011 17:10 (fourteen years ago)

i was trying not to think of this seriously, but then just the idea of metallica being recorded to reed's exacting muso audiophile standards...

"But wait a minute, man! If we tune all our guitar strings to D then won't that date us to this particular moment? When everyone was tuning their strings to D?"*
