I'm just saying with internet rap sensations (Lil B, OFWGKTA, even like cheesecake Drake back in the day), there's like this weird hoarding of all their material and freaking out over every note, and Kreayshawn still sort of appears to be regarded as one song + a racist friend

thing is there was a time, in rap or otherwise, when you could actually have a career for a decent amount of time off of having just one song out before people either need to hear more or will gladly forget about you. i'm not 100% whether that not being the case anymore is a good thing or a bad thing.

kreayshawn has other good stuff i mean - i like kreayshawn x the bay, which came out after gucci gucci single - but the only reason it's good is cuz kreayshawn has cool friends. on the mixtape i find her verses essentially indistinguishable from the other white gurls, which furthers "one song and a racist friend"

she is playing in london tomorrow btw. at everyone's favourite venue the old blue last ;-)

I hadn't heard kreayshawn x the bay but doesn't that put her in a lineage of weirdo bay rappers more than support an argument that she doesn't have a unique voice? Saying she sounds like her friends isn't very damning criticism

kreayshawn x the bay is just bay producers remixing tracks off her mixtape in a really fun and DGAF way. she doesn't actually rap alongside any of them, so i hesitate to say she falls in that lineage.

what may have been missed here is that i wasn't necessarily trying to damn kreayshawn by the uffie comp. i like kreayshawn and i liked uffie when she came out. i'm just trying to say that it all feels very temporary. white girl mob is a cool idea but i dunno if it necessarily makes for compelling music or a bona fide star...
