Mostly trying to stave off my results rollout falling around Oct. 19-23, when I'll be gone. Of course, I'm guessing I can just make sure that whenever I set up shop, that the deadline falls sometime in there, giving everyone an extra day or two.

Gus Van Sant's Gerry Blank (Eric H.), Monday, 12 September 2011 20:47 (fourteen years ago)

I imagine I'll open GBV voting up whenever the Timbaland poll is nearing a close (so, like, Thursday?) and then let that run to the following weekend and then roll the results out starting Sep 26.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 12 September 2011 21:12 (fourteen years ago)

I think Steviepoll will be done way before that.

JFever, are you ready for the polls to open on GBV whenever some dude starts his countdown? I don't know squat about them other than "I Am a Scientist," but I might do some listening starting this evening and attempt a ballot (no promises).
xpost, that answers that

Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Monday, 12 September 2011 21:16 (fourteen years ago)

Cool. First half of October will work fine for me.

Gus Van Sant's Gerry Blank (Eric H.), Monday, 12 September 2011 21:19 (fourteen years ago)

playing the timbaland poll by ear, might be done thursday, might be done friday fyi

ibiza bloodfarty rock anthem (some dude), Monday, 12 September 2011 21:21 (fourteen years ago)

Well, I'll just say GBV voting starts Thursday regardless. I don't think one will affect the other, really.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 12 September 2011 21:23 (fourteen years ago)

yeah it's all fine with me, just letting you know in case it matters

ibiza bloodfarty rock anthem (some dude), Monday, 12 September 2011 21:25 (fourteen years ago)

that's some really tight schedule then, I better start digging into these Suitcases right now

V79, Monday, 12 September 2011 21:30 (fourteen years ago)

Eh, it's not too tight. This Thursday open thru the next next weekend (so 11 days in total).

Johnny Fever, Monday, 12 September 2011 21:33 (fourteen years ago)

oh, I mistook this for Thursday and the following three days. ok then, that's just fine!

V79, Monday, 12 September 2011 21:36 (fourteen years ago)

11 days to listen to 2,678 songs

Geirge Hongriot (NickB), Monday, 12 September 2011 21:42 (fourteen years ago)

If you're already familiar with them (which I assume most people bothering to vote are) then picking a top 20 won't be incredibly hard.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 12 September 2011 21:46 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, I don't plan on relistening to every album -- just choosing gut favorites, which I already have a mental list of anyway thanks to my years of devoted fanship and strong gut feelings.
It's just tracks, right? 20?

some lady (La Lechera), Monday, 12 September 2011 22:05 (fourteen years ago)

I'll probably do the 5 least favorite/5 albums thing WmC did for the Zep poll. Because it was a good idea!

Johnny Fever, Monday, 12 September 2011 22:19 (fourteen years ago)

put me down for New Order at 37

Bee OK, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 07:28 (fourteen years ago)

All the ballot threads have been very pleasant so far.

I can imagine 11 being a bit of a punch-up for some reason.

Mark G, Tuesday, 13 September 2011 08:22 (fourteen years ago)

Cocteau Twins has to happen. If Leee isn't volunteering I'll hereby gladly put myself forward.

― Vision Kreayshawn Newsun (Le Bateau Ivre)

S'all you! :D

Also:

  • Orbital
  • Underworld
  • Stereolab
  • Spiritualized
?

Leee, Lord of Wtfomgham (Leee), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 16:15 (fourteen years ago)

Gotcha!

WmC, you may put me down for the CT poll.

Vision Kreayshawn Newsun (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 17:03 (fourteen years ago)

I'll go into the past and do it yesterday.

Done!

Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 17:13 (fourteen years ago)

:-)

Bless you for keeping up with all of this!

Vision Kreayshawn Newsun (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 17:15 (fourteen years ago)

Glad to do it, this is easy C&P stuff compared to actually running one of these things.

(the list in progress)

Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 17:21 (fourteen years ago)

If Shakey Mo sees this, a producers question: will this include engineers? I'm thinking like Geoff Emerick on Beatles stuff.

Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Tuesday, 13 September 2011 17:23 (fourteen years ago)

Just for fun, a recap of where the results threads are:

1. Pet Shop Boys: Revelation - Official ILX Pet Shop Boys tracks poll results
2. Beatles: Revolution - Official ILX Beatles tracks poll results
3. Prince: If Tracks Are Good, Let's Get 2 Pollin - PRINCE TRACKS POLL RESULTS
4. U2: "It's a musical journey" - U2 POLL RESULTS
5. Beach Boys: It's About Time: Beach Boys Poll Results
6. Led Zeppelin: ILM GONNA CRAWL — Led Zeppelin poll RESULTS THREAD
7. Timbaland: generation timbo: TIMBALAND TRACKS POLL RESULTS

I've created a little text file to keep up with these so I don't have to look them up every few weeks, durrrr.

Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Thursday, 15 September 2011 01:57 (fourteen years ago)

You should add on the original REM poll, plus the Blur and Pavement polls.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 15 September 2011 02:14 (fourteen years ago)

oh yeah, and the Manics. I found all but REM, but a search isn't bringing that one up -- do you have a link?

Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Thursday, 15 September 2011 02:21 (fourteen years ago)

\///\/// It's the ILX SUPER SUMMER R.E.M. POLL OF POLLS RESULTS THREAD \///\///

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 15 September 2011 02:23 (fourteen years ago)

If you could use permalinks so that those links take you straight to the final chart (i.e. all the tunes ranked in one post, rather than a 500-post reveal) that would be even better. (I know that's very cheeky to ask for, btw)

Neither big nor clever (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 15 September 2011 06:14 (fourteen years ago)

I feel like MC TUNES - THE RESULTS deserves some recognition too

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 15 September 2011 06:21 (fourteen years ago)

Was there never a Dylan one?

Geirge Hongriot (NickB), Thursday, 15 September 2011 06:40 (fourteen years ago)

I was just thinking yesterday, Dylan is kind of a big omission on the list.

JF, will it step on your toes if Eric starts Stevie Wonder balloting before the 25th?

Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Thursday, 15 September 2011 17:11 (fourteen years ago)

I can open balloting any time. I will probably put a pretty long lead on it because I want no less than 200 ballots.

michael assbender (Eric H.), Thursday, 15 September 2011 17:24 (fourteen years ago)

If Shakey Mo sees this, a producers question: will this include engineers? I'm thinking like Geoff Emerick on Beatles stuff.

I'm going to be sort of a literalist about this - if they are listed as "producer" in the credits of released material, then they are admissable. otherwise no. what constitutes "production" varies so widely throughout music history, I can't think of any other way to approach this that will ensure any kind of uniformity.

looking forward to all those Andy Warhol votes lol

I saw Mike Love walk by a computer once (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 15 September 2011 17:28 (fourteen years ago)

also all those Steve Albini disqualifications

Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Thursday, 15 September 2011 17:32 (fourteen years ago)

that's Albini's own fault imho

I saw Mike Love walk by a computer once (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 15 September 2011 17:35 (fourteen years ago)

Just throwing this out there...

How do folks feel about ILM polling the greatest guitarists and singers of all time?

Should note: I could never do these myself, but it might mix things up well and good.

Naive Teen Idol, Friday, 16 September 2011 03:13 (fourteen years ago)

[i]JF, will it step on your toes if Eric starts Stevie Wonder balloting before the 25th?<?i>

Nope. I'll be voting in that one, so I welcome it.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 16 September 2011 03:21 (fourteen years ago)

Hopefully, I vote better than I html.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 16 September 2011 03:21 (fourteen years ago)

Maybe I missed a link, but I just saw that the Guided By Voices poll is now running. Yay!

ArchCarrier, Friday, 16 September 2011 07:41 (fourteen years ago)

yo WmC, can I swap my Radiohead poll for a Neptunes one? I came to realize this one is going to be a lot more fun and Neptunes are surely lot less covered than RH

if Nasty Brutish & Short wants his place in the queue back, then of course I'm willing to let it go

V79, Sunday, 18 September 2011 17:41 (fourteen years ago)

thanks!

V79, Sunday, 18 September 2011 18:04 (fourteen years ago)

harumph

Neither big nor clever (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Sunday, 18 September 2011 19:31 (fourteen years ago)

Looking at the schedule for the last three the artists is kinda lol esp. PJ Harvey - Nasty, Brutish & Short.

Leee, Lord of Wtfomgham (Leee), Sunday, 18 September 2011 19:40 (fourteen years ago)

I've started my Stevie Wonder listening for #9 -- esp interested in pre-Talking Book deep cuts. (Listening to his instrumental debut album now.)

Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Monday, 19 September 2011 13:44 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, I thought I'd do that too, since I had turned in my GBV ballot yesterday afternoon. But I started with Journey Through the Secret Life of Plants...

ArchCarrier, Tuesday, 20 September 2011 10:29 (fourteen years ago)

Tough album to love. Impossible, even. (I'll probably open balloting later this week.)

michael assbender (Eric H.), Tuesday, 20 September 2011 11:31 (fourteen years ago)

Top 4 songs I probably wouldn't have discovered if it weren't for these artist polls:
1. Beach Boys, 'Till I Die'
2. Stevie Wonder, 'Uptight (Everything's Alright)'
3. Guided By Voices, 'Everywhere with Helicopter'
4. Led Zeppelin, 'Carouselambra'

Thank you, ILM.
WmC, sign me up for Sonic Youth. I'm ready!

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 21 September 2011 08:54 (fourteen years ago)

hahaha, well even if you're not ready now, you've got a year to get ready.

(the list in progress)

Antonio Carlos Broheem (WmC), Wednesday, 21 September 2011 13:21 (fourteen years ago)

alright. can't wait for 38
