yeah total's gonna be around 35 voters -- how does that rank w/ the other artist poll turnouts?

Zep's final count was 66, Pavement was around 58, but I think U2 and Beach Boys were 40ish? My impression is that it takes more dedicated listening to stay current and educated with hip-hop than it does with older canonical artists whose discogs are kinda imprinted in everybody's head to start with (note: I'm probably talking shit here), so 35 seems like a really good turnout to me.

Jazz poll got 39, which is at least double what I expected

oh yeah i never even hoped to compete w/ those big rock gods but the Timbaland turnout REALLY exceeded my expectations, especially since that poll of the whole genre of hip hop only got like 30 ballots iirc

I think it's probably best keeping to just things released under the GBV moniker (that's already about a million billion songs to pick from). One caveat would be the Suitcase series, where fake band names are used for individual tracks.

Hey, if people wanna vote for extra-GBV or post-GBV stuff and it means people are happier and more potential voters, I'd be happy to lift the non-GBV ban. I'm all about not caring too hard!

Eric, that's a good question. I think things work best when there's only one set of results rolling out at a time, but I don't see any harm in two sets of balloting going on at once.

Mostly trying to stave off my results rollout falling around Oct. 19-23, when I'll be gone. Of course, I'm guessing I can just make sure that whenever I set up shop, that the deadline falls sometime in there, giving everyone an extra day or two.

I imagine I'll open GBV voting up whenever the Timbaland poll is nearing a close (so, like, Thursday?) and then let that run to the following weekend and then roll the results out starting Sep 26.

I think Steviepoll will be done way before that.

JFever, are you ready for the polls to open on GBV whenever some dude starts his countdown? I don't know squat about them other than "I Am a Scientist," but I might do some listening starting this evening and attempt a ballot (no promises).

If you're already familiar with them (which I assume most people bothering to vote are) then picking a top 20 won't be incredibly hard.
