TIMBALAND TRACKS POLL (voting deadline Saturday, September 10th at FIFTEEN AFTER THE HOUR midnight EST)

so we've got 5 or 24+5 hours left? that's important, my one is in the making, I'm still checking albums out!

Man this is harder than I anticipated. I haven't listened to so much of this stuff in such a long time, random album cuts that I never thought twice about when they came out are opening up to me now. And I had never heard that Ms Jade, its awesome. Probably will get you my ballot at 11:59 tomorrow night.

24+5 hours left. i will probably be flexible about late ballots, especially if people give me a heads up to wait for them and don't push too far past the deadline.

mine will prob be late becuz I wasn't even planning on voting in this until today. i'll let you know though.

i've literally been adding in new ballots as soon as i get them and often forgetting to respond just from being excited about seeing how the results change

So much material to take in. I had completely forgotten the existence of Lil' Kim's "Money Talks", which was a huge favourite of mine back in the day.

One thing that's been fascinating me when listening to tracks for this poll is finding out which performers are ideally matched to Tim's beats. Unsurprisingly, it's the chemistry between beatmaker and lead artist that makes magic out of the best of these tracks, except for Ms. Jade (where the relative ordinariness of the voice and the rhymes is brilliantly offset by the most dumbfoundingly outre beats Timbaland has ever produced). That's why we'll all stuffing our ballots with Missy tracks. Jay-Z you already know about, but the real surprise has been Petey Pablo. How did I miss this guy? Where is he?

yeah Petey Pablo was a real talented dude and always sounded more at home on Tim's beats than a lot of other southern rappers. after he did "Goodies" and "Freak-A-Leek" it seemed like he was leaning more toward Lil Jon and crunk than Timbo, then kind of out of nowhere he started hanging out with Suge Knight and talking about signing with Death Row and his career just kind of stopped. no flop singles, no mixtapes afaict, he just kinda disappeared. but supposedly he's working on a new album and last year apparently he put out a Timbaland-produced single and it's not bad!

I don't think any Petey songs other than "Get On Dis Motorcycle" will make it for me. I love his second album in particular but I don't feel like any of his other Timbaland collab'os are so great that I'd cite them as top 40 worthy. "Raise Up", "I" and "I Told Y'all" are all solid top 60 or top 70 entrants though.

Whereas basically everything Jay-Z and Timbaland did together circa 99/00 could be top 20 for me.

Talking about Petey Pablo/Timbaland tunes always makes me think of ethan complaining about mystikal rapping over "petey pablo beats".

Also have to decide whether to include "Gun Line" or Tweet's "Sport, Sex & Food". Both have beaten Kiley Dean's "Stay Away From My Boyfriend" in the elimination finals but now I have to decide between them.

the race for #1 is getting REALLY close, the top four tracks are all within like 12 points of each other right now. likewise the boundary between what gets into the top 50 and what's outside it is really thin, so anyone who votes now could really shake up the results.

Not that retinkering would actually make it easier so I think I'll just let it lie, but wish I'd tossed a vote toward Are You Feelin' Me? or Gun Line. This poll might be even harder than Prince was.
