real talk: listening to "Can We" on headphones for the first time i JUST noticed the barking dog in the beat!
― some dude, Friday, 9 September 2011 11:38 (fourteen years ago)
I'll be giving 'Can We' some, this is great.
― Ismael Klata, Friday, 9 September 2011 11:47 (fourteen years ago)
omg the version of "All N My Grill" on this Spotify playlist is the one with MC Solaar in place of Big Boi that led to a classic exchange on this thread: da real world
― some dude, Friday, 9 September 2011 14:45 (fourteen years ago)
Ballot submitted. Voted for 'Can We', but guessing that & Total's 'Trippin' are going to be a bit under-represented.
Hadn't realised jess'd posted 'Gun Line' before I did - soz!
No mention of Omarion's 'Ice Box' on the thread yet, which is a shame - exquisite latter-day co-production with The Royal Court. Ditto the few tracks he produced for Japanese megastar Utada.
― etc, Friday, 9 September 2011 14:48 (fourteen years ago)
i mentioned icebox up topthe utada tracks are okay; i prefer the "make me want to be a man" song that he didn't produce off that album by far.
― thank got forks showed up (forksclovetofu), Friday, 9 September 2011 14:57 (fourteen years ago)
...which ties with "Simple and Clean" for my favorite Utada
― thank got forks showed up (forksclovetofu), Friday, 9 September 2011 14:58 (fourteen years ago)
btw there is now NO song that appears on everybody's ballot -- one song hung on for the first 10 ballots and then got snubbed by Jordan
― Speculum (some dude), Thursday, September 8, 2011 6:34 PM (38 minutes ago) Bookmark
bastard
haha. actually i think this was an oversight, i had it on there, then moved stuff around and forgot to add it back.
― hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Friday, 9 September 2011 15:10 (fourteen years ago)
you don't even know what song it is! (and probably wouldn't be able to guess)
― Tal Bachman - Highness advocate (some dude), Friday, 9 September 2011 15:11 (fourteen years ago)
oh! assumed it was 'pony', but looking back i had that on my ballot after all.
― hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Friday, 9 September 2011 18:43 (fourteen years ago)
18 ballots now! and a song needs at least 3 votes to make it into the top 50 at this point.
I'll try to e-mail people about blurb opportunities ('assignments' doesn't sound right, this is all optional and for fun) tonight or tomorrow, and voting ends midnight tomorrow night EST.
― some dude, Friday, 9 September 2011 22:23 (fourteen years ago)
so we've got 5 or 24+5 hours left? that's important, my one is in the making, I'm still checking albums out!
― V79, Friday, 9 September 2011 22:26 (fourteen years ago)
Man this is harder than I anticipated. I haven't listened to so much of this stuff in such a long time, random album cuts that I never thought twice about when they came out are opening up to me now. And I had never heard that Ms Jade, its awesome. Probably will get you my ballot at 11:59 tomorrow night.
― Gred The Flopson (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Friday, 9 September 2011 22:46 (fourteen years ago)
24+5 hours left. i will probably be flexible about late ballots, especially if people give me a heads up to wait for them and don't push too far past the deadline.
― some dude, Friday, 9 September 2011 23:09 (fourteen years ago)
mine will prob be late becuz I wasn't even planning on voting in this until today. i'll let you know though.

i voted but haven't had the confirmation email yet... are you sending these some dude?
― second only to popcorn (or something), Friday, 9 September 2011 23:20 (fourteen years ago)
i've been terrible about those, will send confirmation e-mails to all tonight, so let me know if you don't hear back from me by tomorrow
― some dude, Friday, 9 September 2011 23:51 (fourteen years ago)
i've literally been adding in new ballots as soon as i get them and often forgetting to respond just from being excited about seeing how the results change
― some dude, Friday, 9 September 2011 23:59 (fourteen years ago)
So much material to take in. I had completely forgotten the existence of Lil' Kim's "Money Talks", which was a huge favourite of mine back in the day.

ARGH this is so painful.
― Tim F, Saturday, 10 September 2011 01:04 (fourteen years ago)
haha i know!
sent out confirmation e-mails for all ballots received (so if you didn't get one let me know), and told forks and lamp and mind taker which songs they can blurb. anyone else who wants to write anything for the results rollout feel free to volunteer!
― some dude, Saturday, 10 September 2011 01:32 (fourteen years ago)
One thing that's been fascinating me when listening to tracks for this poll is finding out which performers are ideally matched to Tim's beats. Unsurprisingly, it's the chemistry between beatmaker and lead artist that makes magic out of the best of these tracks, except for Ms. Jade (where the relative ordinariness of the voice and the rhymes is brilliantly offset by the most dumbfoundingly outre beats Timbaland has ever produced). That's why we'll all stuffing our ballots with Missy tracks. Jay-Z you already know about, but the real surprise has been Petey Pablo. How did I miss this guy? Where is he?
― Melle Mel and the Coconuts (thewufs), Saturday, 10 September 2011 02:53 (fourteen years ago)
yeah Petey Pablo was a real talented dude and always sounded more at home on Tim's beats than a lot of other southern rappers. after he did "Goodies" and "Freak-A-Leek" it seemed like he was leaning more toward Lil Jon and crunk than Timbo, then kind of out of nowhere he started hanging out with Suge Knight and talking about signing with Death Row and his career just kind of stopped. no flop singles, no mixtapes afaict, he just kinda disappeared. but supposedly he's working on a new album and last year apparently he put out a Timbaland-produced single and it's not bad!

― some dude, Saturday, 10 September 2011 03:24 (fourteen years ago)
I don't think any Petey songs other than "Get On Dis Motorcycle" will make it for me. I love his second album in particular but I don't feel like any of his other Timbaland collab'os are so great that I'd cite them as top 40 worthy. "Raise Up", "I" and "I Told Y'all" are all solid top 60 or top 70 entrants though.
Whereas basically everything Jay-Z and Timbaland did together circa 99/00 could be top 20 for me.
― Tim F, Saturday, 10 September 2011 03:54 (fourteen years ago)
Talking about Petey Pablo/Timbaland tunes always makes me think of ethan complaining about mystikal rapping over "petey pablo beats".
― Tim F, Saturday, 10 September 2011 03:55 (fourteen years ago)
Also have to decide whether to include "Gun Line" or Tweet's "Sport, Sex & Food". Both have beaten Kiley Dean's "Stay Away From My Boyfriend" in the elimination finals but now I have to decide between them.
― Tim F, Saturday, 10 September 2011 03:59 (fourteen years ago)
fuck i wish i remembered money talks, that song is amazing. i did vote for the jump-off.
― symsymsym, Saturday, 10 September 2011 04:16 (fourteen years ago)

deej, maybe he was, I think it was a general reference to fruity tribal beats rather than timbaland specifically.

That would be amazing. All about the hi-hat.
I'm digging Ms Jade too. Also, Brandy's Afrodisiac is a really nice album.
― Ismael Klata, Saturday, 10 September 2011 14:20 (fourteen years ago)
the race for #1 is getting REALLY close, the top four tracks are all within like 12 points of each other right now. likewise the boundary between what gets into the top 50 and what's outside it is really thin, so anyone who votes now could really shake up the results.
