Your heart also doesn't like riding ponies 'stead of riding bikes.

Gus Van Sant's Gerry Blank (Eric H.), Thursday, 8 September 2011 14:19 (fourteen years ago)

well on that one, my heart is 100% OTM

Tal Berkowitz - Vaccine advocate (DJP), Thursday, 8 September 2011 14:22 (fourteen years ago)

"Beep Me 911" rocketing up my list on repeat listens

Melle Mel and the Coconuts (thewufs), Thursday, 8 September 2011 14:43 (fourteen years ago)

Just noticing now using Ctrl+F that neither "SWV" nor "Can We" appears anywhere on this thread which has got me kinda sad. I assumed this was a fan fav since it was always in my favorites.

billstevejim, Thursday, 8 September 2011 16:37 (fourteen years ago)

nearly finished this but what tracks did he do on the s/t aaliyah record?

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 8 September 2011 16:47 (fourteen years ago)

SENT!

10 Missy tracks I think (it's Missy so she's most prob. involved in like 30 of them)
6 Aaliyah
No Obie Trice

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 8 September 2011 17:02 (fourteen years ago)

Only 1 record solely added because of freestyles i've heard on the beat because timb gave it to the rong person

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 8 September 2011 17:05 (fourteen years ago)

I'm trying to be very methodical about this & working steadily through the playlist. This stuff's nearly all new to me and I don't want to miss anything. It's mostly great. I may not get to the end, but you'll get forty tracks from me idc.

One thing though - is Tim heavily front-loading all these albums? Whenever I start a new one I'm marking a star beside all the first few tracks, then usually withering away to 'meh'. Either that or I've only got a limited tolerance for these dudes'/gals' voices.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 8 September 2011 17:09 (fourteen years ago)

ok, fine, fine, i'm just going to get this over with and do a totally instinctive ballot. automatic voting.

hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Thursday, 8 September 2011 17:12 (fourteen years ago)

Where he's been given a whole album to play with, usually I find that it starts with the big dancy singles and then goes into a second half of him playing with r&b genre expectations. when i was 15 and listening to trevor nelson religiously, that stuff seemed so much more interesting to me. (in the same regard, i currently feel totally out of the loop with r&b and if someone like timb came along today, i'd most prob just go for the singles.)

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 8 September 2011 17:13 (fourteen years ago)

Something i recommend is turning off the timb after voting. Shit I missed X-tasy! How was my list not just all Missy????

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 8 September 2011 17:16 (fourteen years ago)

Late discovery - Petey Pablo & Kiley Dean's "The Gun Line" on a Bubba mixtape:

hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Thursday, 8 September 2011 17:55 (fourteen years ago)

IMO that's the weakest song on 3D

Tal Berkowitz - Vaccine advocate (DJP), Thursday, 8 September 2011 18:07 (fourteen years ago)

great beat though.

i voted, put down 30 and tried to base it mostly on beats, not on my favorite songs.

hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Thursday, 8 September 2011 18:15 (fourteen years ago)

Al, if you would like to post these with a few sentences of commentary apiece, I'd be interested in volunteering to see the final list and pick out about half of them to write a lil bit about? Maybe some others would too?

i am into this idea, since i was thinking about writing a bit about some of the songs along w/ the results but definitely wouldn't be able to do it all myself. tell you what, if you (or anyone else) e-mails me with a list of songs you'd like to write about, i'll 'assign' some that are definitely going to make it into the top 50 that haven't been claimed by anyone else.

three ballots in my inbox when i got home today, keep 'em comin'!

Speculum (some dude), Thursday, 8 September 2011 23:31 (fourteen years ago)

btw there is now NO song that appears on everybody's ballot -- one song hung on for the first 10 ballots and then got snubbed by Jordan

Speculum (some dude), Thursday, 8 September 2011 23:34 (fourteen years ago)

I'm up for doing some blurbs too - will identify in my ballot.

Tim F, Friday, 9 September 2011 00:01 (fourteen years ago)

oh yeah good call, people can also feel free to just asterisk songs on their ballot they would blurb -- or if they just want to say they're up for blurbing, i'll pick songs they placed highly or something

this song has been appallingly underrepresented on the ballots so far btw

some dude, Friday, 9 September 2011 00:15 (fourteen years ago)

that gun line song is sweet

symsymsym, Friday, 9 September 2011 00:24 (fourteen years ago)

was listening to Tim & Magoo's Welcome To Our World today since it's probably my favorite Tim-produced full-length and is just a perfect party record front to back, bums me out that it's not gonna be represented very well in the poll. a few of my fav tracks:

Peepin' My Style:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paKGi8trq2A

15 After Da Hour:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdZsi9gFtUU

Luv 2 Luv U, classic single, classic remix, classic video:

some dude, Friday, 9 September 2011 01:14 (fourteen years ago)

Pretty sure at least three from that album are on my ballot.

Gus Van Sant's Gerry Blank (Eric H.), Friday, 9 September 2011 02:45 (fourteen years ago)

Can I also pimp for "We At It Again" from the Romeo Must Die soundtrack?

Tim F, Friday, 9 September 2011 03:03 (fourteen years ago)

i'm down with reviewing anything on my ballot, just let me know what you want covered al

bummin huge

billstevejim, Friday, 9 September 2011 06:49 (fourteen years ago)

hey late voters.... do not sleep on this. this was the first timbaland song that ever really got my attention when i was like 17.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bf3vlOAc71o

billstevejim, Friday, 9 September 2011 06:50 (fourteen years ago)

Also iirc the first time I ever heard "Beep Me 911" was on a Pearl Jam radio simulcast when they got to DJ songs they liked.

billstevejim, Friday, 9 September 2011 06:55 (fourteen years ago)

haha yes! Monkey Wrench Radio! i totally forgot about that! apparently Stone Gossard also played "Luv 2 Luv U":

some dude, Friday, 9 September 2011 11:18 (fourteen years ago)

real talk: listening to "Can We" on headphones for the first time i JUST noticed the barking dog in the beat!

some dude, Friday, 9 September 2011 11:38 (fourteen years ago)

I'll be giving 'Can We' some, this is great.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 9 September 2011 11:47 (fourteen years ago)

omg the version of "All N My Grill" on this Spotify playlist is the one with MC Solaar in place of Big Boi that led to a classic exchange on this thread: da real world

some dude, Friday, 9 September 2011 14:45 (fourteen years ago)

Ballot submitted. Voted for 'Can We', but guessing that & Total's 'Trippin' are going to be a bit under-represented.

Hadn't realised jess'd posted 'Gun Line' before I did - soz!

No mention of Omarion's 'Ice Box' on the thread yet, which is a shame - exquisite latter-day co-production with The Royal Court. Ditto the few tracks he produced for Japanese megastar Utada.

etc, Friday, 9 September 2011 14:48 (fourteen years ago)

i mentioned icebox up top
the utada tracks are okay; i prefer the "make me want to be a man" song that he didn't produce off that album by far.

thank got forks showed up (forksclovetofu), Friday, 9 September 2011 14:57 (fourteen years ago)

...which ties with "Simple and Clean" for my favorite Utada

haha. actually i think this was an oversight, i had it on there, then moved stuff around and forgot to add it back.

hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Friday, 9 September 2011 15:10 (fourteen years ago)

you don't even know what song it is! (and probably wouldn't be able to guess)

Tal Bachman - Highness advocate (some dude), Friday, 9 September 2011 15:11 (fourteen years ago)

oh! assumed it was 'pony', but looking back i had that on my ballot after all.

hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Friday, 9 September 2011 18:43 (fourteen years ago)

18 ballots now! and a song needs at least 3 votes to make it into the top 50 at this point.

I'll try to e-mail people about blurb opportunities ('assignments' doesn't sound right, this is all optional and for fun) tonight or tomorrow, and voting ends midnight tomorrow night EST.

some dude, Friday, 9 September 2011 22:23 (fourteen years ago)

so we've got 5 or 24+5 hours left? that's important, my one is in the making, I'm still checking albums out!

V79, Friday, 9 September 2011 22:26 (fourteen years ago)

Man this is harder than I anticipated. I haven't listened to so much of this stuff in such a long time, random album cuts that I never thought twice about when they came out are opening up to me now. And I had never heard that Ms Jade, its awesome. Probably will get you my ballot at 11:59 tomorrow night.

Gred The Flopson (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Friday, 9 September 2011 22:46 (fourteen years ago)

24+5 hours left. i will probably be flexible about late ballots, especially if people give me a heads up to wait for them and don't push too far past the deadline.

some dude, Friday, 9 September 2011 23:09 (fourteen years ago)

mine will prob be late becuz I wasn't even planning on voting in this until today. i'll let you know though.

the special technique of liveblogging (The Brainwasher), Friday, 9 September 2011 23:13 (fourteen years ago)

gotta have BW in the mix! yes get it in when you can

some dude, Friday, 9 September 2011 23:16 (fourteen years ago)

i voted but haven't had the confirmation email yet... are you sending these some dude?

second only to popcorn (or something), Friday, 9 September 2011 23:20 (fourteen years ago)

i've been terrible about those, will send confirmation e-mails to all tonight, so let me know if you don't hear back from me by tomorrow

some dude, Friday, 9 September 2011 23:51 (fourteen years ago)

i've literally been adding in new ballots as soon as i get them and often forgetting to respond just from being excited about seeing how the results change

some dude, Friday, 9 September 2011 23:59 (fourteen years ago)

So much material to take in. I had completely forgotten the existence of Lil' Kim's "Money Talks", which was a huge favourite of mine back in the day.

Tim F, Saturday, 10 September 2011 00:47 (fourteen years ago)

ARGH this is so painful.
