fyi all ballots are ranked, there's no "everything equally" option, so if you care about what gets how many points send it to me in that order, if not i'm just counting it in whatever order the ballot is sent to me

big spiritual hat club (some dude), Monday, 5 September 2011 19:28 (fourteen years ago)

i'm kinda with tamtam as this being MEANINGFUL; though i had numerous other earlier ins to hip hop, timbo and missy were hella impactful in college.

thank got forks showed up (forksclovetofu), Monday, 5 September 2011 19:37 (fourteen years ago)

Finally listening to Tim's Bio. WTF is up with this Spider-Man beat? Also, great beats + Timbaland rapping = why, Tim, why?

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Monday, 5 September 2011 20:25 (fourteen years ago)

haha the spiderman one was the SINGLE too

big spiritual hat club (some dude), Monday, 5 September 2011 20:30 (fourteen years ago)

this made me relisten to cornell

there was a dark time in 2009 when i would rep for scream just because it was The Most Ludicrous Thing I Had Ever Listened To.

mutant slow drum (BradNelson), Monday, 5 September 2011 20:53 (fourteen years ago)

just sent in my ballot. the ordering was mostly arbitrary after the top 5 - its really tough to rank this stuff! going through the disco, re-listening to the 03 stuff again was a huge nostalgia bomb. its funny because i remember the murmurings beginning around that point that he had fallen off, but that was a motherfucker of a year for tim

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_i_qxQztHRI (Princess TamTam), Tuesday, 6 September 2011 02:22 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i'm finding a lot of sympathy for later stuff i want to throw votes toward, past 03 even

with five ballots now there are 102 songs with votes, and amazingly only one song with votes from everybody so far (and not a very obvious song at all)

big spiritual hat club (some dude), Tuesday, 6 September 2011 02:53 (fourteen years ago)

6 ballots in, and still a very surprising song in the lead!

some dude, Tuesday, 6 September 2011 13:47 (fourteen years ago)

i never heard "550 What?" before seeing it on Forks's ballot but now i'm really thinking of voting for it:

i would bet the winner is a missy track btw

thank got forks showed up (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 6 September 2011 18:03 (fourteen years ago)

amazingly there is only one missy track in the top 10 at the moment

some dude, Tuesday, 6 September 2011 18:06 (fourteen years ago)

wtf people

thank got forks showed up (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 6 September 2011 18:40 (fourteen years ago)

well it's not like any of the other tracks are bad

some dude, Tuesday, 6 September 2011 18:44 (fourteen years ago)

Vote splitting might be a problem since she's got so many classics, tho.

Melle Mel and the Coconuts (thewufs), Tuesday, 6 September 2011 18:49 (fourteen years ago)

we'll see, we'll see. i'm thinking that along w/ the 'worst' poll one of the little preview lists i'll do before the big rollout might be a breakdown of what artists got the most points from totaling all their tracks.

some dude, Tuesday, 6 September 2011 18:55 (fourteen years ago)

Suddenly feeling a lot less guilty that my ballot will basically be 70 percent Missy.

Gus Van Sant's Gerry Blank (Eric H.), Tuesday, 6 September 2011 18:55 (fourteen years ago)

"Turn It Up" was always my jam off that Brandy record, was bummed that it kind of tanked as a single and they went with that Kanye song instead, really fun little '90s-style Timbo jam full of nods to Aaliyah:

Ms. Jade - Dream (wasn't on the album, maybe because of the Biggie sample?)

etc, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 13:30 (fourteen years ago)

nice find!

Ginuwine's "Do You Remember" (i.e. the song with the "we boned on your mama couch" hook and ridiculous mid-song skit and Queen sample)

http://www.youtube.com./watch?v=4ZloPFZ0ZQ4

all shitley chess club (some dude), Wednesday, 7 September 2011 13:56 (fourteen years ago)

That song is so epic and incredible. "i....i just wanna be with him"

D-40, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 17:35 (fourteen years ago)

I still can't believe he sampled flash's theme in an r&b slow jam

D-40, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 17:36 (fourteen years ago)

would it be too much in character/easy zings if i brought up that Cex remakes that entire skit almost word for word on one of his early albums

some dude, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 17:42 (fourteen years ago)

how about that go-go tag on 550 what? (not that timbo did it, it doesn't sound like he did)

hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Wednesday, 7 September 2011 17:53 (fourteen years ago)

i dunno, i wouldn't put it past him

some dude, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 19:11 (fourteen years ago)

i'll be throwing a vote at "i'll do anything/i'm sorry" off the bachelor

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 7 September 2011 22:30 (fourteen years ago)

looking forward to ballots from j0rdan, jordan, deej, tim, rtc, brainwasher, lex, rev, k3c, djp, a hoy hoy, spottie, sym, prego, billstevejim, really everyone who's posted itt so far... should i e-mail some ex-pats like matos or ethan and try to get them to vote?

Speculum (some dude), Wednesday, 7 September 2011 22:53 (fourteen years ago)

yah def

D-40, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 22:55 (fourteen years ago)

there was one person who emailed a ballot whose name i didn't recognize (initials 'cm') so maybe that's one of the people i listed but either way! keep em comin!

Speculum (some dude), Wednesday, 7 September 2011 23:07 (fourteen years ago)

Speculum (some dude), Wednesday, 7 September 2011 23:09 (fourteen years ago)

prego, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 23:45 (fourteen years ago)

I can exclusively reveal i'm the mysterious "cm"

Number None, Wednesday, 7 September 2011 23:52 (fourteen years ago)

Probably need another day to figure out this ballot. Sigh.

These mega-polls are awesome because they force me to reconsider my ossified "truisms" about some of my favourite musicians but DAMN if they aren't difficult for the exact same reason.

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Wednesday, 7 September 2011 23:52 (fourteen years ago)

omg colin meloy posts to ilx

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Thursday, 8 September 2011 00:01 (fourteen years ago)

Coming in 2012: Colin Meloy sings Timbaland

Number None, Thursday, 8 September 2011 00:07 (fourteen years ago)

Al, if you would like to post these with a few sentences of commentary apiece, I'd be interested in volunteering to see the final list and pick out about half of them to write a lil bit about? Maybe some others would too?

thank got forks showed up (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 8 September 2011 13:47 (fourteen years ago)

gah I keep forgetting to do this, sorry dude(s)

this will be another rush job, there's too much material to go back through to be fully "informed" and anyway I feel very strongly that my truest reactions to music stem from the heart rather than the head (my problem is that my heart is a calculator, lol)

Tal Berkowitz - Vaccine advocate (DJP), Thursday, 8 September 2011 13:55 (fourteen years ago)

Your heart also doesn't like riding ponies 'stead of riding bikes.

Gus Van Sant's Gerry Blank (Eric H.), Thursday, 8 September 2011 14:19 (fourteen years ago)

well on that one, my heart is 100% OTM

Tal Berkowitz - Vaccine advocate (DJP), Thursday, 8 September 2011 14:22 (fourteen years ago)

"Beep Me 911" rocketing up my list on repeat listens

Melle Mel and the Coconuts (thewufs), Thursday, 8 September 2011 14:43 (fourteen years ago)

Just noticing now using Ctrl+F that neither "SWV" nor "Can We" appears anywhere on this thread which has got me kinda sad. I assumed this was a fan fav since it was always in my favorites.

billstevejim, Thursday, 8 September 2011 16:37 (fourteen years ago)

nearly finished this but what tracks did he do on the s/t aaliyah record?

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 8 September 2011 16:47 (fourteen years ago)

SENT!

10 Missy tracks I think (it's Missy so she's most prob. involved in like 30 of them)
6 Aaliyah
No Obie Trice

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 8 September 2011 17:02 (fourteen years ago)

Only 1 record solely added because of freestyles i've heard on the beat because timb gave it to the rong person

Ravaging Rick Rude (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 8 September 2011 17:05 (fourteen years ago)

I'm trying to be very methodical about this & working steadily through the playlist. This stuff's nearly all new to me and I don't want to miss anything. It's mostly great. I may not get to the end, but you'll get forty tracks from me idc.

One thing though - is Tim heavily front-loading all these albums? Whenever I start a new one I'm marking a star beside all the first few tracks, then usually withering away to 'meh'. Either that or I've only got a limited tolerance for these dudes'/gals' voices.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 8 September 2011 17:09 (fourteen years ago)

ok, fine, fine, i'm just going to get this over with and do a totally instinctive ballot. automatic voting.

hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Thursday, 8 September 2011 17:12 (fourteen years ago)

Where he's been given a whole album to play with, usually I find that it starts with the big dancy singles and then goes into a second half of him playing with r&b genre expectations. when i was 15 and listening to trevor nelson religiously, that stuff seemed so much more interesting to me. (in the same regard, i currently feel totally out of the loop with r&b and if someone like timb came along today, i'd most prob just go for the singles.)
