this track has never been on my radar until today but looks like they knew at the time they were a bit behind the curve?

one time picked up this dj zky

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIdQe5xquD8

thinking it was this dj zki (of dj zki + dobre)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKg5gz1Nyc8

and was mad dissapointed

though thinking about zki and dobre reminded me of some other banging house from that period

First DJ Zky is the Cabinet Records one. That is great. The second is the Rene Et Gaston alias (I take it they're not the same then??). Cabinet is fuckin great.

Is great - Vallee De Larme maybe dated somewhat but still a tune.

HMC is Australian? Colin Favor used to play HMC tracks on Kiss FM London many years ago. Southern Cross is nice.

I'm looking for a 90s or early 00s house track... it might sample the piano from I Can't Go For That and it's very laid back -- it never really takes off, ie it wouldn't be suitable for the climax of a club night. In a Pepe Bradock style. Might even be him. I know its a bit of a classic. The name has slipped my mind. Ideas?

elan, Sunday, 4 September 2011 18:36 (fourteen years ago)

One distinctive thing about the track is that it screws with the normal kick - hat house pattern, omitting some of the hats that would in between the kicks.

elan, Sunday, 4 September 2011 18:58 (fourteen years ago)

so, it's not an edit of "i can't go for that"? because there were a couple of good ones floating around at the time. what part of the hook, exactly does it sample?

one of the first things i thought of is this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MENf5PW67PA

of course, it's not that. and that one is pitched up from regular speed ... wonder if theo parrish ever heard the drums at 5:06?

so how does the sound of this motorbass-era remix compare to what you're thinking?

mr peabody (moonship journey to baja), Sunday, 4 September 2011 19:47 (fourteen years ago)

can't ever think of pepe braddock without remembering this track. anyone remember daft punk's essential mix?

old news i know but it's the first (relatively) HQ youtube version i've seen so i thought it bore posting

mr peabody (moonship journey to baja), Sunday, 4 September 2011 19:52 (fourteen years ago)

based on "the gospel" i'm pretty sure gene farris has a few trankilou records

mr peabody (moonship journey to baja), Sunday, 4 September 2011 19:55 (fourteen years ago)

it samples THE piano trill -- used in that EDC remix but that's way more dynamic than what i'm thinking. my track is one of those where you've heard the whole song after about 30 seconds, but it's made to last 10 minutes or so.

i wouldn't consider it an edit but i'd appreciate if you'd post any that fit my description.

elan, Sunday, 4 September 2011 19:58 (fourteen years ago)

i just discovered that youtube keeps a list of every video you watch... yup, it's worth it to me. i'm going back.

elan, Sunday, 4 September 2011 19:59 (fourteen years ago)

is it this?

BOO YAH
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3p3ZdnmCYA

it's not hall & oates after all. i guess it samples sergio mendes - the real thing.

elan, Sunday, 4 September 2011 20:06 (fourteen years ago)

and maybe it's not classic to anyone else

elan, Sunday, 4 September 2011 20:10 (fourteen years ago)

oh that was actually the very first thing i thought of but that that track is very recent

i used it very prominently in a recent mix i did

mr peabody (moonship journey to baja), Sunday, 4 September 2011 20:11 (fourteen years ago)

It's from 2002... recent in one sense but still of another time for house music.

elan, Sunday, 4 September 2011 20:15 (fourteen years ago)

oh i didn't realize it was so old! i only heard it in 2007 when it came out on rush hour.

mr peabody (moonship journey to baja), Sunday, 4 September 2011 20:16 (fourteen years ago)

actually come to think of it iirc carl craig used it on his "workout" mix but tbh i only ever listened to that when i was working out and i don't remember anything except how it starts and the adult song (because it's catchy) and the nuwalker song (because i am a big pulsinger fan). i should listen to that again sometime and see how it sounds now that whooshy big room music is coming back.

oh sweet, i can't wait to listen!

elan, Sunday, 4 September 2011 21:27 (fourteen years ago)

it has some classics mixed with some current stuff like tom trago that is wigging people out around these parts

mr peabody (moonship journey to baja), Sunday, 4 September 2011 21:48 (fourteen years ago)

do you have any info on it?

mr peabody (moonship journey to baja), Friday, 16 September 2011 16:12 (fourteen years ago)

do mousse t and boris dlugosch own that label?

briefly got into boris dlugosch based on this mix and his work with deichkind but then i got embarrassed

mr peabody (moonship journey to baja), Friday, 16 September 2011 16:17 (fourteen years ago)

oh weird, no idea how it ended up on that label

there appear to be 3 "shake your ass!" 12s - all with mental instrum on one side and kerri chandler on the other - don't know anything more than that!

Oh yeah... so great. I love all tracks with piano trill. Krista'fa's Why You Wanna and Newworldaquarium's Trespassers sport one as well.
