D-40, Friday, 2 September 2011 19:29 (fourteen years ago)

making a rough top ten and then noticing this isnt in it grrrrr.

Jay-Z ft. Kanye 'Big Hat Club (Spiritual Big Hat Club Jazz Remix)' (a hoy hoy), Friday, 2 September 2011 19:53 (fourteen years ago)

oh man never heard that shade sheist beat before

hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Friday, 2 September 2011 20:24 (fourteen years ago)

its just aite to me. that shade sheist album has some cool songs but its p average overall. its lol to think that a dude like that could get a fully produced major label record back then tho

D-40, Friday, 2 September 2011 20:26 (fourteen years ago)

shade sheist has as much charisma as an old shoe

J0rdan S., Friday, 2 September 2011 20:28 (fourteen years ago)

that said, b/w "money owners" & "where i wanna be" he can probably die happy

J0rdan S., Friday, 2 September 2011 20:28 (fourteen years ago)

just the bassline is so jazzy for tim. sounds more like a neptunes beat.

hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Friday, 2 September 2011 20:31 (fourteen years ago)

will prob vote that ahead of 'twerk' (sorry tim!)

In truth I feel uncomfortable voting for it myself - content-wise it's one of the ugliest songs I can think of, or at least the contrast between the awesomeness groove and what they're saying really makes the latter sound worse. Esp. when they get that girl to sing "won't you put it in my mouth".

Tim F, Friday, 2 September 2011 21:03 (fourteen years ago)

fwiw that girl is actually timbaland

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Friday, 2 September 2011 21:05 (fourteen years ago)

but yeah it's some nasty shit

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Friday, 2 September 2011 21:05 (fourteen years ago)

haha did nobody notice my "money owners" joke at the top of the thread

some dude, Friday, 2 September 2011 21:10 (fourteen years ago)

I think probably the hardest part of this will be deciding which Missy to vote for. So many deep cuts it'd cut me not to include ("We Did It", "Play That Beat", "Step Off" etc.).

Tim F, Friday, 2 September 2011 21:16 (fourteen years ago)

haha forgot about that

xp

hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Friday, 2 September 2011 21:18 (fourteen years ago)

'old school joint' is my missy deep cut

D-40, Friday, 2 September 2011 21:38 (fourteen years ago)

does that qualify? idk

D-40, Friday, 2 September 2011 21:39 (fourteen years ago)

fwiw that girl is actually timbaland

have i mentioned lately that my favorite Timbaland video moment of all time is the "Hot Boyz" video when Tim is joyfully dancing and lip syncing "HOT BOYZ, WHAT I WANT" -- i'd really love if someone could make a gif of that and send it to me to put at the top of the poll results thread

some dude, Friday, 2 September 2011 21:39 (fourteen years ago)

Had forgotten how amazing the beat to Ms Jade's "Feel The Girl":

http://www.youtube.com./watch?v=jBaPOtjXNOI

Tim F, Friday, 2 September 2011 21:48 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i'm definitely thinking about voting for that. maybe "big head" too.

some dude, Friday, 2 September 2011 21:49 (fourteen years ago)

Also love "Dead Wrong" and "She's A Gangsta" and "Get Away". I'd pretty much forgotten all of these!

First time trying to make animated gifs (or using Photoshop/GIMP tbh), so a bit crude, but ...

obscure Timbo track i love to death and would urge everyone to hear:

Mariah Carey - Skydiving

Mind Taker, Saturday, 3 September 2011 22:11 (fourteen years ago)

Not Tim's best beat or anything but i've always had a soft spot for
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEbwonmvfF0
Fabolous - Right Now and Later On

Number None, Saturday, 3 September 2011 22:25 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, "skydiving" is awesome

J0rdan S., Saturday, 3 September 2011 22:30 (fourteen years ago)

how are people voting in terms of *timb* v. *the artist*?

for example- i <3 the beat for ayo technology but fifty/jt creep me out (the video really didn't help out) as it basically a song about stalking a woman on the assumption that "she wants it, so gotta give it to her".

so is just voting for the beat alone worth it?

otoh there are times when the beat is a bit non descript and the track is still totally killed, so would you be voting for the artist as opposed to timb?

Jay-Z ft. Kanye 'Big Hat Club (Spiritual Big Hat Club Jazz Remix)' (a hoy hoy), Monday, 5 September 2011 08:52 (fourteen years ago)

BUMP

no new ballots in my inbox all weekend, surely somebody is having a lazy Labor Day and has plenty of time to listen to Timbo tracks and vote. are you that somebody?

big spiritual hat club (some dude), Monday, 5 September 2011 17:36 (fourteen years ago)

yeah hang on.

thank got forks showed up!

big spiritual hat club (some dude), Monday, 5 September 2011 17:41 (fourteen years ago)

Trying to get my ballot up to 40 essentials - if it doesn't light me up I'm not gonna vote for it. Shouldn't be a problem with such a prolifically brilliant beatmaker, but there's a lot of Timbaland over the years that I've missed, so yeah, I'm catching up.

Melle Mel and the Coconuts (thewufs), Monday, 5 September 2011 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

the "Hit Em Wit Da Hee" video remix, which is a totally different beat from the Supa Dupa Fly version, really needs to be in this thread:

big spiritual hat club (some dude), Monday, 5 September 2011 18:50 (fourteen years ago)

i want to do this but there's so many songs to choose from ._.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_i_qxQztHRI (Princess TamTam), Monday, 5 September 2011 18:57 (fourteen years ago)

i already know what my Highly Unconventional #1 will be though

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_i_qxQztHRI (Princess TamTam), Monday, 5 September 2011 18:57 (fourteen years ago)

so far all the #1s have been (all due respect to the voters) highly conventional so that would be cool

big spiritual hat club (some dude), Monday, 5 September 2011 19:01 (fourteen years ago)

It's not Chris Cornell is it?

Number None, Monday, 5 September 2011 19:01 (fourteen years ago)

okay that took some work
i just listed 40 songs, if i wanted to pick a number one it would be are you that somebody but i'd rather just share out points equal.

this made me relisten to cornell and diamond dogs and a lot of ugly shit.

thank got forks showed up (forksclovetofu), Monday, 5 September 2011 19:03 (fourteen years ago)

man missy's first album is SO FUCKING GOOD though, there's not much that doesn't belong on a timbo top 40 there

thank got forks showed up (forksclovetofu), Monday, 5 September 2011 19:04 (fourteen years ago)

its probably more like mildly unconventional. definitely not in cornell territory

tim was one of the most important artists of my formative years, because he was my first 'in' to appreciating hip-hop as a rock kid - this will be A Meaningful Poll for me

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_i_qxQztHRI (Princess TamTam), Monday, 5 September 2011 19:25 (fourteen years ago)

fyi all ballots are ranked, there's no "everything equally" option, so if you care about what gets how many points send it to me in that order, if not i'm just counting it in whatever order the ballot is sent to me

big spiritual hat club (some dude), Monday, 5 September 2011 19:28 (fourteen years ago)

i'm kinda with tamtam as this being MEANINGFUL; though i had numerous other earlier ins to hip hop, timbo and missy were hella impactful in college.

thank got forks showed up (forksclovetofu), Monday, 5 September 2011 19:37 (fourteen years ago)

Finally listening to Tim's Bio. WTF is up with this Spider-Man beat? Also, great beats + Timbaland rapping = why, Tim, why?

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Monday, 5 September 2011 20:25 (fourteen years ago)

haha the spiderman one was the SINGLE too

big spiritual hat club (some dude), Monday, 5 September 2011 20:30 (fourteen years ago)

this made me relisten to cornell

there was a dark time in 2009 when i would rep for scream just because it was The Most Ludicrous Thing I Had Ever Listened To.

mutant slow drum (BradNelson), Monday, 5 September 2011 20:53 (fourteen years ago)

just sent in my ballot. the ordering was mostly arbitrary after the top 5 - its really tough to rank this stuff! going through the disco, re-listening to the 03 stuff again was a huge nostalgia bomb. its funny because i remember the murmurings beginning around that point that he had fallen off, but that was a motherfucker of a year for tim

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_i_qxQztHRI (Princess TamTam), Tuesday, 6 September 2011 02:22 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i'm finding a lot of sympathy for later stuff i want to throw votes toward, past 03 even

with five ballots now there are 102 songs with votes, and amazingly only one song with votes from everybody so far (and not a very obvious song at all)

big spiritual hat club (some dude), Tuesday, 6 September 2011 02:53 (fourteen years ago)

6 ballots in, and still a very surprising song in the lead!

some dude, Tuesday, 6 September 2011 13:47 (fourteen years ago)

i never heard "550 What?" before seeing it on Forks's ballot but now i'm really thinking of voting for it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DydZy-37w8U

some dude, Tuesday, 6 September 2011 17:15 (fourteen years ago)

i fucking LOVE 550 what
