tbf has there been a terius leak u havent liked

D-40, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:55 (fourteen years ago)

what does "terius leak" mean?

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:56 (fourteen years ago)

^officially scared to listen to this

I dunno, it meets a need for me. I feel the same way about the Trey Songz "Anticipation" tape; the songs don't really bowl me over, but it's got a good vibe to it, and whenever I need something pleasant (and a little unobtrusive) to listen to, it's there for me in my iTunes

Evan R, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:57 (fourteen years ago)

xp is there solo terius music that i do not like? aside from a song here or there, not really, no

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:57 (fourteen years ago)

i think the album needs to be met on its own terms -- comparing it to his previous three albums doesn't seem right to me because i think it's designed to do different things

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:01 (fourteen years ago)

kinda hate that line of crit-talk tbh, does it bang or does it not bang, that is the questeon

frogsb (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:02 (fourteen years ago)

idk man how about you listen to it

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:03 (fourteen years ago)

gonna when i get home!

which is sort of why i distrust your snap-approval judgment

D-40, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:03 (fourteen years ago)

is it better than either of his three albums? no. that said, i don't think it's that far off of love king, which i think is a solid level or two below his first two albums anyway. but i don't think my post is crit talk anyway, i think terius would agree w/ me. i don't see anything wrong w/ trying to understand the artist's intentions.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:04 (fourteen years ago)

still cant believe ppl find love king to be a step below love vs. money

D-40, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:06 (fourteen years ago)

but anyway, u defended 'let me see the booty' so

well aright -- almost every single person who posts w/ any frequency about the-dream on ilm likes every single one of the-dream's three albums, so i'm not sure how my snap judgment is any different than anyone else's aside from the fact that i like this.

so does brainwasher. lemme know when you invalidate his opinion, too.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:07 (fourteen years ago)

i rep for "let me see the booty" too

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:08 (fourteen years ago)

so does ikonika

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:08 (fourteen years ago)

im not invalidating all of your opinions, just your snap judgments on the dream, particularly when other opinionated ilxors are disagreeing w/ you

D-40, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:09 (fourteen years ago)

i'm talking about by opinions on the dream

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:10 (fourteen years ago)

i think it's formally different enough to merit looking at in a different light; there's such an emphasis on texture and layers on the three solo records, and there's a simpler, clunkier thing with this - the drums sometimes feel pretty brash because they aren't cushioned by deep synth tracks, and his voice isn't nearly as sweet at he usually shoots to make it, imo. i am not crazy about this so far, though i dig some of it, & am looking forward to hearing it on headphones over the next few days, but i don't know if some of the weirder stuff - 1977, say, is gonna work itself into my head.

there's bits that are not great though, yeah, mainly the high energy stuff.

(Chris Isaak Cover) (schlump), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:10 (fourteen years ago)

i think j0rdan and i have different snap judgments on 1977, are u invalidating both of them at the same time?

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:10 (fourteen years ago)

deej have you listened to this? if so, what do you think of it? if not, i'm not sure why i'm arguing w/ you

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:10 (fourteen years ago)

i'm fond of the whole this is niecy album that it's from

― lex pretend, Wednesday, August 31, 2011 3:11 PM (51 minutes ago) Bookmark

It's a classic -- basically an Earth, Wind & Fire album with her as lead vocalist. Second album is classic, too. Stuff gets spottier after that but there are major moments ("Silly" off My Melody, for instance).

So yeah, I'll take Monica's "Everything to Me" over the Nash/Casha version of "Silly" any day.

Casha seems like a fine singer but I guess at this point I'd rather hear him showcase a female singer who sounds like a woman.

idk but you're getting awfully butthurt. everyone here does this to a degree - ive taken enough zings about being a jacka fan & frankly i think im much more likely to shit on one of his songs than you are one of the-dreams

D-40, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:15 (fourteen years ago)

"i drown my liver in this liquor" is a really obtrusively bad lyric

horseshoe, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:15 (fourteen years ago)

so does ikonika

ha i'm guessing most of the people on this thread don't know/care about ikonika

hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:16 (fourteen years ago)

j0rdan is right in that it's clearly not intended to sit up there with the ~love trilogy~

that said i could put together a double cd of terius outtakes and demos that would be better than this

seasoning sauce all over me (tpp), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:16 (fourteen years ago)

seems a lot more consciously diaristic than anything he's ever done before

which means there's a lot more of a sense of ~the real terius~

i'm not getting awfully butthurt, i'm just defending myself & my opinion. and anyway, plenty of ppl have accused you of what you're accusing me of, seems a bit of an odd position for you to take.

fwiw this just means that if lex comes out w/ a measured take of this particular album then i'll be more likely to take it seriously -- "he even liked 'let me see the booty' but he doesnt like this -- not a good sign" -- than if u came out enthusiastically for it

D-40, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:20 (fourteen years ago)

i think my take on this is pretty measured. i just think it's good.

I dont think the-dream is in a position of needing critical cheerleading though, whereas when we put a lot of energy (notably, CRITICAL energy) into covering gucci at first there was a dearth of positive coverage (similar to ... basically any artist ive been accused of 'stanning' for)

D-40, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:21 (fourteen years ago)

i mean i havent even heard it yet! im just saying that when im getting conflicted reports, considering what dream tracks i do not like at all that you've repped for, it means im less likely to agree w your take on it

D-40, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:22 (fourteen years ago)

so how do i get my ipod?

seasoning sauce all over me (tpp), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:23 (fourteen years ago)

there was a time when the-dream needed critical cheerleading. that time has passed. the same exact thing could be said for gucci mane. or waka flocka flame. or lil wayne.

but i'm not and haven't been cheerleading for this album. i just think it's good.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:24 (fourteen years ago)

lol i first heard of the dream through ikonika, reading an interview with her in the metro, she was naming her albums of the year and love vs money was one of them

xxpost

right but this is just about your expectations, again, since you haven't heard it. my "cheerleading" for the-dream is certainly not unique on ilx, or at this point outside of it. i just happen to have a differing opinion on this album. it has nothing to do w/ anything i've said previous to this. i could very well be right.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:27 (fourteen years ago)

this is getting exceedingly pedantic but yah your past record on the-dream singles impacts how seriously i take your evaluation on them going forward as im sure would be true for any of us

well this is certainly a pretty interesting thing to bring up?

lol i first heard of the dream through ikonika, reading an interview with her in the metro, she was naming her albums of the year and love vs money was one of them

lollll i remember talking to her ahead of this feature, she was all like "i don't know how to narrow down what i want to pick"

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:31 (fourteen years ago)

i'm with j0rdan on this but you probably shouldn't trust me about that either because i think the rawk outro in the pharrell track is hilarious? maybe next listen i will find it terrifying

but still i think it's a good record of exercises in mood

i like "wake me when it's over", this isn't the look i really want dream to be pursuing but as dream-doing-drake-doing-dream it's ok

frogsb (k3vin k.), Thursday, 1 September 2011 03:50 (fourteen years ago)

"used to be"

his vocals on this kinda remind me of the least listenable parts of love king - no real form to the songwriting here at all or hook really, production is really weak too, who produced this? is this whole thing pure terius? *checks wikipedia*

frogsb (k3vin k.), Thursday, 1 September 2011 03:53 (fourteen years ago)

i guess in feel "long gone" is supposed to be like the 1977 analog to LvM's title tracks or "abyss" on the last one - i've always felt kind of alone in saying these epic feeling joints were easily his weakest material - for me they seem to trade songcraft and other things dream really does well for "atmosphere" or whatever - mercifully this is short
