jojo single is disappointingly regressive considering "marvin's room (can't do better)" is one of my trax of the year

ditto kelly c considering the stuff that leaked last month

come ON, pop stars, we know you can do better

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 18:25 (fourteen years ago)

why would anyone's remix of a Drakesadpanda anthem be anyone's track of the year

lil dawg (some dude), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

Because she makes it genuinely affecting and narrated by an interesting character instead of fucking Drake.

Somewhere between Fergie and Jesus (Alex in Montreal), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 18:35 (fourteen years ago)

man, I thought "Moves Like Jagger" would die ignominiously after its early peak in July; now it's played three times an hour.

a 'catch-all', almost humorous, 'Jeez' quality (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 18:39 (fourteen years ago)

i still haven't heard it on the radio, which is weird because i at least check in w/ the local top 40 station pretty regularly

lil dawg (some dude), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 18:40 (fourteen years ago)

i've heard it once on the radio, which i don't listen to too much these days, but still: once

markers, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 18:41 (fourteen years ago)

why would anyone's remix of a Drakesadpanda anthem be anyone's track of the year

great lyrics, great performance, no trace of drake

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 18:42 (fourteen years ago)

i hear the Levine/Travie collab more (xpost)

lil dawg (some dude), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 18:43 (fourteen years ago)

i know i know, i'm alone in thinking the Noah "40" Shebib underwater moping chamber sound is almost as loathsome as the vocals Drake applies to it

lil dawg (some dude), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 18:44 (fourteen years ago)

i don't think i'd stan for that style of production but it's a bit too malleable to either love or hate as a thing - right song/singer, it comes into its own, wrong song/singer, it's execrable and lazy

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 18:48 (fourteen years ago)

"marvin's room" is in my top 10/15 tracks this year

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 18:49 (fourteen years ago)

yeah her version of "marvin's room" is great. i have to say though i am really impressed by "disaster" as well despite the fact that it follows the jojo-hit template very closely.

kelly clarkson's single :(

teledyldonix, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 18:50 (fourteen years ago)

funnily enough right after posting that i went to run an errand, and in the car one of the D.C. R&B stations was playing the JoJo version (or rather a blend of it and the Drake version). it's aight but c'mon. j0rdan calling Bieber's version of "Trust Issues" interesting prompted the same feeling in me -- like wholesome-looking young white folks doing versions of dark debauched songs by rap stars is an idea that's older than YouTube and surely has been bled dry by the last few years of webcam kids.

lil dawg (some dude), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:19 (fourteen years ago)

i was calling the bieber version of "trust issues" "interesting" in the lightest sense

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:20 (fourteen years ago)

i did have to listen to it just to see if he says "bitches" 50 times like the Drake version but he changes it to "women"

lil dawg (some dude), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:26 (fourteen years ago)

i actually heard jojo's "marvin's room" before i'd heard the drake song (and before i knew it was a remix), i just thought it was a super-good song

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:26 (fourteen years ago)

ditto

surm, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:31 (fourteen years ago)

also her version is more dark and debauched, or at least strung out and medicated, than his

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:32 (fourteen years ago)

i'm just saying you can do better

lil dawg (some dude), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:35 (fourteen years ago)

why does everyone hate drake?

surm, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:36 (fourteen years ago)

that's a complicated question

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:36 (fourteen years ago)

i don't hate him anymore, i think his album might be good

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:37 (fourteen years ago)

why does everyone hate drake?

he has the worst voice in the world

lil dawg (some dude), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:39 (fourteen years ago)

drake = tampon rap

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:42 (fourteen years ago)

also, and this is totally aside from his music and wholly irrational, he has the most instantly punchable face I have ever seen on a celebrity

basically every time I see or hear him, I feel a primal urge to destroy him

beemer douchebag (DJP), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:42 (fourteen years ago)

i don't hate him anymore, i think his album might be good

you caved in to katy perry and ke$ha too iirc. i call stockholm syndrome

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:43 (fourteen years ago)

i love one ke$ha song and two katy perry songs, i'd hardly call that caving!

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:44 (fourteen years ago)

he has the most instantly punchable face I have ever seen on a celebrity

otm, his eyes are too far apart. he's kind of like a male justine henin but at least she had skillz to compensate

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:44 (fourteen years ago)

i call that caving!

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:44 (fourteen years ago)

I guess it's conceivable that Drake might release a song that won't make me want to hunt and slay but I'm not holding my breath

also, for me anyway, I liked both Katy Perry and Ke$ha from the get-go and didn't start finding them annoying until subsequent songs; there is still a foundation there that is capable of producing songs I really enjoy with both of them, whereas with Drake he basically just ruins songs I otherwise love (yes I am looking at you, "What's My Name")

beemer douchebag (DJP), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:45 (fourteen years ago)

i'm saying that the drake album MIGHT be good. who knows.

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:46 (fourteen years ago)

j0rd to be fair you did liveblog the katy album

lil dawg (some dude), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:46 (fourteen years ago)

and i said that half of it was pure shit

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:47 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i know i'm just saying i can see where lex gets the 'caving in' from

lil dawg (some dude), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:48 (fourteen years ago)

oh

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:49 (fourteen years ago)

ke$ha is better than shitty drake and shitty katy perry

prego, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 19:57 (fourteen years ago)

i don't think i would ever listen to this kelly clarkson song again

surm, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 20:00 (fourteen years ago)

ke$ha is better than shitty drake and shitty katy perry

i don't think i would ever listen to this kelly clarkson song again

markers, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:43 (fourteen years ago)

prego, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:44 (fourteen years ago)

dudes i'm pretty pumped about that news

lil dawg (some dude), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:49 (fourteen years ago)

i mean, that means like a half a year with no new ke$ha songs on the radio? that's the dream right there

lil dawg (some dude), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:49 (fourteen years ago)

lol, there could still be more singles of cannibal

prego, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:50 (fourteen years ago)

sleazy

prego, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:51 (fourteen years ago)

also, and this is totally aside from his music and wholly irrational, he has the most instantly punchable face I have ever seen on a celebrity

Drake is also Canadian.

a 'catch-all', almost humorous, 'Jeez' quality (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:53 (fourteen years ago)

before Take Care leaks i'm hoping to distribute a fake tracklist with songs like "Canadians In The Club [ft. Nelly Furtado and Justin Bieber]"

lil dawg (some dude), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:58 (fourteen years ago)
