brrr-icane aye-rene (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 29 August 2011 05:09 (fourteen years ago)

"u smile" is the worst song to be played on this broadcast at any point

J0rdan S., Monday, 29 August 2011 05:09 (fourteen years ago)

oh man bieber thanked jesus????????????? c'mon dude

J0rdan S., Monday, 29 August 2011 05:09 (fourteen years ago)

J0rdan's dedication to liveblogging transcends things even being live anymore

step your 'îron game up, jamie xx (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 29 August 2011 05:10 (fourteen years ago)

this re-writing of chris brown's career to make it seem like that vma performance in vegas was anything more than... a vma performance in vegas (in which the whole show was just a huge disaster) is pretty special

J0rdan S., Monday, 29 August 2011 05:11 (fourteen years ago)

i'm not really dedicated to liveblogging -- just watching this cuz i was out to dinner & my life is basically spent posting on ilx, so what're ya gonna do

J0rdan S., Monday, 29 August 2011 05:11 (fourteen years ago)

i can handle breezy on the radio, but fuck this guy as anything more than a disembodied voice

J0rdan S., Monday, 29 August 2011 05:12 (fourteen years ago)

idk i remember everyone being all O_O at that chris brown performance cuz he danced on the table. performance kind of rose him from star to superstar iirc?

step your 'îron game up, jamie xx (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 29 August 2011 05:12 (fourteen years ago)

it's too bad that his trip thru grunge didn't end up w/ him shooting himself in the temple with a shotgun amirite

J0rdan S., Monday, 29 August 2011 05:13 (fourteen years ago)

idk i mostly remember ppl being "that was cool, but he's still not as good of a dancer as usher"

J0rdan S., Monday, 29 August 2011 05:13 (fourteen years ago)

markers, Monday, 29 August 2011 05:13 (fourteen years ago)

it was really nice of mtv to cool my "fuck chris brown" thoughts by immediately following his performance with fucking jessie j singing "no scrubs"

J0rdan S., Monday, 29 August 2011 05:16 (fourteen years ago)

you know Tyler is old enough to remember MTV which is why he was suitably geeked; but I wonder whats gonna happen in like 5 or 10 years when teenage stars only know MTV as the Jersey Shore channel

who decided to turn all of britney's classics into ibiza bloodfarts

J0rdan S., Monday, 29 August 2011 05:23 (fourteen years ago)

^ instant classic post

*steens furiHOOSly* (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Monday, 29 August 2011 05:36 (fourteen years ago)

i didn't coin that phrase btw

J0rdan S., Monday, 29 August 2011 05:39 (fourteen years ago)

aw @ tyler's mom

J0rdan S., Monday, 29 August 2011 05:39 (fourteen years ago)

Is this thread reacting to a west coast feed or something?

billstevejim, Monday, 29 August 2011 05:59 (fourteen years ago)

it's just me watching the show because i was out to dinner

J0rdan S., Monday, 29 August 2011 06:00 (fourteen years ago)

I still have no power so just wondering.. thread is entertaining regardless.

billstevejim, Monday, 29 August 2011 06:01 (fourteen years ago)

also let me just say idg the big deal with CB's dancing -- he's coordinated sure but so spastic and tryhard, absolutely no grace or subtlety to his movements

THANK YOU SOMEONE FOR FINALLY SAYING THIS. I've always, always looked at his dancing as being much more invested in athletic than aesthetic, and I've been rolling my eyes at the people who praise his dancing for the better part of a decade now.

markers aurelius (The Reverend), Monday, 29 August 2011 08:20 (fourteen years ago)

It really sucks to watch award shows from the West Coast in the internet age. Fuck this three-hour delay shit.

Funniest moment for me was when my sister heard the opening guitar of "No Scrubs" and she immediately goes "Oh no", with her face sinking in glum precognition of what was about to happen.

markers aurelius (The Reverend), Monday, 29 August 2011 08:24 (fourteen years ago)

btw, Bruno Mars >> Adele

markers aurelius (The Reverend), Monday, 29 August 2011 08:25 (fourteen years ago)

nah

J0rdan S., Monday, 29 August 2011 08:26 (fourteen years ago)

bruno mars couldn't touch this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ri49XBQ23kA

J0rdan S., Monday, 29 August 2011 08:26 (fourteen years ago)

I really can't stand her.

markers aurelius (The Reverend), Monday, 29 August 2011 08:30 (fourteen years ago)

I can't take the way she vocalizes and something about her whole presentation and persona really just rubs me the wrong way.

markers aurelius (The Reverend), Monday, 29 August 2011 08:30 (fourteen years ago)

if bruno mars wrote anything even remotely as affecting as "someone like you" i would personally send him a hand written letter of apology for talking mad shit about him on the internet for his whole career

J0rdan S., Monday, 29 August 2011 08:31 (fourteen years ago)

Her unpretentiousness seems so contrived to me.

markers aurelius (The Reverend), Monday, 29 August 2011 08:33 (fourteen years ago)

I don't know if Bruno has written a song as good as "Someone Like You" because I can't get 30 seconds into Adele singing it.

markers aurelius (The Reverend), Monday, 29 August 2011 08:34 (fourteen years ago)

The way she sings is just really nails on chalkboard to my ears.

markers aurelius (The Reverend), Monday, 29 August 2011 08:35 (fourteen years ago)

Bruno is total sap and a dodgy songwriter, but a hell of a performer.

markers aurelius (The Reverend), Monday, 29 August 2011 08:36 (fourteen years ago)

I mean, I basically agree with Al's "50%" assertion upthread, with the addendum that when he's on, he's ON.

markers aurelius (The Reverend), Monday, 29 August 2011 08:38 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i'll give him that -- maybe i would feel okay about him if instead of hearing his bullshit on the radio a little mini version of him popped up on my dashboard with a little mini band and they performed a song & then went away for 5 months

J0rdan S., Monday, 29 August 2011 08:38 (fourteen years ago)

And I'm glad they got him to do the Amy tribute instead of going the more obvious route, cause Adele's Sarah Mclachlan-disguised as soulster ass would have butchered it.

markers aurelius (The Reverend), Monday, 29 August 2011 08:40 (fourteen years ago)

haha xp

markers aurelius (The Reverend), Monday, 29 August 2011 08:40 (fourteen years ago)

yeah he was a decent choice -- the thing about it was that he could do an up tempo song and make more of a fun, celebratory thing than if they had someone singing one of her ballads

J0rdan S., Monday, 29 August 2011 08:44 (fourteen years ago)

it's weird, thinking more about it, thankfully she did a song like "valerie" bcuz they couldn't do a tribute by singing "rehab" obviously, and even "you know i'm no good" and "back in black" would have a weird undertone after her death

J0rdan S., Monday, 29 August 2011 08:46 (fourteen years ago)

Right. In that regard, maybe "Valerie" wasn't as odd of a choice as it looked. Pretty much anything from Back to Black would have either been too down, or too close to the bone, or both, and the stuff from Frank isn't well-known enough. I had assumed it was going to be a medley when it started though.
