also, Dig pretty much covers that period of the band so some of the songs might be familiar.

A few of the songs in the film appear on the Tepid Peppermint compilation.

The album they're working on for TVT in the film, Strung Out in Heaven isn't featured in the film at all, as TVT wouldn't allow it.

The title of Anton's latest bulletin:

they can hear them scream in london! fuck george bush

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 15 October 2005 00:50 (twenty years ago)

Where can I read that bulletin, Ned?

What is the BJM song that says "I walked to New York and back from LA"? Google is failing me.

Roxymuzak, Mrs. Carbohydrate (roxymuzak), Monday, 28 November 2005 16:35 (twenty years ago)

and something like "i lived on a mountain that was by the bay" and lots of garble about jesus

Roxymuzak, Mrs. Carbohydrate (roxymuzak), Monday, 28 November 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

urgh

Roxymuzak, Mrs. Carbohydrate (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 14:22 (twenty years ago)

Argh, I know that one too, but the name escapes me. "I prayed to Buddha and Jesus and Jim..." or something like that.

Please Snap StressTwig (kate), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

ex-bjm'er joel was on the gilmore girls last week, anyone catch it?

heywood jablomi (heywood), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 19:01 (twenty years ago)

It's "The Ballad of Jim Jones".

On the subject, does anyone know what the song being played with the credits is on "Dig!"... Please don't say it's the Dandy Warhols.

KeefW (kmw), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 19:06 (twenty years ago)

ex-bjm'er joel was on the gilmore girls last week, anyone catch it?

yes, that was funny

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 19:13 (twenty years ago)

apparently he's been asked back for two or three more episodes this season...

heywood jablomi (heywood), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 19:20 (twenty years ago)

Well, the song at the end of Dig! is "Nevertheless" by BJM. I don't know if that's in the credits, though.

Roxymuzak, Mrs. Carbohydrate (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 29 November 2005 20:29 (twenty years ago)

Thankyou... But I'm afraid that's not the one I mean. It's got brass on it... Still dunno what it is!

alot of you young people ask me when i'm going to make new music.

well i just released a six song e.p.,played in france had all of my gear stolen and fuck right off.

i'm writing but more importantly,i've put out 16 albums...most of it is for free on the web.

let's see any of the bands on myspace do that.

how much room do you think they have in a record store?

you fucking make an album.

but i degress,i plan to record with kevin shields in the new year.

until then.

go jack off or smoke crack but don't tell me what to do.

thanks,

howell huser (chaki), Thursday, 22 December 2005 07:43 (twenty years ago)

I heard some mp3s on a friend's computer, and I really enjoyed it - all the songs I heard were rather nice drone stuff. However, I watched 'Dig!' the other day and most of the songs were sixties throwback rock which I didn't like much. What's a good drone album?

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 22 December 2005 11:42 (twenty years ago)

It might be the other Kevin Shields.

So, I just heard them for the first time. I downloaded Methodrone and it sounds like "Sing" era Blur, but more wiggy. Is this a good album?

Wogan Lenin (dog latin), Thursday, 12 January 2006 16:38 (twenty years ago)

Methodrone is excellent, it's their almost shoegaze album with some particularly majestic moments towards the end.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 12 January 2006 16:45 (twenty years ago)

Well, I haven't listened to it all, but I like "Crushed". Do you think the Albarn-esque vocals are done on purpose or just a coincidence. Or am I mad and they don't sound anything like early BLur?

Imagine Homer's head in that white messiah-suit, playing
the sitar. Imagine him chugging Duff beers and ranting and
raving on stage. That would be sweet.

one year passes...

So, um, Anton's leaked his own new album.

I've only been able to listen to 3 songs, due to format issues (stupid work computer won't play stupid m4a files).

2 of the tracks were wibbling freak folk meanderings recorded at the bottom of a fjord. The third one was actually really interesting. I'm kind of scared to listen to the rest of the album.

Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 16:46 (eighteen years ago)

Oh yeah... title is "My Bloody Underground" - JUST STOP THAT RIGHT NOW, YOU!!!!

Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 16:47 (eighteen years ago)

Such 'jammed bandwidth' I'm getting 300KBps download. Dude may have overestimated the number of people who still care about him.

milo z, Monday, 3 September 2007 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

I think if anything, post-Dig, more people care about him than back in the day. (He always used to post rough mixes of his new songs. I don't know why I botherd buying Zero, I'd had all the MP3s on download.)

So I've just heard it is "not finished yet". Interesting.

Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

The trouble with all this hyper-referential stuff is that in taking it seriously, you are acknowledging just how small "rock" has become.

Being into BJM is no better than collecting garden gnomes, or joining the "Sealed Knot".

In fact it's worse, as the social opportunities are scarcer.

PhilK, Monday, 3 September 2007 18:34 (eighteen years ago)

Being into something != "taking it seriously".

It is all part of the wider smorgasboard of music.

And don't be so sure about that social opportunities thing...

Masonic Boom, Monday, 3 September 2007 18:36 (eighteen years ago)

I think you'll find the Sealed Knot take it very seriously. Don't risk a musket ball by suggesting to them otherwise.

Tell me more about the BJM socials.......

OK, they've turned into the best Spacemen 3 tribute band I've ever seen. At least they do when Anton sits down on the floor and decides he's not going to play any more and Carruthers takes over for 20-minute space-jams. Tee hee hee.

That wasn't just one of those endless Keep Music Evil rumours? he really is back?

As with anything BJM-related, nothing is set until they're on stage but here's what I know...

Collin missed the last European tour because of scheduling conflicts with his wedding. He was with the BJM in Australia and New Zealand in August.

It's always possible/probable that Will Carruthers will play with the BJM again at some point.

The line up for the 2009 U.S. tour for all the dates will be-

Anton
Frankie
Joel
Matt H.
Ricky
Rob C.
Collin
Dan

Chris Barrus (Elvis Telecom), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 02:03 (seventeen years ago)

OK, so I'm listening to the new BJM song "This Is The One Thing We Did Not" and it's a blatant blatant blatant rip of "She's Lost Control." It's as dead on of a rip as "This Is Why You Love Me" is to "Feel A Whole Lot Better" and so yeah, OK, we know what's going to happen. However, midway through, Anton puts in one of those preposterously catchy choruses that he's expert at and the whole thing works together. Since it's a BJM song, everything kinda shambles and you aren't sure if everything is in tune, but damnit I like it. A lot.

All other post-BRMC/fuzz/slog/self-aware bands please step aside.

jaxon, Thursday, 29 October 2009 01:58 (sixteen years ago)

was this all over a random member of the current live band saying something re red meat/politics ?

no, newcombe had spent the whole tour antagonising the audiences and arguing with some of the band and fights had nearly broken out at some of the previous shows apparently. newcombe was apparently in a terrible mood after the promoter had held him at knifepoint (?!) earlier and was barely able to sing that night, and kept antagonising the audience (who heckled him back) and left long gaps between songs. the fight was apparently only a handful of songs in

the bandmember speaking at the start i think could be making a veiled criticism of newcombe/the audience antagonising each other but he isn't the one involved in the fight.
