heh, i'm going out now, so i'm gonna have to skip this one
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 25 August 2011 02:06 (fourteen years ago)
i'm kind of curious whether this album will or can be seen as any kind of failure, like the buzz around it seemed so muted even before the leak despite him being on the radio more than ever

i had this thought, too. honestly this is below my expectations bcuz i think it's the first time he's really not been able to carry his own album

I barely made it through the song that the various hip hop blogs are claiming is a "Jay-Z diss" - what does he say, exactly?(I had to bail after "I lay 'em down.... TEMPURPEDIC")
― She Got the Shakes, Thursday, 25 August 2011 13:49 (fourteen years ago)
'Outro' is okay, for Busta if nothing else.

i don't even understand how the original Jay-Z "Baby money" line was a Wayne diss

that first song sucked ass
yeah to get my grumpy old man on...rap beef is so fucking passive aggressive and vague now...like jesus bring back some vicious shit like "no vaseline" or "2nd round ko" or something...all these nonsensical subliminals are so lame

i've been meaning to create some kind of blog or twitter meme or something about horrible 'wisdom' in Weezy lyrics like "if it ain't broke don't break it" or "see if you can lend an opinion before you make one"

"She Will" is almost great, the rest is almost awful.

i'm not even sure that it's actually a diss! this is the problem when you take the name "baby" imo
but then again i think ppl on the intenet are always looking for subliminal disses that don't exist
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 30 August 2011 17:29 (fourteen years ago)
yeah totally. i took the line as Baby was on the Forbes list, so Jay uses him as an example of people non-wealthy rappers claim to be as rich as.
― ✇ ruehl (some dude), Tuesday, 30 August 2011 17:51 (fourteen years ago)
the worst one recently was people claiming drake was "dissing" jay-z & kanye on "i'm on one" by saying "the throne is for the taking / watch me take it" (or whatever) -- and then ppl were saying that kanye DISSED DRAKE by saying "niggas talking real reckless / stuntmen"
just the vaguest possible shit
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 30 August 2011 17:55 (fourteen years ago)
talkin real DRAKELESS

Never mind 2005-2008, how did Wayne go from "6 Foot 7 Foot" to this? I don't know that it's terrible like some people are saying here - Wayne's performance is generally lax, but the beats are pretty good throughout - but he had 3 years to do this, and he's contributed more than an album's worth of excellent verses elsewhere in that time. I mean, this is a substantial dropoff even from I Am Not A Human Being, which was supposed to be rejected tracks. Maybe he needs to start saving his best work in one place rather than starting from scratch on long-aborning projects every six months because the mood strikes him. Or maybe all the drugs actually worked for him, to a point anyway. Or maybe he just hasn't figured out what a clean and sober Weezy is supposed to sound like.
― Melle Mel and the Coconuts (thewufs), Tuesday, 30 August 2011 18:50 (fourteen years ago)
i doubt he's 100% sober
he exhausted the territory he excels at and lost his passion for rapping and got more interested in pretending to play the guitar years ago basically
― ✇ ruehl (some dude), Tuesday, 30 August 2011 19:41 (fourteen years ago)
Weezy lyrics like "if it ain't broke don't break it"
i actually really like this but i break a lot of stuff so
― (Chris Isaak Cover) (schlump), Tuesday, 30 August 2011 19:51 (fourteen years ago)
like i can imagine it becoming a sort of mantra or useful when-in-rome style idiom that i actually incorporate into my day

I was killing time in a Best Buy today and was sad to see Andre didn't even warrant a credit on the back cover, even though Tech N9ne got one for their "interlude".
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 03:38 (fourteen years ago)
lol c'mon dude
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 03:42 (fourteen years ago)
I'm just sayin', if you're going to go ahead and credit one dude on your "interlude", why not the guy with, arguably, the bigger profile?
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 03:43 (fourteen years ago)
tell me which of these is more likely:
lil wayne & his record label think that andre 3000 is so unimportant that they neglected and/or forgot to credit him on the cd
OR
lil wayne thinks that an andre 3000 verse is so special and cool that he intentionally didn't credit him on the cd or on any advance release of the tracklist so that it was a surprise to the listener when he started rapping
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 03:44 (fourteen years ago)
lil wayne was too stoned to remember who was or was not on his record
― strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 03:48 (fourteen years ago)
I guess I wasn't reading into it that much, because it's not like there's been this whole huge deal about "OMG SURPRISE VERSE" on heavily publicized rap albums.
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 03:48 (fourteen years ago)
Also, I know you love to be condescending as fuck to people J0rdan, but I was actually thinking the reason was option c) some stupid label politics shit that meant he couldn't be credited for whatever reason.

i do remember reading someone (i guess on twitter?) being like "wow surprise andre verse!" so whether that was the intention that was the effect to some degree
― ✇ ruehl (some dude), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 11:01 (fourteen years ago)
I was like "wow surprise andre verse!" when i had my one and only listen to this
― Number None, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 12:05 (fourteen years ago)
me too. it actually was kind of exciting in the leaked tracklist era
― Jacques_Lamure, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 12:47 (fourteen years ago)
Well that was what I was getting at, it seems now so much more common now to have these fully leaked tracklists that let you know anyone with even half a bar (slightly exagerrating here) on the track. Its like, look at all these names! You want to buy this!
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 13:55 (fourteen years ago)
it would've been funny if 50% of the back cover of the last Kanye album was just listing the "All of the Lights" guests
― lil dawg (some dude), Wednesday, 31 August 2011 14:42 (fourteen years ago)
i really want to make a list of every shitty zen koan on this album
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 31 August 2011 18:26 (fourteen years ago)
i don't think i'll be able to stomach listening to the whole album so if you want to take my idea and run with it be my guest!

Lol @ "It's Good". Tunechi is all, "oh yeah Kanye? King Crimson? Here's Alan Parsons Project. First album. Who's the prog pro now bitch?"
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Wednesday, 31 August 2011 22:19 (fourteen years ago)
I mean, even 'Megaman' has the punchlines "Have it your way... BURGER KING"
at long last, Weezy has become Wesley Willis
