you'd almost think they would just not even have him there, like the rolling stones and their bass player.

should we poll the song titles they've announced already. i would vote "junior dad"

tylerw, Wednesday, 24 August 2011 22:19 (fourteen years ago)

something genuinely touching about Lou in that new photo. Can't quite work out what the eww/awww factor is tho.

Darren Huckerby (Dwight Yorke), Wednesday, 24 August 2011 22:21 (fourteen years ago)

The only thing genuinely touching is that new guy and his balls.

NickB, Wednesday, 24 August 2011 22:29 (fourteen years ago)

there's a 19 minute long track called 'Junior Dad'

There's a version of this song on youtube btw with Lou, Laurie & John Zorn and some other dudes. And it sounds like a mess with those guys, so who knows how it'll end up?

buzza, Thursday, 25 August 2011 00:50 (fourteen years ago)

i don't think enough people are freaking about about "Little Dog"

Metallica and Lou Reed sat together in the studio and said, "This is a song we have performed together. The name of this song will be Little Dog"

marinate on that

fela cudi (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 25 August 2011 18:06 (fourteen years ago)

oh shit, they just revealed the cover art

tylerw, Thursday, 25 August 2011 18:16 (fourteen years ago)

i wonder if the guys in metallica got a say in naming any of the songs

markers, Thursday, 25 August 2011 18:17 (fourteen years ago)

LOU MADE METALLICA CRY!!!

A recent recording session with Lou Reed left Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett and frontman James Hetfield a blubbering mess. The group were working on a song called ‘Junior Dad’ for their upcoming collaborative album called ‘Lulu.’ The lyric, “Say hello to junior dad / The greatest disappointment / Age withered and changed him,” stopped the show.

“(Reed) managed to take out both guitar players in Metallica in one fell swoop with his amazing poetic lyrics,” Hammett tells Britain’s Mojo magazine. Hetfield’s father abandoned him when he was 13. Hammett was struggling with the recent loss of his father.

“I had just lost my father literally three or four weeks previous,” he said. “I had to run out of the control room, and I found myself standing in the kitchen, sobbing away. James came into the kitchen in the same condition. He was sobbing too. It was insane.”

Somehow the world seems a more peaceful place knowing that two of rock ‘n’ roll’s heaviest hitters aren’t afraid to share a good cry from time to time. One figures they hugged it out and got back to work quickly. ‘Lulu’ — in stores Nov. 1 — is an album based on music Reed had originally written for a theatrical production. He changed course after playing with Metallica at the 2009 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concert in New York City.
