any major based god will swag you (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 19 August 2011 20:09 (fourteen years ago)

lou always has really weird guitars. there could probably be a whole thread devoted to that.

keepin it classy.
i think the guitar lou is playing might be a "moog guitar"?

it's funny that a dude known for some of the more junky lo-fi recordings of the rock era is such a gear head.

tylerw, Friday, 19 August 2011 20:30 (fourteen years ago)

lol that he's wearing a shirt of himself

this was a whole "phase" he went through

that mellow wash of meh (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 19 August 2011 20:42 (fourteen years ago)

if i were lou reed i would wear a shirt of myself

steens furiously (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Friday, 19 August 2011 20:47 (fourteen years ago)

"Who the Fuck is John Cale" shirts were sold out, presumably

that mellow wash of meh (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 19 August 2011 20:49 (fourteen years ago)

i only wear shirts with my face on it

markers, Friday, 19 August 2011 20:55 (fourteen years ago)

hardcore oatmeal (Jordan), Friday, 19 August 2011 21:01 (fourteen years ago)

looks like one of these http://www.ctbasses.com/

some kinda alembic knockoff because I guess a real alembic isn't boutique enough for lou haha

ha i saw lou a few years back and whenever i remember it i just remember the quiet part between songs when everyone was changing up and he picked up a guitar and said this, and there was a pause, is a seven-string guitar

lol
i have a bootleg from the early 00s where lou stops in the middle of the song to point out that his second guitarist has some effect that makes his guitar sound like a piano. "you're playing a guitar? how does it sound like a piano." the audience sounds unimpressed.

tylerw, Friday, 19 August 2011 21:27 (fourteen years ago)

from mojo
the extent to which the process has succeeded largely depends on one's appetite for Lou Reed declaiming over relentless dirge-riffing, but what's beyond doubt is the albums remarkable fusion of extreme components

tylerw, Saturday, 20 August 2011 21:01 (fourteen years ago)

there's a 19 minute long track called 'Junior Dad'

tylerw, Saturday, 20 August 2011 21:04 (fourteen years ago)

xp it seems this collaboration is really bringing out the worst in everyone

sonderangerbot, Saturday, 20 August 2011 21:18 (fourteen years ago)

the audience sounds unimpressed.

just wanna add this to my anecdote & any other recollections of that evening. like that semi-disdainful reverence-demanding distance between performer and crowd.

sweatpants life trajectory (schlump), Saturday, 20 August 2011 21:26 (fourteen years ago)

someone using the word 'fusion' really bodes well for this collaboration btw, it's usually busted out for good cause

sweatpants life trajectory (schlump), Saturday, 20 August 2011 21:27 (fourteen years ago)

A fusion of this project and Kanye/Jay-Z would really make this a life changing event.

Siegbran, Saturday, 20 August 2011 21:32 (fourteen years ago)

dammit. lou should really be out there tweetin' about this.
still, they've set up the account, there's no going back now. this is happening.

tylerw, Monday, 22 August 2011 15:27 (fourteen years ago)

It had to go through Lou. Taxed and tariffed.

"Lulu": great name guys. Is it a concept album about the Scottish popstrel?

Neil S, Monday, 22 August 2011 15:29 (fourteen years ago)

Close. Tribute to her erstwhile husband Maurice Gibb as seen through her eyes.

tylerw, Monday, 22 August 2011 15:32 (fourteen years ago)

(guess it's actually based on "various stories originally written by the German playwright Frank Wedekind", which inspired the various lulu plays/operas/movies/etc. is there a song called pandora's box here or what)

tylerw, Monday, 22 August 2011 15:33 (fourteen years ago)

Does it have a G.W. Pabst character singing about Louise Brooks being "such a perfect wit"?

Viriconium Island Baby (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 22 August 2011 15:34 (fourteen years ago)

definitely. also a cover of john cale's "jack the ripper"

Viriconium Island Baby (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 22 August 2011 15:52 (fourteen years ago)

Every time I see a photo of the new guy in Metallica I'm all "Who's THAT clown...oh yeah, him."

Ned Raggett, Monday, 22 August 2011 15:56 (fourteen years ago)

you'd almost think they would just not even have him there, like the rolling stones and their bass player.

tylerw, Monday, 22 August 2011 15:58 (fourteen years ago)

Somebody should do a shop of The Notorious Metallica Brothers

(sorry for iPhone glitch post)

Viriconium Island Baby (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 22 August 2011 16:01 (fourteen years ago)

wait when did Lou start wearing white footwear

Master of Treacle, Monday, 22 August 2011 16:12 (fourteen years ago)

We're still between Memorial and Labor Days, after all.

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 22 August 2011 16:23 (fourteen years ago)

hope there's some quality backing vocals a la "u flush it out, u flush it out"

markers, Monday, 22 August 2011 18:50 (fourteen years ago)

kind of hilarious that they are rolling out song titles one by one. o god, what will the next song title be!

tylerw, Wednesday, 24 August 2011 22:15 (fourteen years ago)

lol

markers, Wednesday, 24 August 2011 22:17 (fourteen years ago)

should we poll the song titles they've announced already. i would vote "junior dad"

tylerw, Wednesday, 24 August 2011 22:19 (fourteen years ago)

something genuinely touching about Lou in that new photo. Can't quite work out what the eww/awww factor is tho.

Darren Huckerby (Dwight Yorke), Wednesday, 24 August 2011 22:21 (fourteen years ago)

The only thing genuinely touching is that new guy and his balls.
