through being dave cool (markers), Wednesday, 17 August 2011 20:35 (fourteen years ago)

oh yeah, it's cool -- it's just that i don't think i've ever seen a rock documentary where a band came across so terribly. they all seem deeply, deeply lame.

tylerw, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 20:35 (fourteen years ago)

lars's dad seems pretty rad

Record Collector: Rumor has it you aren't happy with the way you come across in the forthcoming METALLICA movie, "Some Kind Of Monster"?

Dave Mustaine: "No I wasn't. They edited out a lot more stuff than was there and they sent it to me for my approval. I said, I don't want you to use it. It was two days after 9/11, on my 40th birthday. I was supposed to be at home getting an AMG CL55 Mercedes from my family as a present, and I'm here with one of the guys that I've hated the most in my entire life — my entire existence on the planet — making a video tape in San Francisco, because I can't fly to Phoenix to see my family. And they sent me the tape and I said, 'No, I don't want you to use it,' and they went ahead and used it anyway. I'm like, 'Why send it to me for my approval if, when I say I don't like it, you go ahead and use it anyway?' "

Record Collector: Wasn't your approval a legal requirement?

Dave Mustaine: "Well, see, they said that I signed the paper so they figured, 'Fuck him, he's signed the paper.' You may remember September 13th, New York was still on fire, we had been up non-stop watching CNN. Everywhere you went, people were freaking out over white powder, there were bomb threats everywhere, you were having all kinds of fuckin' radical military maneuvers and shit... it was a war.

How would famous rock stars ever meet if it weren't for the connections of deceased free jazz pocket trumpetists and their plugged-in offspring?

the wheelie king (wk), Thursday, 18 August 2011 22:29 (fourteen years ago)

it's true, if not for ornette coleman, chickenfoot might never have existed

any major based god will swag you (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 19 August 2011 18:57 (fourteen years ago)

let's just get so psyched
The result is at once unpredictable and viciously tight. "Pumping Blood" opens with a drone that breaks into a crunching march, goes into speed-metal gear and breaks into free-fall sections – all over seven minutes, cut live in one take. Another track, "Mistress Dread," features Reed singing across a relentless staccato riff played at manic velocity.

tylerw, Friday, 19 August 2011 19:02 (fourteen years ago)

lol @ "mistress dread"

god this is gonna be so amazing

Jung Danjah (admrl), Friday, 19 August 2011 19:04 (fourteen years ago)

a friend of mine sold a piano to Lars Ulrich, Lars kept telling him he wanted him to "knock it out of the park on this one" which just meant Lars wanted to buy the piano at even less than the store paid for it. Which happened, and Lars was still pissed.

Jung Danjah (admrl), Friday, 19 August 2011 19:05 (fourteen years ago)

dude, what's a lou reed and metallica got to do to get the markers emoticon?

it's funny that a dude known for some of the more junky lo-fi recordings of the rock era is such a gear head.

tylerw, Friday, 19 August 2011 20:30 (fourteen years ago)
