the micro-level insight into his process you get from twitter is really interesting. like it seems like the genealogy of 1977 is him deciding to make a record called 1977, then designing a cover, then writing some of the songs, getting around to writing the song about his mom that he thought it'd be good to write, etc, the whole thing probably running up to the time of release. it's so weird! but it works for him.

am i wrong to say those drums are influenced by "pon de floor"/"ass on the floor"/"girls run the world"

i really dig it, although it could lose the fake nylon string guitar imo.

to me it feels like the drums are just going for a cinematic 'marching snare' thing separate from pon de floor's vibe, but who knows

i only listened once but thought the autotune was kinda killing his voice, some

that autotune is terrible. not in an "omg autotune is so terrible" kind of way but in "the autotune on this particular track is terrible"

this new one has nice atmosphere but is aimless like a lot of drake tracks imo

nah i dig this tho -- it's sorta reminiscent of new drake stuff in that there's not really a hook? drake's r&b stuff is so obviously influenced by the-dream tho that they were prob bound to blur together as drake got more popular.

i love drake's aimless, vibing confessionals tho

terius doesn't pull it off as well, but it's also less suited to her persona & strengths as artist -- i'm liking this a lot

i like this, from a writing standpoint

i feel where deej is coming from -- also sounding less like the-dream is sorta the whole point of this project, like it or not

it's a free internet album, i'm not shocked that he's indulging his less commercial impulses -- at least it's not a rock album!

anyway i think this is pretty cool, i might dig a whole LP that was like this!
