Cameron: Well, the big one at the moment is this record I just made with The Congos. My friend Ged [M. Geddes Gengras] and I went down to Jamaica and made an album. We recorded all the music and The Congos wrote and sang the lyrics. It was really an incredible experience. We did a lot of recording down there, and we're working on bringing out 12" singles of a lot of damaged dancehall tracks we tracked with local toasters. Right now that's a pretty full collaborative plate. I'm very interested in collaboration when the situation is right and the proper energy is there.

Anyone else heard the "Night Gallery" collab with Eternal Tapestry yet? Pretty nice, but if it was an old jazz record it would be classified as a mere blowing date. The music tilts more to the E Tap side of things, for those wondering.

Mark Geddes Gengras is also the other guy in Duppy Gun Productions, apart from that I don't know much about him.

Man, this show tonight with Sun Araw and the Congos at Village Underground in Shoreditch was a blast. Such a great, fun vibe - everyone in the place was totally grinning the whole time. They played a bunch of the record (which worked really well live) and then a nice smattering of vintage Congos tunes, which were amazing. So fun.

Anyone seen him live? I have a foreign visitor friend who wants to have some authentic brooklyn experiences and whatnot and I'm debating between taking him to see Sun Araw vs Part Time on Thursday.

I should add that apparently he is stoned a lot.

Saw him and his band back The Congos at LPR a while back. They were quite good but honestly, I have no idea what this show will be like. I'm thinking though that it might be right up a stoner's alley.

Definitely take the stoner to that, and hope he plays lots off On Patrol.

what are folks' thoughts on the most recent one, belomancie? first listen it seemed a little less organic than the previous ones but i haven't spent a whole lot of time with it

I've never been into any sun araw recorded shit for some reason. I do like gengras' and alex grey's recordings though

I bought it (one of the relatively few CDs I bought in 2014) but have still never listened to it. So yeah, dunno.

Heavy Deeds, On Duty/Boat Trip and On Patrol seem now like early foundations of Sun Araw’s sound, and Icon Give Thank a grounded collaboration with The Congos.

Traveling further on his own, Ancient Romans, Belomancie, and Rock Sutra were very trippy and deconstructed, and listening back on them they all sound fantastic to me

those first three you mentioned + “ancient romans” are the ones i keep coming back to. wish they’d reissue “on patrol”, vinyl goes for silly money now
