I would hereby like to lay claim to a Who songs poll. And I even have a title: "Hope I die before I get POLLED."

So this would be in...about a year?

When I get to Neil, I'm taking a solemn oath here and now not to call it "Heart of Polled." (The Who title really works, though.)

clemenza, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 17:28 (fourteen years ago)

Not quite a year, I'd say. xp

Will somebody step in to do the Stevie Wonder poll at its current position?

L.P. Hovercraft (WmC), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 17:28 (fourteen years ago)

"Hope I die before I get POLLED."

*slow clap*

Does that mean mine'll have to be Common PeoPOLL?

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 18:26 (fourteen years ago)

also New Order.

I would love to see a New Order + Joy Division + side projects all covered in a single poll (i.e. NO + JD + The Other Two + Electronic + Revenge + Monaco + etc). I'm worried that my spreadsheet skills aren't up to snuff or else I'd volunteer to conduct the poll ...

NoTimeBeforeTime, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 20:39 (fourteen years ago)

was thinking an XTC one would be good, but maybe not enough voters to warrant it?

no one cares about P-Funk, obviously

Anyone else here already mentally dreaming up the cleverest pun on the word "POLL" for each band on the list?

("Hope I Die Before I Get Polled" is awesome BTW !!)

I'd vote in an XTC poll!

Census Polling Over Time!

(I win!)

Mark G, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 08:10 (fourteen years ago)

are we not doing a Steely Dan poll then?

everyone knows all the tracks, sure, but it would be interesting to see how they placed

merked, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 09:28 (fourteen years ago)

People are going to volunteer to do polls now based entirely on the quality of the title pun. I suddenly want to start polling Kennedy assassination theories ("Behind the Grassy Poll") and Hemingway novels ("For Whom the Bell Polls"), even though I think I've only read one of them.

clemenza, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 11:56 (fourteen years ago)

You could always start a Metallica poll with that last one, though "Master of Polling", "Le Poll Messiah" and "(Anesthesia) Polling Teeth" would also be acceptable.

I too would vote in an XTC poll. Might I suggest: "Train Running Low On Soul Poll"?

(multiple xposts)

I figure the advantages to an XTC poll are that the catalog is REALLY broad and deep plus we could finally settle which is better, early punk XTC or late period pastoral XTC

I'd be up for doing a Kraftwerk one if there was enough interest, but it'd have to be tacked on to the end of the list far off into next year.

Ah, stick me down for Chemical Brothers at some point in the distant future.

My heart goes out to the people of platitudes (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 17 August 2011 21:51 (fourteen years ago)

Do Kraftwerk and Chemical Bros. have large enough discographies?

(the list in progress)

L.P. Hovercraft (WmC), Wednesday, 17 August 2011 22:03 (fourteen years ago)

if there are enough tracks for a Led Zeppelin poll, there are enough tracks for a Chemical Brothers poll

DALEKS OF GOD (DJP), Wednesday, 17 August 2011 22:04 (fourteen years ago)

I haven't totalled them up, but I'd guess Kraftwerk has about an equal number of songs to Led Zep, particularly if you include the three pre-fame albums (which I certainly intend to do). But, yeah, if there isn't enough interest I won't do one. I just thought they were an ILM beloved band that could produce some interesting results.

I initially thought of three bands I'd like to run polls for, but Neil Young and Guided by VOices were already taken. The third was Smashing Pumpkins, but a) I'm not sure that there would be enough voters and b) it would quickly be overrun with shit-talking haters.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 22:11 (fourteen years ago)

i would vote in a kraftwerk poll

plax (ico), Wednesday, 17 August 2011 22:12 (fourteen years ago)

Monstrous TumTum (Lamp), Wednesday, 17 August 2011 22:19 (fourteen years ago)

Kanye's verse was edited out of the version played on Boston pop stations, I have no doubt this was true in other markets as well

(i did not actually think you keep a notepad open of ilx posts btw it was just a 'hilaaarious' vision i had after that post and had no idea you would be so sensitive about it esp considering it was mostly an excuse to self-zing myself? xp)

Monstrous TumTum (Lamp), Wednesday, 17 August 2011 22:33 (fourteen years ago)

i keep an actual notepad of ilx quotes and when i finally see my chance to strike with the zing i get all steelyeyed and cross out your posts with one strong red line

Alright, since no one else stepped up, I'll pull back in for Stevie.

jvc, I went ahead and gave you a number; you can trade up or down as needed.

No MBV yet, WYSIWYG.

Sometime in the future: King Crimson - WmC

L.P. Hovercraft (WmC), Friday, 19 August 2011 17:53 (fourteen years ago)

The numbering on that list is bothering me slightly. We had Blur, Pavement and Manic Street Preachers polls before PSBs, MC Tunes is still rolling out, and then REM got some in days of yore. Where's their recognition?

Ismael Klata, Friday, 19 August 2011 17:58 (fourteen years ago)

How about this:

(the list in progress)

Hall of Fame: Blur, Pavement, Manic Street Preachers, REM, Pet Shop Boys, Prince, U2

What is MC Tunes and what thread is it rolling out in?

Renumbering as we go is a bit of a pain in the ass, but it also give a better idea of when a poll is coming up.

L.P. Hovercraft (WmC), Friday, 19 August 2011 20:44 (fourteen years ago)

Maybe leave it as it was, I'm feeling like a dick already.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 19 August 2011 20:47 (fourteen years ago)

Has there ever been a covers poll?

john. a resident of chicago., Saturday, 20 August 2011 01:42 (fourteen years ago)

like...a poll of album covers? or every cover song ever?

some dude, Saturday, 20 August 2011 02:28 (fourteen years ago)

cover songs!

john. a resident of chicago., Saturday, 20 August 2011 02:52 (fourteen years ago)

like, every cover song ever? that seems maybe TOO broad

some dude, Saturday, 20 August 2011 02:54 (fourteen years ago)

80% of all recorded music...go!

some dude, Saturday, 20 August 2011 02:54 (fourteen years ago)

impossibly broad category -- trying to figure out the best cover of 'Take the A Train' alone would break the internet

L.P. Hovercraft (WmC), Saturday, 20 August 2011 03:17 (fourteen years ago)

best version I should say
