slept on so much dfa over the last few months, just really beginning to catch up on the big hitters. still haven't heard the holy ghost album despite how much i was anticipating it. couldn't believe it when i saw it in record shops before i even knew it was released.

The Rewards/Solange collab-o_O is excellent despite being hipster-bait. I've already had to endure a conversation about how much braver and more interesting a singer Solange is than her singer.
BUT it is still fantastic.
― Tim F, Sunday, 14 August 2011 13:29 (fourteen years ago)
than her sister obv.
Especially when it cuts to that stabbing house bassline, the strummy guitar chords and pizzicato strings.
― Tim F, Sunday, 14 August 2011 13:32 (fourteen years ago)
i like how she's dealt w/ her sister's shadow

Wow, "Gabriel" is really good
― Number None, Monday, 15 August 2011 20:00 (fourteen years ago)
i know right? i think some ppl wouldnt bother listening to it since its a hot chip side project
― just sayin, Monday, 15 August 2011 20:01 (fourteen years ago)
Yeah, i think i would have dismissed it if it wasn't for the recommendations in this thread (and the DFA association probably). I actually like Hot Chip at times, but i listened to Goddard's solo album when it came out and i remember finding it actively irritating and pretty much everything that Alexis Taylor has done outside the group has been mediocre.
― Number None, Monday, 15 August 2011 20:13 (fourteen years ago)
you're probably right, sic, but i never think of hot chip as dfa since they aren't and never were in the uk, i don't think.
missed this! no they weren't, but Gabriel is in the exact same position of DFA licensing it for foreign because they like it - it's on Goddard's own label Greco-Roman in the UK

I'm going to the dfa party at XOYO with James Murphy DJing tonight, but two of our friends can't go, so have two spare tickets. Anyone want one? They were £10 each plus booking, so would do 'em for £10 or nearest offer. ILXmail me if you're interested.
Also, I really love that Pylon remix.
― Citizen Smith (Jamie T Smith), Friday, 2 September 2011 14:33 (fourteen years ago)
i went to that night at xoyo, it was good. jam factory played some cool stuff too incl an amazing low-bpm vocal track just before jm came on. dying to id that one.
― jabba hands, Tuesday, 6 September 2011 18:25 (fourteen years ago)
holy shit, apparently Cut Copy remixed Happy House?!??!?!? just got a promo mailer saying that it'd be on the Juan Maclean EP (probably worthy of several exclamation marks itself imo) in Nov. WANT.
― punk rock hyrax (jamescobo), Wednesday, 14 September 2011 19:49 (fourteen years ago)
dfa feels like has been flawless for a long time. i really like that grateful exit release, goofy and all as it is.

guess so - thanks for pointing that out! can't believe it's been out there for 2 years and I'm just now hearing about it.
― punk rock hyrax (jamescobo), Wednesday, 14 September 2011 20:06 (fourteen years ago)
that is perhaps the least necessary of all the unnecessary Happy House remixes I have heard
― robocop last year was a 'shop (sic), Wednesday, 14 September 2011 23:57 (fourteen years ago)
so for the 10th anniversary london got a james murphy dj set (which was great) and nothing else. but barcelona gets this sickness: http://www.salarazzmatazz.com/imagenes/artistas/th_cartelDFA554x333.jpg
― jabba hands, Tuesday, 25 October 2011 16:33 (fourteen years ago)
I didn't realize Shit Robot played live sets. Wish I woulda seen Crystal Ark in one of their NY shows. I think there's been two.
― dmr, Tuesday, 25 October 2011 16:53 (fourteen years ago)
What would DFA be without Nancy Whang? Seriously.
― MikoMcha, Tuesday, 25 October 2011 19:15 (fourteen years ago)

― MikoMcha, Tuesday, 25 October 2011 20:09 (fourteen years ago)
But really, she should have her own records, more props, something.
― MikoMcha, Tuesday, 25 October 2011 20:11 (fourteen years ago)
She certainly gets props round these parts
― Number None, Tuesday, 25 October 2011 20:46 (fourteen years ago)
but barcelona gets this sickness:
Future Music (at Randwick!) in March is having a DFA stage with James & Pat DJing, The Juan Maclean, Holy Ghost!, The Rapture and Hercules & Love Affair, and it seems Azari & III and Horse Meat Disco will be honorary DFAs for the day.
God damn those fascist misogynists for continuing to block Nancy from recording a solo album though http://www.fingerflipinc.com/forum/Smileys/default/Smiley_Shake_Fist_by_Mirz123.gif

― ffs sorrow (electricsound), Tuesday, 25 October 2011 23:38 (fourteen years ago)

― the men who glare at stoats (sic), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 00:23 (fourteen years ago)
if there's a sideshow with HG! supporting Juan I'm down too. (also am wondering if lineup hints that Pat is HG!'s new drummer and/or Nancy is joining)
― the men who glare at stoats (sic), Wednesday, 26 October 2011 00:24 (fourteen years ago)

pat's lost a hell of a lot of weight, no?
― jed_, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 01:57 (fourteen years ago)
having seen pat for a few years now both onstage in jogging shorts and out and about s. williamsburg, i'd say no.
― beta blog, Wednesday, 26 October 2011 18:01 (fourteen years ago)
watching video of HG! live in Berlin from two days ago - new lineup is six dudes, no mahono
drummer is no Pat, or Jerry, or Nick tho

i'm pretty into that factory floor thing (is it hipster house? more in the spirit of older dfa singles? etc etc)
portlanders take note: whang is coming to town ... just a dj set but it's still p exciting
